Box Breathing is a scientifically proven way to calm down and activate the so-called parasympathetic nervous system, our rest and recovery mode.
Often referred to as 'square breathing' or 'tactical breathing,' Box Breathing is a rhythmic pattern that anchors your mind to your breath. Picture a box, with each side representing a motion - inhale, hold, exhale, hold - each lasting for four, unhurried seconds. The magic of this technique, like other forms of cadence breathing, lies in its repetition. Our brains are wired to recognize patterns, and when we provide a clear, consistent pattern, our brains take note. It's like declaring, 'I'm taking control.' And this simple act of assertion calms the central nervous system almost instantly.
A little bit about myself: I'm Kitaro, a Movement, Kung Fu, and breathwork practitioner and teacher. I don't like fitness. Instead, I like to combine Movement with philosophical thinking - if that makes sense. I try to publish weekly videos. So, if you like my vibe, please subscribe to this channel.

Kit, shout out from the other side of the world. I'm a business owner, my wife too, with two kids under 2 y/o old, and both working from home. Please continue to summarize Wim (Hof), Andrew (Hubermann) and Andy (Galpin) as far as possible. Makes it easier to digest the bite sized info in maintaining our lifestyle, in a sustainable way. Thanks for your guidance and effort in your examples and videos.

Hey! Great explanation today. In depth. Box breathing was taught to me as a way to bring myself out of full on panic mode, like when windows of tolerance are completely narrowed to the point of non functionality. A great way to give ourselves a chance to realign and focus when stressors are at a peak. Thank you!

Hi, I need to ask a question. I've read that while the Wim hof breathing exercises you stop getting oxygen into your brain, and so that It can be very harmful for the proper function of It, anything you know about this? Thanks a lot

Hey Kitaro. Firstly, thanks a lot for all these amazing videos you're providing us with. Secondly, i have this question - I am trying to adapt a particular breathing pattern for almost all the time of the day. Like in Demon slayer, the Hashiras had Total concentration breathing constant. Which breathing pattern is the best for me to adapt and practice while I do other works like walking or sitting in class or doing household? (I can easily maintain my breathing well while i am not doing cognitive works)

Hey Kitaro! Last time I did the Wim Hof Breathing I felt amazing as usally the first three rounds. But then, at the beginning of the fouth round I was extremely overwhelmed with the fellings in my head and how I started to perceive my body. I felt dizzy, my hands and feet numb and I felt like there was a stinging in the heart region. All of that made me anxious and I felt that I would be about to colapse, espiacally when I was gettiing up from the chair and started walking. These bad feelings lastet for hours, even when I went to sleep at night it was still there, however weakened. Do you have experience with this kind of reactions? Usually I love the breathing exercices but after this experience I will stay from them (for now). PS: Thanks for your videos, they are great!

Box breathing is a lot tamer than Wim Hof breathing. It may or may not help get you out of that state, but I don't believe it would worsen the condition. Likely it would help.

Thank you for this powerful video on box breathing, which I have been practicing for many years. There are many teachers of this technique who point out that the out breath should be longer than 4 beats, more like 6 to 8 beats (whatever is natural for each person). It is my understanding that this is the way that Navy Seals are trained to do it.
