It’s pretty common globally across the world to call teacher by surnames and with something like mr/mrs/etc. it’s a sign of respect and at this moment is still expected in countries like US, England and Australia, etc but there’s a lot of debate whether of how that power dynamics should be challenged I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these teachers felt like the kids were testing their authority

Mr and Mrs aren't special titles someone earns by becoming a teacher, it can literally be used to refer to ANYONE with a last name. Now, doctors? They demand respect and superiority as if they're the fucking king. If somebody pulled out their phone and recorded me, I would probably actually think it's funny. Now, not everyone has to think like me. It's ok if you do not like being filmed or do not want to be filmed at that time. But it's how you respond to the situation that defines your character. If you object to being filmed, express it kindly. You shouldn't be such a stern asshole that you try and diminish someone for having a little fun. Not everything should be strictly business. You just said, and I quote, "if dont feel like being randomly filmed, ill use my easiest way out of it without being an asshole. Whats wrong with that?" Nothing is wrong with that. Clearly you are assuming I have taken a stance that I simply did not. Finding the easiest way out of it without being an asshole is exactly the thing to do if you do not want to partake in being filmed. That, would not make you a piece of shit. Because someone is feeling uncomfortable at 1) being filmed, 2) being called by their first name by a student in a country where you just don't do that, plus every other factor that would contribute to their reaction (how their day has been so far or something), that means they're a bad teacher? I don't think so.

Bill Clinton I don't know what part of the country you are from but I call a few of my teachers by their first name. It can help make a more open and casual environment.

Bingalo I definitely agree that you can tell a lot about a person from how they respond to this. Haha my only opinion is that if they request to be called by their last name (as most do) then it's most appropriate to do as they wish. Otherwise as long as the teacher is okay with it, I don't see any issues with it.
