This video is based on my trip to Shergarh Fort Dholpur(शेरगढ़ किला धौलपुर), which lies in ruined state in Dholpur, Rajasthan. I have discussed about the Shergarh Fort history in Hindi(शेरगढ़ किले का इतिहास) and also told about the Shergarh Fort architecture and mysterious facts.
I would like to tell that this fort is now in ruins and it is situated to the south of the Dholpur, next to the Chambal River. As per historians, this fort was known to be first built by King Maldev in the year 1532. Sher Shah attacked this fort and captured it. After that it was rechristened after Sher Shah Sur who restored this fort in the year 1540 AD in order to protect the Afghan kingdom from the onslaughts the Mewar rulers in mid 16th century on the western frontier. It also served as a strong and strategically situated defense measure.
Shergarh Fort was known to be in use until the starting of 20th century. The fort is filled with enchanting images, beautifully carved sculptures of Hindu gods as well as delicate Jain motifs. Shergarh Fort has a total of four gates but eastern gate is used most frequently. It also houses a Hanuman Temple, a few palaces, courtyards, as well as a tomb and a few other structures in ruined state. The Shergarh Fort in Dholpur is known to be one of historically and archaeologically important forts in the Rajasthan state. It’s upkeep is said to be in the hands of the government.
