Nice info Mike. You can zero a dial caliper too... Loosen the bezel thumbscrew, rotate the dial to zero. Happy turning!

Good to know, thanks. Now that you mention it, I think I knew that and forgot since I don't really use the dial calipers any more since I got the digital.

Mike, thanks for the mention. This was an excellent review. Good idea on rounding the tips on calipers. Also the pointer about pulling calipers off spindles rather than pushing.

Good info, Mike. For spindle work, I went to a caliper by Peter Galbert, the chairmaker. It is spring-loaded with a built-in scale. It is a little pricey ($69), but when I'm making a production run of Christmas ornaments, etc. it is indispensable!

Thank you for this! I've been wood turning for a few years, but haven't (yet) ventured into bowl/vase making. I learned a lot in this 13 minute video.

Pulling the calipers backwards off the spindle, what a great tip. I tried it today and it worked rally well, That's the best tip I've got in a long time. Thanks for posting all your vidieo Mike...

Mike great video but you were going to comment on how to grind the tips of calipers to reduce grabbing. Did I miss it somehow?

Have you heard of the Golden Section Gage that is supposed to partition an object into a ration of 1.64? Eddie Castilin mentioned one in his video but didn't show how to use it.

Seems like it's nature's way to divide objects or architecture. I'd be interested. I ordered one on eBay without knowing what it might do for my wood turnings. I'm hoping it will help me make wooden eggs.
