I was a ProV1 user for many years but I will be switching to the Tour BX as it gives me ideal distance and I feel confident hitting it. I gave the ProV1x another shot the other day and even holed a birdie but mentally I can't get over the thought I spin it too much with my driver and therefore lose distance. Great video. Looking forward to more in the near future. All the best!

I bought ProV1s last year and shelved them until I improved since I was losing them. I went back and started playing the remaining ones after lessons and tons of practice. The extra yards are nice and I find myself not losing them due to their spin. Outside of those, I play Wilson Pro Staff ZIPs since they are a good ball for the money.

I think the most important factor of choosing a golfball is just personal feel and the feel of the clubface. I just HATE some golfballs and LOVE others, how they feel when i test them with a 7 iron and the putter, for example. It just comes down to personal preference - most of the balls out there perform pretty similar, but they feel incredibly different. I love a very soft and massive feel of the clubface. I game the Srixon AD333, Z-Star and the Taylormade TP5. They do what I want them to do and i really like those three balls a lot ;)

You could have 10 golfers do same test and get 11 different results today, then repeat tommorrow and get different results. Then factor in wind, and air temperature, type of iron used, loft of iron etc but main factor is.. Quality of strike will add or subtract 500rpm. If hit driver high on face vs low on face. It's best not to get too hung up on small spin differences. My experience is golfers have poor wedge technique and thin the shot, then complain the ball doesn't spin all that well.

Great video showing differences in balls for you. In terms of value balls, the Kirkland performance +, has got to be on any list. Three piece with urethane cover for roughly $1 a ball. Been playing it for a couple years. Fantastic wedge spin. My main criticism is that it can be a bit too spinny on long irons and woods with my swing. So, I’ve been considering upgrading to Bridgestone B series, Srixon Z or Pro V. The steep price difference is the main thing holding me back. Is the extra yardage I’m likely to get worth 3-4 times the price? Testing a few rounds with the higher priced balls over the next few weeks to see.

The Titleist AVX is the best ball I have ever used. It's the longest and softest. I say this as a sub-100MPH driver swing guy. I like a soft ball because I rely on my short game for scoring. However, the AVX added 10yds to my drives. Occasionally, I try different balls. I just went through several types of bridgestone. Nowhere near as good for me. The AVX always comes out on top.

Most golf ball tests are about speed, carry, spin, and sometimes spread...all important factors, but I rarely see anyone talking about feel and control off the putter, which is becoming the most important factor in the golf balls I choose. Some of the harder balls that give me a few extra yards off the tee are so much harder to control on the green. For me, if I consistently leave the ball within a foot of the hole, a marginal difference in "spin" and "carry" doesn't mean squat. I've played all these balls, and the only ones I trust on the green are Chrome Soft X, TP5x, and Pro V1 (in that order). Fortunately they all scored well in these MSG's tests as well. Caveat: I am not good at shaping shots. Maybe when I improve my skill in that area, spin will become more important than putting, but I doubt it. It seems the features of a ball that make it good for shaping also seem to give me better control with my putter.

The past few years I have been trying different golf balls and I have settled on using the Titleist TruFeel. The TruFeel has provided me more consistency than any other golf ball I have tried. I love the soft feel on every shot as I feel like I can "compress" the ball versus a harder 3 piece ball. I personally don't like the sound of a "clicky" sounding ball. I consistently carry 250 with driver with between a 95-100mph swing speed and am able to carry around 160 with my 7 iron. I am able to produce enough spin for the ball to hold greens and not hit then run off. Changing to the TruFeel has lowered my average score by 8-10 strokes per round am and consistently shooting in the high 70's to lower 80's!

What you say about the Vice Pro is interesting. I use the ball regularly here in Florida. Two reasons. First is that is does perform for me the way that I expect (I am a 6 handicap Teaching Pro) and second, if I lose one in the water which happens a lot here due to all the ponds and sloping fairways, I don't get upset. However, the scuffing you talk about has never happened unless I hit a wayward shot into a tree or hit a cart path. I have used them for about 10 months. I find the latest ball Vice produced to perform a little bit better than last year's model.

I tried the maxflii tour x recently and it goes high and far. Gained 10+ yards on drives. I had a few 3 woods I thought I didn't hit great as they went high, but distance surprised me and was 250+. It spins well around the greens, but a little less and its firmer off the putter than a prov1. Agree with you that for $50 for 2 dozen its a good deal. If price were no issue I would play a prov1. I'm a 6 handicap with driver swing speed 105. A ball you didn't test that I also like is the snell mtb x. For $32 a doz its a cheaper alternative to top premium balls but still performs like one. I like the kinds of tests Matt because I like to see the numbers. Couple of issues I have is 1) what was the loft of the 6 iron and what was it set at for your driver? That will change the numbers, i.e. your driver may be set at 8 degrees of loft and mine at 12 degrees, your six iron loft may be different than mine changing the spin rate and distances. 2) in order to be more accurate especially with the accuracy aspect of this test, you need to hit more than 5 shots per ball, you need to take miss-hits in to account. I'm not bashing your test at all, love your tips and videos, just putting it out there that people need to test for their clubs, their swing and their price range. Keep up the great work.

And I can assure you that some balls work better with some brands of clubs. Callaway is a good example of that as their balls will always work the best with Callaway clubs, JFYI.

There's just one problem with looking at spin rates of irons..... If you're looking to assess performance on the greens.... Ball spin rates slow down before they hit the green.... The more a ball spins the fast its spin rate slows down because of wind resistance dynamics.... So if ball A spins at 9200 of the club face and ball B spins at 8600 off the club face by the time they hit they green ball As spin rate may have dropped to say 3000, where as ball B may have dropped to say 2800....

Recently I tried the Wilson Staff 50 Elite and I was surprised at how good they actually are. I lost maybe 5 yards of carry, but for sure, they fly straighter and are more forgiving in that respect. In two full rounds, I have never lost a ball left or right, just a couple in hazards that cross the fairway. For sure are now my ball of choice for narrow golf courses where staying in the fairway is a premium.

Would like to see this same evaluation with these same balls but hitting one of each and then repeat the same procedure until you hit five of each with the same clubs so that the last balls you are tying aren’t after you become tired. I hope that makes sense. Love your channel.

The best golf ball is the Bridgestone Tour B RX (for me) or Tour B X. The reason is simple - they go very very straight with driver and all the long woods. When you mishit the ball, it only curves a little with the long clubs - straightest ball I have ever used - and I have used them all - ProV, TP5, Chrome, and all the urethane lower balls (Tour Response, Tout Speed, etc). Tour B RX is a tour level ball with the same consistency and has a quality urethane cover (not crap like some), so you can generate spin to stop it on the greens with short irons. Pros have the skill set to use such a ball with their long woods - but most amateurs hit massive slices and hooks with such a ball (now and then) - they would be better off with a ball that goes straighter. The Bridgestone Tour B RX is the best of both worlds - straight with the woods, but spins and stops with short irons. Putts great too - as good as all Pro level balls except the ProV (that putts awesome). LPGA players use the Tour B for a reason - 90-105 mph swing speeds is normal (I am 96).

Great test. Too bad you didn't add Snell MTBx. That ball finished first in the MyGolfSpy overall testing. I play that ball or the Maxfli Tour GC. I like them both (for the money). My buddy used to be a tour rep for Titleist and he used to give me free boxes of ProV1x. When I didn't have to pay for them, that was definitely the best ball for me. When he retired, I had to buy my own and I saw the actual price. Unless they have a solid gold core, the price was ridiculous. No way is the ball that much better than Snell MTBx and it is $15-$20 more expensive per dozen.

I have used Vice Tour, which has a Surlyn cover and they are $16 per dozen, have play as much as 54 holes with no dings or scuffs. I also hit Oncore Elixir and unless you hit a cart path they are exceptionally durable, played 78 holes with one and it would have been more but I hooked it in the water on that hole. You should test the Oncore Elixir as I prefer it to Pro V1x and it is to me is very similar to the standard Pro V1.

Interesting that the Titleist Pro V1 and the Callaway Chrome Soft X had essentially the same spin, but 15 yards difference with the Callaway winning. However, the Titleist Pro V1x has basically the same spin with 11 yards more than the Pro V1.

I just started using them myself, very high handicap so price is big driver in my selection. I can attest that they go farther than the Vice balls that I've used, and the second-hand Pro V's. I hit my longest ever drive with one last week, and followed that up on the next hole with a 7 iron that carried about 175 and then rolled up on the green about 3 feet from the hole..... where the group ahead was still putting.... It was only my second round with them so i wasn't locked in on my distances yet, but I fully expected to be a good 10yards short of the green at best.

Interesting... I have average swing speeds, brand new sharp irons etc and a week ago I played an entire round of 18 with a single vice ball. One slight scuff from hitting a path/coming out of a bunker. But still completely playable. Must have hit that ball 90 times and it's fine.

You should have tested the TM "Tour" Response, (not "Soft" response). The "Tour" response in $34/dozen and has a genuine urethane cover, (the "Soft" response does not because it only cost $24/dozen). I have been gaming the "Tour" response this year and so far I am impressed.

I dont think you were able to accurately show a "ball test"... I do think you were able to test balls for yourself.! nice video! a ball test must be done with a machine where purposeful speed increments can be shown with their correlative results. a person/ human hitting balls really isnt a ball test. i enjoyed seeing ball spin and speed numbers even if they arent mine. :) Again, great job!

Yes it does make a difference particularly if you have a club head speed under 9087 prov tp5 are much more difficult to get the distance. Also if you're not used to wedge spin too much will foul you up. I have been hitting the Bridgestone tour and Maxfli cg to be good balls.

Srixon Q Star Tours. Best bang for your buck. You can always find their previous year mods for $20 either on Amazon or even Dicks or Golf Galaxy. Great Ball for my game. Im not good enough to need crazy spin where my ball will go too far left or right but they do stop well on greens and dispersion it pretty tight for me which I love.
