That was pretty nice. That’s also a very nice engineering shop you’ve got as a service for your customers.

Great tutorial guys, thank you! I had requested this previously and this really demystifies the shimming process! Another question though. Why is it that some cinema zooms, like the DJO Pictors, need to have shims adjusted based on the camera you are using, while other cinema zooms, like the Tokina ATX and Fujinon MKs, do not? I have the Tokina ATX 50-135 and have had no issues with its parfocal-ness (is that a word?) when swapping between a Red Komodo and Sony A7Siii. I also used the Fujinon MK 18-55 on the A7Siii and it has a handy back focus lever. I guess that lever does the trick for the Fujinons, but why no need to make any adjustments with the Tokina?

Thank you so much for providing this information. Very helpful in these days of PL mounts for komodo and bmpcc's p.s. if you remove all the shims should lenses work properly on PL original mount cameras like alexa mini/red gemini?

Thanks so much for this tutorial. I had an issue with my Lumix S1H and the anamorphic lens Sirui 50mm T2.9 full frame: when focus was set sharp on infinity the lens barrel indicated a distance between 5 and 15 m - and, still some degrees left to go on the barrel until the hard stop. No chance to do quick manual focus moves from the foreground to the infinity background which drove me nuts. And even worse, although the lens worked great in combination with my Ronin RS2 and the 3DFocus for in-range distances of the lidar sensor (up to 7m) it completely messed up my shots when pointing at the infinity of the background - because the calibration procedure of the 3Dfocus assumes infinity where it should be on a lens, namely at the end of the barrel rotation. With a set of shimmings from Sirui and your video I could adjust my lens within 30 mins by using the S1H's built in focus peaking and focus magnification. No need to adjust any other distance meterings on the lens with true distance. It was all about hitting infinity at the end of the focus way.

I cant find the DZO Vespid/pictor shims anywhere! Will any other brands of shims work for them. I cant focus on infinity with my 35mm.

What happens if you cant remove any more shims? I have all of the shims out and cant get the backfocus to set to correct distance.

does someone know for the catta zooms which shims are in it originally from factory?

Thank you. I wish to swap ocular lens between to early and late model zooms, the newer lens is scratched. These are not cine lenses and calibration is not super critical. The shims are different. Do I swap the shims with the glass or leave them on the body? Do the shims "belong" to the glass or the body?

If anyone needs to know - shimming for FF Catta Ace Zoom for canon EF for 70-135 is .62. Shimming for 35-80 is .69 (NICE). Done with the canon c70 with RF to EF .71x adapter.

Can you recommend a lens shop that is up to CVP's standards in the US? I am looking to have my Canon C500 mark II lens mount properly shimmed as well as my full set of XEEN primes lenses. I would very much appreciate your assistance!

old lenses made for film which is IR-sensitive. digital chips arent: so analoge lenses dont reach infinity. no shimming is helping. adapters must be adjusted. best: variable register adapters. i made one to shoot P67 on EOS. and getting best focus at real infinity. which isnt 2.7 but at least 7.8km. could compare with novoflex Noflexar 200mm lens which is going beyond infinity. Novoflex newest P67-adapter-system is going beyond infinity. so are doing newest Zeiss lenses. Batis Milvus Otus Tout. dont understand why using shim. viewfinder telling how to focus. cam with adapter have right register. lenses not made for digital!!! adapter must be shorter than register! shimming useless its the other way round, adapter adjusted or lens must go beyond infinity. NB: just found a tripodcollar attached to front of p67-200/4 new can also be used as focus-blocker. when lens is going beyond infinity.
