Congratulations to Dr Theresa Price on her accomplishments. A new HBCU cannot be established as the requirements to be an HBCU includes being established by 1964 before the Higher Education Act of 1965.

Federal Recognized American Native Tribes Get Free College in California. Black American Descendants of Slavery should get that same treatment. DESCENDANTS OF Enslaved Black Americans are less than 10% of the population in California and over 50% of homeless, they are victims of over 50% of the hate crimes in California, they face the most employment discrimination, and they are also denied apprenticeship opportunities.

It has been so weird being from the South and moving to LA in the last two years. I’ve met multiple Black people who have never even heard of HBCUs and actually met one who had never heard of Lift Every Voice and Sing ! Needless to say, this is desperately needed on the West Coast.

There are a lot of people that don't know about it. There are a lot of black people on the west coast you wanted to an HBCU and didn't go because guidance counselors and/or schools didn't/don't mention it.

I have not heard of Charles Drew Medical School being a HBCU. I worked with a lot of students who went to Charles Drew.

What is happening is that they are creating a new branch/satellite campus of an existing HBCU (Huston-Tillotson University) in California. Technically, a new HBCU can't be established anywhere because HBCUs by definition are colleges that were opened prior to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for the purpose of educating Black students, many of whom were barred from attending white colleges due to legal segregation.

Charles Drew is not a HBCU. It does not have that designation even though it is one of the only predominantly black medical schools in the nation.
