Snow Not Melting Fast is a Very Good thing, By Melting Slow it ends up in the Aquifer, Replenishing Ground water as opposed into the streets, Flooding.

The slower it melts it will help water ways and land. You don't want it to just run off

Because Ca. Leaders got lazy. No one completed the extended water management plans for our state. Waterways and damns were not completed. So, now that our snowpack has doubled there's no where for the extra water except flooding towns and into the ocean!

Climate Change says:"Hold my Beer"

GOOD! The longer it stays frozen the better! Hopefully, El Nino' won't melt it too quick.

It's going to be a Great Gold Panning Season in northern Nevada from the Sierra Mountains this year!! California Too!! Good Luck!!

Would bet that the snow pack will be in place through the fall and into the next snow season.

That would indeed be very interesting as it would most likely impact future rain and snow falls.

The snow is very bright and its high albedo may well moderate melting and run-off.

This will be interesting to see how it all plays out. If we get another Winter like last season and a colder than average Spring and Summer at the highest elevations, it won't be long before we talk about mountain snowpack staying year round. More heat and sunlight that is needed on snow free areas up high aren't getting it as fast. Snow this deep is going to keep that solar heating down, keeping snow longer up high. This is a good thing and a bad thing. Good thing is it will keep the water melt pace slower but steady to fill reservoirs. Bad thing is it keep more and more snow from melting sooner. At that point, we are totally dependent on the tipping point being what the weather will do. With a high snow pack and even a slightly cooler trend during the Spring and Summer means drastically can alter things. It's still snowing in the Sierras as of today. With such a snowpack, we prefer a cooler Spring up high. A very warm finish to Spring would be extremely bad as it would maximise runoff.

i remember few years ago, northeast had so much snow, that piles remained in the end of May despite hot weather, so who knows west coast might not fully melt

If they know this, dig the resivours deeper

I hope it will replenish the groundwater supplies that have been raided by Big Ag - not a drop needs to go into the sea - so I hope it can all be diverted to save it.

Would be interesting to think what sort of comments we will get if some of this pack lasts to next fall and new snow accumulates on top of it.

Maybe, the scientist are saying with all the volcanos going off we might start cooling off again?

The past normal water supply has not been able to meet the increased demand from CA. They must reduce their consumption as have other states.

The top layer of snow insulates the bottom and stops it from melting.

It is a fact that the Honga Tonga-Honga Happi volcano had a strong impact on the weather this year and for 2 more years. We can expect severe weather for 2 more years. There are also several volcanos around the world in very high activity mode adding to the weather changes. At this time "man made climate change" is tiny compared to the effect of volcanos.

It's good you don't want to melt fast if it melts slow it'll sink into the ground not run off you need that

Didn't Trump tell Newsome it was going to get colder? Seems he was right again.

Let's not forget, much of the snowpack got rained on recently. This caused it to turn to ice which doesn't melt nearly as fast as snow.

It won't melt til it gets above 32 deg.Till then its going to me!t slowly.

This coming week temperatures are going to rise later this week. It looks like it will reach the average temperatures for this time of the year.

You really don't want it to melt fast, slow and over time will make it easier to manage. Also, finding a way to divert excessive melt off's over and into Lake Mead, or California can build their own Lake Mead capacity super damn, thus relieving their draw off the Colorado River system.

Diversion to lake Mead is highly unlikely on large scale as watersheds of rivers flowing to California and rivers feeding Colorado River above L. Mead are too far apart, both in distance and elevation. What could perhaps be done is construction of pump-storage power plant between Folsom Reservoir and L. Tahoe with installed capacity of some 1 300 MW that would able to divert small portion of water, at high price, to arid region and then some small scale diversion that would send water to "other side" of the mountains. And as well such that would divert water to lakes that are drying up and would fill them to the brim.

we dont want the snowpack to melt fast a good portion of farmland is already flooded and if it melts fast more farmland will be flooded. Seen the revival of two dead lakes owens valley & tulare. Kinda running out of places to put the water but some are talking about trying to divert some of the water towards the salten sea
