It was merely a matter of opinion. My main hobbies consist of reading intelligence studies, Cold War experiments, military strategy, and foreign affairs. This game's story line consisted of all of the above, so I was pretty intrigued

24:37 - 24:32 When Reznov says 'We are brothers Mason, we are the same.' it's not just repeating one of his earlier lines.. It's actually hinting towards the fact that they've always been the same person, that Reznov was always inside Mason's head. That's such deep and clever writing.. BO1, arguably the best COD campaign ever.

Actually reznov is still alive, reznov died on 1963 and reznov last message is 1969, reznov was rlly alive on black ops 2 and saved mason, woods and hudson on old wounds when they get betrayed

It’s also implied that Mason was tasked with assassinating JFK and actually did it. 1. Hudson says there were gaps where Mason disappeared and nobody could find him. 2. Dragovich taunts Mason as Mason says “You tried to make me kill my president” and Dragovich replies with “Tried?” Then laughs. 3. Mason mentions during him remembering the numbers, he says “Proceed to target, Oswald compromised. The conspiracy around JFK’s shooting was that there were two shooters. 4. At the very end, there’s a clip of JFK landing at Dallas the day of his shooting and it stops on Mason’s face, showing he was there during the shooting.

Damn it people, the call of duty community needs to speak up. We’re really to the point where they just don’t add a campaign because they’re too lazy? Then they claim that the new “blackout” mode is replacing it when it is the shallowest battle royale mode I’ve ever played. Let’s be honest with ourselves, the campaign DOES matter. This game is proof of it

I agree, campaigns are obviously a small part of cod but taking it away is the equivalent of taking away like $20 value. Sure, put a battle royale in and take away campaign, but don’t charge the full $60 that’s just ripping off the consumer

COD4, MW2, MW3, World at War, and Ghosts all had amazing cutscene briefing scenes - but by far, Black Ops looked the best. It fit the theme of the Cold War so well as well as the MK Ultra/Mind control theme.

Black Ops I has the deepest story of all.

I love the theme they went with for the cutscenes. The disorienting flashes, the bizarre sounds, and of course those hundreds of red numbers flying around. Absolutely brilliant 👌

He's going in and out, remembering combat, files he looked over, the coding of numbers in his head, and showing us what's happening at the time of the story, going to def con 2, showing where Nova 6 will hit, great detail in a fantastic game.

Refering to dragovich and JFK. Or McNamaras creepy "Not yet" in the pentagon. Half the shit you see or hear isn't even real.

30:08 - 31:00 is my favorite. The way Mason hears the voices of other characters, recaping just before the big finale, and the music creating the tension is just beautiful.

The score definitely helps. This is probably one of the only games I’ve played where, even though the substance is solid (not groundbreaking, but good), the style is so unified and so clean. The voice acting, editing, aesthetic, and soundtrack coalesce to form such an amazing experience. It’s gripping from beginning to end, and I don’t think it wouldn’t be as engaging if it wasn’t as well acted and styled as it was.

But imo CIA operatives running a secret assassination op during the Bay of Pigs is way less far fetched than everything else the game shows like the US and Soviet Union openly invading each other's territories and raiding each other's top secret sites. If the US and Soviet Union had this many open skirmishes during the Cold War,we'd be dead

In revelations mason says “proceed to target Oswald compromised” Basically saying Mason was a second shooter of JFK. And there’s a theory of there being a second shooter so that means Oswald was captured but Mason got away. And Dragovich says at the end when mason says”you tried to make me kill my own president” dragovich says “tried?”

@ 6:32, 6:53 and 7:48 McNamara, the one who leads Mason and Hudson through the Pentagon uses the names "Prospero", "Ariel" and "Sycorax" as access passwords. These are characters from Shakespeare's The Tempest. Prospero is a sorcerer who gets stuck on an island with his daughter and Ariel is a spirit, a fairy, who is bound to serve Prospero after he freed him from Sycorax, the witch who previously lived on the island. Just a little English lit poured into an awesome COD campaign 👌.

That walk during Mason's revelation is probably one of the best parts of Black ops, his VA did a fantastic job

I loved the reference to these interrogation rooms in Black Ops II, where you're on the mission where you go past a setup much like this one, and the guy you're with (can't remember names, srry) reminds you that there were hundreds all over the US in the 60's. Creepy :/

I have a great deal of love and respect for the early Treyarch CoDs (World at War, Black Ops, Black Ops 2). They had daring, gritty campaigns, and that sick style that blended real life footage with fiction.

i love this storyline it's my favorite. You start out confused, and as the story goes on the more you learn, it's my favorite story line out of all the call of duty games.

the plot could easily go for a good movie or series. Amazing plot and btw amazing voice acting!

If you look closely at the end 32:43 you will see that the lady reading the numbers has a copy of JFK's "Profiles in Courage."

31:49 such a relief back then when this scene played. So much freedom and coolness in it. Damn we were happy after this badass campaign. And right after that scene, gets thrown into zombies :D That was surprising. Such a shame we will probably never getting something like this again.

8:45 still gives me chills

11:34-12:06 the music matched with the images and dialogue is unmatched. Black ops 1 is the best cod of all time.

When your own country is interrogating you..Different feeling

Bo1 had the best campaign in COD history, even these intros are so unbelievably atmospheric. Perfectly captures the chaos of the Cold War in the 60s.

This campaign was like a movie, best campaign in any cod and probably any video game tbh

Even after a decade this COD campaign still has one of the best plots, best voice acting, and introduced some of the best characters in COD history. Cold War's campaign wasn't bad but it will never hold a torch to this masterpiece.

Twisted storyline. Better than averaged movies out there

That makes sense Viktor Reznov was only helping Mason to escape, not himself not everyone only Mason so he can avenge him.

i would pay to watch this in the theaters with some extra new scenes added

Back when call of duty story telling was at its peak and made history so damn interesting

The final cutscene gives me chills every time.

28:25 for some reason I love watching this scene

God, seeing all the hidden messages and subtle statements in these scenes pointing to the fractures in mason's mind and his subconscious goals is just... stunning. They don't make em like this anymore. I miss the early 2010s.

I only watched this to see the end, seeing Mason zoomed in.

18:41 is pretty sad if you think about it. Up until Blops2 Mason had thought he was the only survivor of is team, thatll scar ya for sure. Funny to think it was the same thing with Soap from MW, he thought he was the sole survivor after Zakhaev until the Gulag mission.

30.02 to 30.06,possibly the best 4 seconds of all the CoD campaigns

Don't know if anyone will see this, but the parts where it goes into Hudson's point of view, no numbers show up. At the final mission, when Mason finally knows what the numbers mean there's no numbers when it transitions to the final mission. Very interesting details.

Easily the most hardcore and the most intense call of duty campaign thus far.

0:36 this scream always had Me laughing out loud

The best cod game ever! Funny detail, in the first cutscene where they showed USA and the USSR mapped, the USSR didn't have Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Kazakhstan or Lithuania even though the USSR had all those countries after world war 2

@@TypicalMan Also for the Kowloon mission (1968), they used a HKSAR(Used since1997) Flag to represent Hong Kong, which they should have replaced with a Dragon and Lion Flag (Used during the British colony era 1959-1997)

Pause at 19:43 and read about the Cheyenne and Greenbrier military complexes, both are extremely fascinating locations, this game knew its cold war history and locations so goddamn well.

Meanwhile, Adler’s brutally torturing the shit out of a Russian POW from Rebirth.

15:18 is by far my favorite scene in this game.

Always loved the visuals to this game, and how they always changed depending who you’re playing as, you see the numbers when you’re playing a mission as Mason, but you see everything clearer when you’re playing as Hudson. It’s the little details like that.

Black ops Cold War better have a campaign just as serious as this

I loved this campaign. Especially the revelations part blew my mind.

Amazing voice actors. Even though I love Cold War’s campaign, the original Black Ops blows it out of the water.

Missing these days as a kid playing the campaign. 😔

The voice acting and music at 17:35 is so good esp with Mason "my god...the numbers, they're real!"

The cutscenes are just art, never seen before it's so amazing and eye catching, I keep coming back to this video just to look at them. Amazing work 3arc!

This is more of a movie than it is a video game than any Call of Duty ever.

Its my favorite story as well, I love how the storyline makes you think especially with the twist near the end with Captain Price and I agree with you I believe it is by far the best call of duty storylines in the series.

The way this game just pulled you in man. You don’t see that anymore. I compared cutscenes to newer cods and it’s just not the same. And I mean newer cods not like bo2 that one was good too but it’s literally just as good as a movie. I played the entire campaign in one sitting.

Originally what Dragovitch brainwashed Mason into assassinating Kennedy, but the loss of Reznov had reversed that technique.

“We wanted Steiner alive! Why did you have to kill him?!” “Because the damn numbers were telling me to! How many times do I have to tell you!?”

I just noticed after all these years, all the missions that had you play as Mason he was surrounded by the Numbers then at the final mission it focuses on his CIA file and this time not surrounded by the Numbers

Best CoD campaign to date, matter of fact best CoD in general ever hands down ‼️💯 god I miss these days back when I was a kid, zombies was in it's absolute prime. Staying up all night on weekends playing BO1 zombies, GTA V & Minecraft with the homies

One thing I like more about this game than cold war is they dove deeper into the Vietnam war and had more missions about it.
