"Call Out Old Yeller!" NYS&W Utica Branch Plow Extra
On Feb 4, 2022, a major snowstorm dropped 12-18 inches of snow on the Utica NY area.
On Feb 8th, the New York, Susquehanna & Western plowed its Utica branch down to Sangerfield, 23 miles south of the road's Utica yard.
The plow: Sixty-eight year-old "Old Yeller," No. 93, built by OF Jordan in Dec 1953 and acquired by the Susquehanna from Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome NY, when the base closed in the mid-1990s.
The plow extra is first seen heading south on Utica's Schuyler Street. Following scenes: South Utica, Chadwicks, Clayville, Marshall and, finally, back in Utica near the end of the work day.

I'm watching from eastern West Virginia. Lived in North Utica until 1963. I remember the snow!
Ontario Canada watcher here. Love old train history.
When I first moved to Utica, I nearly had a heart attack when I came upon a train on the street. The plow is much more intimidating lol

Watching from Switzerland/Walensee. Great video, thanks! Love the snow, plow and the dog!
I live in Clinton, on the north side of Hamilton College. I am recently retired. For 44 years, I was the DHIA milk tester for the dairy farms in Paris Station. There are 4 farms whose land borders the track, all located on Summit Road. I tested for 3 of them. Your videos are great.
Watching from Salt Lake City, UT. I hail from Ithaca but have maintained a keen interest in upstate NY railroading since moving to the West. Thanks for a most interesting video!
Well it was good to see Witold in his red collar. He looked great. We also got a lot of snow here in central Ohio. I really enjoyed seeing the snow plow out. Your snow looked like it was dry. We had hours and hours of freezing rain and sleet, then we were blessed with 3 to 5 inches of snow. Thank you for your videos, we really enjoy hearing from you and watching your videos too!

Not as much snow as passed years! This is the first time to see the plow work! Mostly seen in the yard, in the summer time! Like the air operated wings. Great work filming from South Utica. Thanks from Fairfield, NY👍🏻🚂
Now viewing from New Hartford, NY. Originally from Gillespie Illinois. The IC and ITS split our town in half two to four times a day with LOOONG freights. It came down the middle of main street and split it till it left town on the southern side of town. That was so long ago that there was not even graffiti on rail cars then. Hoggers would wave and blow the horn to an excited kid and just totally make his day.. Yep, those were the "good ole days", for me any way. I can hear the train here when they are switching around the old Jefferson Smurfit facility. Have done a few mad scrambles to get shoes on and camera packed to chase it in the area. It is super nice to sit here in my WARM and watch your fine chasing and photography!! I can't feel the whistle, or smell the exhaust, but I won't get arrested for illegal photo parking. Thank you for all the wonderful rail trips you have taken me on through here.

Watching from Melbourne Australia in the middle of our Summer. Overcast today 25° Celsius, just nice and easy.
Brooklyn, NY on a balmy 50 degree day. As a youth I loved watching the New Haven RR electrics pull long freights on the Bay Ridge line. The cars were floated across the harbor and landed near the Brooklyn Army terminal. This stopped in 1969 when the Penn-Central stopped the float service and cut the catenary on the line. Now there is talk of adding this line to the subway system as a cross Brooklyn and Queens line.
Watching from Indianapolis, native of Geneseo, NY, took the DL&W to New York City from Mt. Morris for our Senior Trip in 1957. Great camera work. Thanks.

Until I started watching your video I had no idea the train actively ran on the streets for Utica to get to the old Utica Club Brewer. Watching your videos remind me of home.
Watching from Pittsgrove, NJ. I was born in Utica and lived in New Hartford right near the old O&W section of trackage and the EL.
My Grandfather and his son (my uncle ) were engineers on steam and diesel locomotives between Syracuse and Buffalo for 110 years between them! Went to the Utica Club brewery by train when I was nine or ten. Nearly sixty years ago now. Oh the stories they had.

Watching from Kamloops, British Columbia. I really love watching branchline/ shortline rail action.
Enjoying your video and watching from Beavercreek, Ohio (Southwest Ohio). I noticed that there were no cars parked on Schuyler St. probably because a snow emergency was declared. This made it nice for the engine and plow unit not having to contend with those 4 wheelers on the street. That Jordan Spreader is built like a huge tank, no wonder it’s been around so long. Plenty of ice with 6” of snow on top down here. Keep those great videos coming!

Came up as a recommended watch, and always enjoy USA railroading content. In the UK a seaside town called Lytham a few miles south of Blackpool and it's famous tower if you you want to 'pin the World map'. Now retired used to run a 3rd generation model shop and do 3.5inch live steam trains, can get tight enough curves to run around the garden. 🚂👍☺
