Cambridge S Minor at Deeping St James, Lincs

Ойын-сауық

Excerpt from a quarter peal of Cambridge on this magnificent middle-weight 6. The two tenors, cast by Tobias Norris and dating from 1623-4, predate the present tower and spire (which was rebuilt in 1717, when the original 5 bells were rehung.) The Taylor frame dates from 1900 and the present 2nd and 3rd were recast at the same time. In 1923, the present 4th was recast and the treble added by Taylor's to make a superb sounding 6 which go well (having been put on ball bearings in 1976) and were a pleasure to visit.
Tenor 16-3-22 in Eflat

Also on my bucket list to go back to at some point, my memory is the camera did them a lot of favours (they're just a little too quiet inside) but you can tell there's something special upstairs 🙂

Ooh these are nice... I love heavy sixes. Unusual to have that much reverberation in the tower but I guess that's just the nature of the tower! I'm guessing if the belfry is right at the top and open to the cone of the spire, then I guess that plays a huge part into the sound bouncing around everywhere.

Shame the Bells of Lincolnshire did not include these bells to their CD, I found some audio of these bells and added it to the list of my ripped tracks. Since I been ringing these since a child on/off during my stays. I would go back and ring these bells. These bells are too nice to go unnoticed. Another church I do remember visiting in the area is Gedney but I haven't rung the bells there, I don't know if you rung them? I been to this church about 30 years ago and recently had some memories of it. They are a 6 bell tower.

This happened to us, not here but close by. Came to Rutland for one night in our caravan - that was 2 years ago and we have been here permanently ever since - even got rid of our rented house and living in our caravan not far from Stamford.

@@macstyle2012 I used to stay for weekends in the Deepings Caravan site that is how I rung these bells from a young age.
