    There seems to be some confusion here, a 1973 RS would still have had the round upper front lights and split bumper with the nose extension. The Z/28 in this video did not have the RS package from factory, someone has added on the split bumper. You can check this all yourself with five minutes of Googling. Factory brochures will show this and there are some low original miles Survivor RS/Z-28 1973 cars that have the same configuration as the orange one in this video.

    You are correct, and saved me from having to make the same comment. I had a '73 RS, and it looked just like the earlier models. What is portrayed in this video is another poorly done RS Z/28 clone.

    Wrong. 73 is same as 70-72. You got a modified 73. Should have full bumper….

    @@HeavyMetalTom Was that a reply to me? Because you said basically the same thing I did. :) And that is correct, the turn signals under the bumper always had full bumper, one reason was to fit the license plate in front and center otherwise it covered the passenger signal.

    before you do a video on RS camaro you should know whats true......your "73 RS" is not a true rally sport

    I like Steve's content and he normally has everything correct, but he got it wrong about the '73 Camaro in this one. All 1970 1/2 through 1973 RS Camaro's had the split bumper, round turn signal lamps inboard of the headlights and enduro/urethane nose in front of the grill. Others have noted it, but the '73 is a normal Camaro that has the long bumper replaced with the split bumpers from an RS - it still has the turn signal lamps below the bumpers and no enduro/urethane nose - so not an RS. Those commenting on liking a particular year like 71 or 72 I guess don't realize that 70 1/2 through 73 are nearly identical except for very small differences, so if you like 1 yr you probably like them all...(70-73 that is).

    They were 1970 models- there was no such thing as a "1970 1/2" Camaro.

    @@JClark-34695 True they are 1970 models, they are just often referred to as 1970 1/2 because they came out aprox 6 months late. Kind of like 1964 1/2 Mustangs which I believe were really all 1965 models, but came out early in April rather than August

    All R/S Camaros from 70 to 73 looked like the orange car. The burgundy car is a standard non R/S front that someone but bumperetts on. 1973 standard front bumpers also had an additional thick steel insert inside to meet the new impact standards.

    I may be going out on a limb here but my 73 RS Z28 had the parking lamps up by the headlight... And if you look at a 73 brochure it shows the RS had the parking lamp up by the headlight as well. To me people with the solid front bumper would put the short bumpers on it to try and make it look like an RS. I'm sure if you looked at the build sheet for that red one you'd find it's not an RS.

    Jake you're right. The car on the right is a non RS with the RS split bumpers. All RS cars from 70 thru 73 had the round turn signals

    You are 100% correct. The burgundy car is a standard front with the full width bumper removed and R/S bumperetts installed.

    I have a 73 split bumper and I love Steve and I know he's very knowledgeable so I was doubting the validity of my own car! As far as I know all split bumpers were the same 70 to 73 .

    I believe that even in 1973 the RS option included the circular inboard turn signals. If a gen 2 has a split bumper, it has to have the circular turn signals, and lots of guys add the split bumper to non RS Camaro's for the look, but it definitely not "correct".

    Correct. 73 RS had a bigger egg crate (squares) and more reinforcement but certainly had the round signal lights and the urethane nose. This video is wrong.

    I agree. All the published literature I've seen on 70-73 Camaro's has the RS using the higher mounted round signal lights. I've run to a few people claiming their square signal "RS" cars came from the factory like that. However, there's no RS code on the body tag. I theorize that the dealers probably modified a number of these to be an RS. Wasn't totally unheard of for a dealer to add or change options.

    You are wrong about the 73, the one you show has the standard front end that someone just put split bumpers on. The 73 RS still had the rubber front grill surround and upper round turn signal lamps. Just look at a 73 Camaro Brochure and you will see.

    The RS front end was unchanged from 70.5-73. That feller cganged that to a split bumper, but not an RS. I feel weird correcting you lol. Great content, and, as always, thanks for takin us along...

    RS was the same from 70-73 not 70-72. I own a 70 Z22 and a 73 Z22. The only difference was RS Rally Sport versus a non RS Rally Sport. The. RS had the slit bumper due to the urethane nose that stuck out too far for the straight front bumper of the non Rally Sport bumper to fit. Creating the bumperttes known as the split. The RS has a different grill, front header panel, lower valance, fog lights, bracing, and grill divider. This was the same from 70-73. Not 70-72 and then changing in 73 like you said. I know more details but refrain from going on and on. I was very surprised that you said something wrong. I know you know your stuff. Just not the differences of a second-generation Camaro apparently. Love ya Steve. Hope you're not upset with my correction. The non Rally Sport you refer to as 73 only was actually just a 70-73 non RS model. They along with the RS both were around since 70. That 73 in your video is in NO WAY a Rally Sport. Not unless the front clip was changed out for a non RS. You should redo this entire video and then make me your consultant lol.

    @Robert C for sure. You can tell he is just sending videos out as fast as possible to drive up his revenue. It's just crazy that he could be so off. But he could have just been in a hurry idk. I have said things like 383 small blocks referring to a mopar. I knew it was a big block, but in the moment, I said it wrong, and my buddy felt he had to teach me. I was just standing there listening to him explain what I already knew. I deserved it, so I listened, lol.

    Love the videos Steve, but as many have noted the 73 RS cars had round parking lights too And while you are correct that SS (RPO Z27) and Z28 badges superseded the Rallysport emblems on the fenders, there was no SS grill emblem on an RS-optioned Super Sport. RS 2nd gen cars also have an extra chrome ring in the taillights so you can ID them from the back as well.

    The circular headlamps being in that location always made those earlier models look better to my eye... and I love how the 4th gen f-bodies have the pointed nose & recessed grill like these older models! So many similar lines. Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us, Steve!

    Back in the late '80's I had two '71 RS-350 two barrel automatics in Garnett Red, black standard interior, and with black vinyl tops. The only difference was that one of them was a dealer installed vinyl top and the other was factory. It was interesting seeing them both parked in my driveway, but the strangest thing was that both had been painted white after removing the vinyl tops. I was lucky to have them, but sadly they were both sold like all the other dumb things I did in the past.

    Steve that 73 did not leave the factory with that bumper. It would have had the full length bumper. Someone has added it. Very common modification by an owner. The 73 is NOT an RS. Love your shows.

    The second generation camaro especially the 70 to 72 was my favorite back in the day on the week ends there was one that cam from a few cities away to find me and want to race I had a 66 chevelle running 12.0s and every week end he would go home a looser but his 72 z28 was a beautiful car I loved that car. Awesome content Steve keep up the great work 👍

    I remember back in the early 70's having a neighbor with a white Camaro with the blue stripes, I'm thinking it was a Z car cuz i believe it had the open grill and twin bumperettes,i think it had some kind of hood treatment too.but that was my first memories of a muscle car that got me into them. Along with the rat fink art work on T shirts and in magazines and I think there were stickers too if I'm not mistaken. A few years before the Camaro,my landlord at another house had a 63 or 4 red Impala that he bought new and garaged it daily,not sure if it was an SS,but he kept this car meticulously clean and well loved! This was in the early 70's, and although I loved the car for its sheer beauty,cuz man,he had her gleaming! I loved going for rides in her! But i didn't see it as a muscle car like the Z was,ya know? The 70's restyle of the Camaros grill really reminds me of the Vega grill too! I also remember someone having a SS grill badge with a RS underneath it mirroring the SS,it was pretty funky for sure!

    I think it used to be pretty common for guys to stick RS noses on standard Camaro’s, I’m sure it led to a lot of confusion years later, when the cars had changed hands a few times.

    I own a 1971 RS/SS, with build sheet. Van Nuys , CA. built car. Never had an SS emblem in the grill center. And the grill face was silver painted to match the chrome.

    Back in the 70's dad had a 71 RS camaro with a 307 it was sungold yellow with a black interior, it had hub caps and was a low optioned car. The grille was similar but there was no badge on the grille and the leading edge of the grille was polished.

    I had a 1975 LT Camaro that I ordered new from the factory equipped as close to what a Z28 would have been if they hadn't dropped the Z28 option in 1975. 350 (145 HP net ) four speed, Posi traction, quick ratio power steering and handling package. I got the LT option because it came with the front & rear spoilers and upgraded interior. Also 1975 was the last year for the 150 MPH speedometer because starting in 1976 all cars sold in the US had government mandated 80 MPH ones.

    I'm not sure about that year being mandated. The Pontiac Firebird/Trans am could still be had with 100 MPH speedometers in 77-79. I think 1980 was ironically when they only went to 80MPH

    All RS cars had round parking lights beside the headlights. That burgundy car is a non RS car that somebody installed the better looking bumperetts on.

    In 1971 in Fort Dodge, IA there was a beautiful example of this generation of Camaro. Cruising there was called "Shagging the Drag." That car had beautiful custom paint. White base with orange or blue fish scales on the hood. I'm not sure if it was two different cars or the same car with changes to the paint job. It really caught my 8-9 year old imagination. We moved away at the end of '71, and I never saw the car again. I'd love to see pictures of it.

    My mom had a metalic green '70 Camaro with a white interior, which she said my dad and her bought new off the showroom floor. She wasn't happy when my dad traded it in for a new Chevy four-wheel drive pick-up (which also happened to be metalic green) in 1974. I don't know if anything else about the Camaro and its options, just that my mom was very sad to see it go.

    my brother had a 70 camaro that had the park lights below the bumper. I always preferred that look instead of the round park lights next to the headlights.

    All 70-thru 73 RS Camaro's are the same. GM did not make a split bumper with the signal lights under the bumper ever.

    Steve, please don't take this as being critical or me being a know-it-all, but I think maybe you should look into this one a little further. The 1973 model you showed is actually a regular, non-RS Camaro that has had its full-width bumper replaced with RS bumperettes. This is a common customization technique on these cars, and sometimes the guy doing the job will just lop the ends off of the full-width bumper to leave the grille exposed. Also, the grille surround was actually a part of the bumper system. I don't think the car would have passed the new-for-1973 5 mph impact standards without bumper protection for the grille. I thought this might help in your research: I got the first model car I ever built for Christmas, 1972. It was the MPC 1973 Camaro Z/28, based on a Rally Sport optioned body. It had the round turn signals between the headlights and the grille, the grille surround, and the small bumperettes. I know that model manufacturers have cut some corners occasionally, but I don't think GM would have signed off on something like that. Look through your huge model stash and see if you have one of those kits. On the subject of models, when are you going to be making more model car videos? I really enjoy them. Your enthusiasm for the hobby shows, and I would think that those videos have brought some people back into the hobby. You didn't need to bring me back, 'cause I never left it!

    I found a ‘73 Camaro brochure and it TOUTS the RS package showing split bumpers, “extended” frame around the grill AND “round” turn signal lights. Maybe the strike caused this anomaly???

    @@Barry_Davis The strike messed up the final production numbers but I do not know of any changes to the front with the exception of the added bumper/grille strength requirements that the government mandated. They were internal only. My 73 has those.

    Steve, I haven't watched the video yet but people have already explained what I noticed in seconds. The car on the right is not an original split bumper. I've never liked that look, and it's the first thing I look for when I see split bumpers.

    Split bumper is my preferred bumper of choice. Thanks for schooling me on Z28 and the Z22? Never heard of the Z22 although that code might have been used on Cavalier 2 drs for some option in around 2008 ish? (Maybe newer) I never heard the story of the strike and crushing of those bodies. I am a MPOPAR guy but would not have wanted that done back then to those cars.

    And another thing, that Camaro on the right has a front end for the full perimeter bumper. Those bumperettes are for RS only.

    My Grandpa owns a RS SS 69 Camaro its hugger orange and is in some very good condition. But after he past now my grandma owns it while it sits under a cover in the backyard with no garage. Kinda sad but im hoping i might get it one day.

    I had a 78 with a straight 6. Handled awesome. It could definitely lose a V8 in the corners just due to better steering

    IDK Steve, looks like the full bumper was swapped for the RS bumpers on that 73. That's very common.

    As a kid i had a 1973 z28 , i built up from a shell to street beast drag car big block, turbo 400..

    I had a '73 trans am, And I had heard a story like this once before that that's one of the factors that limited the production numbers for the '73 trans am. P.S. mine also had the unitized ignition.

    The way the header panels mount are different and the fenders are different between the 70/71 to the 72's

    I'm going to rephrase my previous comment. On a 70 RS Z28 how uncommon was it to order a automatic transmission without the console option? I have seen plenty of these cars that were automatics but all had a console I have seen four speeds without a console. So is a 70 RS Z28 ordered that way with the automatic on the column make it an oddball ? Do you know Steve? Thanks.

    I never was much of a Camaro affectionado, but I always thought the 71-73s were the most appealing of the marque. I’d take one if I stumbled on a great deal even if it was a six cylinder. 3-speed base model ( with air conditioning, of course).

    My mom had a Canary Yellow '72 RS 350 4 speed Camaro with black interior when I was born that she reluctantly gave back to the dealership a few months later because she couldn't work & dad couldn't afford rent & 2 car payments. Every year after wishing me happy birthday she would start....ya know, I used to have a yellow Camaro when you were born.....! When is was little I actually apologized once for her having to give it up! Needless to to say she loved the car.
