📝 Description
This video discusses a study comparing selling calls and puts in the stock market. The study, analyzing 13 years of data, reveals that despite calls continuing to rise after being tested, puts were more profitable. However, selling calls can act as a hedge against a falling market by offsetting put risk with premium income. The study also highlights lower outlier risk with selling calls. This suggests that selling calls can be a valuable strategy for investors to protect against market downturns, even in a bull market.

I sell more puts than calls... premium when vix spikes is just so much more rich... I sold SPX calls today as part of a spread

I'm confused, the long term p&l selling calls is -19 so how can selling a strangle in all markets in spx be better than sellling puts?

I truly appreciate the energy and time that most people invest in trading, and I wish I could too! but that's not gonna save time. The best thing to do is get someone who is amazing at trading and let them do the job on your behalf why you pay them for their services. This is how I keep earning over $50,000 every month, and it's free advice and money to everyone!

You're right! Expert traders are the best but these people are not easy to come by especially honest and transparent ones. Some are just focused on their fees and not putting the best interest of their clients first

Dont bother selling calls. When the IVR of SPY is high enough for selling puts, the price would have dipped and any call selling would be catastrophic. Only time to sell calls is after a parabolic climb like we just had last week. IMO

Agree 100%. I know you can’t time the market, but the whole philosophy of Tastytrade is to sell high IV. Like you said, IV climbs when the market goes down. The contrarian move is to sell Puts.

Yes. That's what the data says. The idea that selling calls offsets your random put loss from outlier moves is not true. Premium never makes up for an outlier move.

@@loubob21 During periods of high and declining IV, properly managed strangles work the best in that regard. However, you will never achieve a 100% offset no matter which way the market moves beyond expectations.
