Calitzdorp Drought - Feed for a Farmer Project

On this trip, I joined ‪@soul_fuel_offroad‬ as we ventured off to Calitzdorp. Last year Rinus along with Dawie created a documentary to create awareness and assist the drought-stricken farmers of the area. This project was called Feed for a Farmer and you can view more information about this trip on his channel or in the links in this description.
We arrived in Calitzdorp and the scenery has completely changed. Last year they were still struggling with a 7-year drought, but this year the heavens opened. 2023 was the first year in which this region received adequate rainfall. The valley is neon green compared to last year's brown landscape.
We headed up the mountain with some local farmers and enjoyed a lunch-break braai at the top, as we overlooked the town below. That night the locals held a feast for us cooking, braai-ing and catering as all the locals came together at Karoowater Guest Farm. It was a successful day of filming and gathering content for Rinus's follow-up video which he is working on.

It was time for everyone to head home, but I had some extra time on my hands and wanted to explore our country a little. I made my way down towards Heidelberg. After crossing the flooded Gamkarivier, Rooibergpas and heading through the town of Van Wyksdorp, I arrived at my campsite. I was planning to stay over at Nona Rose Bushcamp, just outside of Heidelberg. Unfortunately, the campsite was closed due to a flooded river, however, the farmer said I could attempt to cross the river at my own risk and attempt to reach the campsite. The water was pretty high, but it was passable, so I got to enjoy my night at this beautiful campsite.
My last bit of adventure was crossing the Breede River via the Malagas Pont/Ferry. It has been on my list for ages and so I set out to enjoy a cruise on the Malagas Pont. I've never been over the updated diesel-powered ferry. I've only experienced the hand-operated pontoon. It was the perfect way to end this journey!
