Callaway Chrome Soft vs. Supersoft (Surprisingly similar at very different prices)

Спорт

The Callaway Chrome Soft and Supersoft are at the opposite ends of the price range for Callaway, but they might be more similar in performance than you might think. In this video, I'll take a look at both and try to help you decide which is right for your game.

    That was my favorite thing about the graphics on that ball, being able to see the spin on short shots. I think that would be eye opening for beginners and high handicappers to practice short game shots with a ball like that.

    I think for people around 90 mph swing speed, the Supersoft is great. When I play the Supersoft, I lose nearly 40 yards off my driver at 115-118 mph stock driver speed. I personally play the Chromesoft X LS because it gets me the most ball speed off driver, but would gladly play the normal Chromesoft if I find one. I personally like a bit firmer feeling golf ball, so it's just personal preference at that point. Nice video! Good info.

    You do know the more a ball compresses the further it goes right?

  • @SGIABC

    @SGIABC

    Жыл бұрын

    @@jumbroni6014 Over compression is a real thing. So what you said isn't all together true. The more you compress a ball, the more surface area of the ball comes into contact with the driver face. Having an excessive amount of compression causes pretty significant dips in ball speed due to surface tensions between the face of the driver and the ball. Furthermore, in extreme cases, the front tangent of the ball can 'clap' the rear tangent and soak up speeds even more.

  • @jumbroni6014

    @@SGIABC I'm not convinced of this. What I think happens is the ball compresses so much that your swing path becomes more of an issue affecting flight. That's why when you smash a super soft ball it often goes left or right and you aren't sure why that happens. I myself have rarely seen a super soft ball nor get the distance required.

    Same here. Chrome soft is double the price and I cannot justify it. I play well with both of them with no real appreciable difference. There was a time when the Super Softs main issue was that it would not hold green well at all. At that time Chrome soft had a bigger gap in its favor. With the recent improvements to Super Soft that has diminished that gap. Although priced in the lower sector of golf balls Super soft is the premium ball of the lower priced area. I wouldn't use anything else.

    It was 53 on the course today so for the heck of it I tried the super soft. I don’t care what launch monitors say, at my swing speed (I’m almost 65 and swing about 96 w my driver) that ball goes a LOT farther. My issue is I could not remotely control the distance w my short irons. I normally hit my 9 iron 135 or a bit farther but twice I hit solid shots that went 150+, and that was in very cool misty weather. To me it feels like it just trampolines off the face. I also think it has a lot more dispersion. I like the way it comes off the putter. If I could control the distance better it would make me at least a club longer.
