That was so enlightening and completely in line what I have been reading in John 14-16 and in Wilbourne Rankin's book on Union with Christ. Loved his metaphor on helping his Dad to fix the car.

Sanctification is not us trying to be like Christ but Christ living in us, and it is not us mustering up some will power in us to live holy lives, but that we have the mind of Christ and the faith of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16, Philippians 2:5 & Galatians 2:20). And so, we are sanctified by the very righteousness of Christ, but this alien righteousness is not simply imputed or creditted to us legally, but actually. Because Christ lives in us in His Spirit, we actually possess the mind and the faith of Him who lived a sinless life and died faithfully on the cross. And so, the righteousness of Christ is creditted to us in a very real and tangible sense. And in a very real sense, Justification and Sanctification are necessary byproduts of each other, just as being dead and not breathing are byproduts of each other. Because if we are sanctified, i.e. if we are actually given the mind and faith of Christ because he actually lives in us, then we are automatically made right with God, because we are holy and righteous in an actual sense. On the other hand, if we are justified, i.e. if Christ has united himself with us by dying with sinners, then we are also alive with hin because he did not just die, he also rose from the dead and therefore he who died with us in his flesh is now living in us in his spirit. And the bottom line is this : Whoever has the Spirit of Christ, has the mind, faith and righteousness of Christ in a real and actual sense. Such a person is united to God, is right with God, is righteous and is a son of God.
