Thanks for doing this video. I was trying to decide whether to take 88 or 4 over the mountains and this video helped with making that decision. 🚙😊

🤩🤩🤩 Looks like an amazing place to just go hang out and read a book while being around scenic nature

As it turns out, not being able to film Ebbetts Pass in May was a blessing in disguise as we get to see the fall foliage when you returned in Oct. Most likely, there's even more fall colors up there. But we won't know as Ebbetts Pass is now closed for the season. & with the 1st major storm heading into the Sierra Nevada next week, it's going to remain close for a good while. Having watched your previous 2 series on the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway, this was the best do-over due to the video speed. All the hair turn curves, plus the high speed of the previous videos does make it look you're in a roller coaster ride going up & down the mountains. Also a note thanks for mentioning that Ebbetts Pass sits on the Great Basin Divide. For some reason CalTrans doesn't mention this when one drives on it- be it at Ebbetts Pass, Donner Summit, or Sonora Pass. That said, here's to your next series of road videos. PS, since you removed your previous videos on CA-4 in the Sierra Nevada, I re-watched a video from another road warrior who drove it going westbound & he drove by a RV & 2 big rigs which seen to be struck- on the single lane part of the National Scenic Byway. Although the video is several years old, I'm still like "didn't these truckers see the yellow sign right as the highway narrows to a single lane recommending such vehicles don't drive pass that point? They put those signs up there for a reason!

Yep! Timing is everything. The road is usually open from Memorial Day to the first major snowfall, usually around early November. As you mentioned the road is closed for the time being and probably won’t open again until May or June next year.

I loved this video - may be my favorite of your many excellent videos. I drove this two years ago and by watching your video I was actually able to enjoy it even more, not having to worry about my brakes failing or driving off the edge on a sharp turn. When I drove it I actually honked my horn going around some of the very windy curves to make sure I didn't hit an oncoming car. I agree with the other viewer who suggested Yield signs at some locations. Hopefully you'll film highway 89 over Monitor Pass sometime, if you haven't already. That's also a spectacular drive.

I'm always up for a challenge. CA 4 looks like it'd be an absolute blast to drive. Almost like a great roller coaster if there were a wee bit more speed applied! 😎

It's like Skyline Drive in Canon City but like 10-15x longer!

Now imagine driving on that very road on a 1920s car with cable operated brakes and an overheating engine! Must have been a roadtrip to write a book on back then.

CA 4 / Ebbetts Pass is the one Sierra pass I have not done yet. CA 108 (Sonora Pass) was already quite intense and this one seems even more so. I really enjoyed getting to see it through your video, though - and maybe one day I'll work up the courage to drive it myself.

Really interesting music, too, in the second half. Quite enjoying it as something a little different from the usual in highway videos that we all do 😺

Thank you! It's definitely more intense than Sonora Pass that's for sure. If you get to drive it, it will definitely be an experience you will never forget! The music is from www.epidemicsound.com It's a great site for royalty free music.

The state did upgrade some bridges I saw them doing it! It has to be cold enough for fall colors! Please include the Month Date & Year!

What about yield signs especially the very narrow sharp curves

If you had noticeable number of cyclists, fully developed tourist amenities at the passes, and some road straightening without widening, you would have lived a true Alpine experience.

Unfortunately, the camera shaking (twisting around the center-of-lens axis) made much of this unwatchable for me - it started making me dizzy and a bit nauseated. It was too bad, because the scenery looked like it was fantastic. I did like the choice of music, however, and found much of it rather relaxing. I couldn't tell what could have caused the way it was shaking - it seemed to be either something in the suspension or in the camera mount. I'd like to drive that sometime - a road with lots of turns and twists doesn't bother me that much, especially if I'm driving. (Laugh!) I'd probably take a pretty long time if I do get the chance - pulling over to enjoy scenes a lot and investigating interesting stuff (like unusual-looking rocks).

The shaking of the camera is simply the quality of the road. My camera has image stabilization but if the road is bumpy, the camera will shake, it’s just how it is. Driving on this road it was definitely bumpy in many places as the road takes a beating from the harsh weather found here. There’s not much more I can do on my end to prevent the shaking. The camera is secure and mounted. I’m glad you enjoyed the video nonetheless.
