In the rulebook there's a 2 player lower variance variant listed. In which you remove one "set" of 36 tiles. (Set = Each of the 6 unique patterns in each of the 6 colors.) The regular game has 108 tiles (3 sets, so each specific unique color + pattern tile combo has the potential to appear 3 times) but by using the variant you remove 36, making 72 tiles available to play (2 sets. So each unique color + pattern tile can now appear twice.) This lessens the randomness of the tiles, and improves the chances of seeing a specific tile needed. Like the yellow palm Lincoln was looking for. I highly recommend using this variant, I use it for all my solo & two player games of Calico.

Love this show - Everyone does an excellent job explaining the games. Just bought Calico,got home and watched this episode - and wow there is so much more to the game than the box tells ya. Love the art and how the kitty art is based on real kitties. :) Another great one from AEG :)

Funny watching this and Arboretum back to back (heading to board game cafe this evening with a friend and checking out some stuff ahead of going ) - both painfully simple in-play rules with maddeningly frustrating scoring. Not sure how much they’ll be my cup of tea but that’s the magic of a board game cafe 😃 thanks for the play guys!

They're not bad once you understand them. They make more sense than NASCAR Playoffs. Just saying... Point resets?! Regular points vs playoff points? The driver with the most points is not necessarily the winner?

I just love Calico. All you hear in any game played, "These are just awful tiles"," Terrible, just terrible." A real brain burner. I pledged for the game, and while I waited, I crafted the PnP, with double layer boards and box art. A great Christmas gift to a relative when the final version arrived.

I just adore you guys. And what a beautiful game! AEG sent me this for coverage in early September and it's been stuck in Singapore since the 23rd. I'm hoping it makes it the rest of the way to Australia at some point. The pieces look lovely in those color coordinated geek bit bowls. Great video guys.

I think to improve the thinking time and remove distraction I would create three piles of quilt tiles, so when you remove one you have an automatic replacement. When a pile runs out just make a new one.

It seems like a frustrating game, yet cute.

It's frustrating in a fun way, not a "How did my dryer eat my favorite sock" way

I really wish i hadnt hesitated when this was on KS but had quite a few other projects i had backed at the same time and US to UK postage is always an issue unless you can group pledge. Hopefully pick this up sometime in the future though. P.S. loving Nikkis new length hair!! really suits her

As an ailurophobe I'd love to see a puppy version of this game, the tile placement looks great but whenever I look over at the pattern scoring my tension raises... I don't think I can get this game, but it looks really fun.
