Hiro was dancing with his dance mentor Shan S behind him. 20 years ago Hiro used to sit at the back of the studio watching Caleaf practice.

Yeah, these guys have been around for quite some time. Looked like Caleaf was kind of winded. The tracks were actually kind of fast and did not allow these guys to show more of their skills.

Wow, thanks for sharing that. I saw in an interview that Hiro stayed at Shan S's place in new york for some time while Hiro studied from him :)

Khalif is one of my favorite dancers. Back in the 90s I used to be good friends with him. I remember when he used to dance with Peter Paul and the Mop Tops. I used to like to see him and Peter Paul dance because they were tall and slender. Most dancers are short.

Caleaf is the best house dancer!

Sure, almost anyone can learn house dance moves and study the culture...but being form the motherland with that dna brings another level of dance expression, learn all you want but it's in our blood so there is really nothing to learn for us,just focus and do.Hiro is a great dancer but like so many not of the culture,he really does not get what the deep groove is about and thats the difference between these two.

Berzerk 1 I can’t agree with that, dna plays a certain point sometimes in what ur body can do and physical peaks, but in dance it’s about knowledge and hard work, caleaf has just experienced so much more it’s not about his dna u don’t even realize but u lowkey downplayed his hard work with this statement. There’s so many not from the culture and still have deeper grooves and flow because of their dedication passion, pain and work

Berzerk 1 literally this was years ago and I’ve seen a recent video of hiro in the past week where his groove is so ridiculous and deep set comparing it to this it doesn’t look like the same person. There’s nothing hard work and experience can’t achieve whether ur dna is of the culture or not. Especially in dance.

@@Zmantan213 Zion I agree with you and I agree with Berserk, because from an Africans perspective this can be learned but then you need a good teacher who CA make you understand the heritage of the Dance. I followed Çaleaf and Tony Ray's journey during Juste Debout 2019. I'm from the country with the "rubbish house music and DJ's" as it was called. Caleaf and Tony Ray caused quite a stir and they so deserved that win. But as a South African I could feel them from here and Tony Ray's roots might not be from here, but when I looked at both I could connect with their vibe their style. Because i see both every day. Yesterday my mom and her friends gathered on our veranda and our neighbours boys in their backyard. To the same song my mom and her friends danced like Caleaf and the boys like Tony Ray mixed with more of our New styles. For us Caleaf is our interpretatiòn of Old school house and Tony Rae has the vibe of the various New School styles that is more danced by the younger generation. It's just always fresh to see someone who is not obviously black dance like a black person as hours is the dance of our black and coloured people. If a white or àsian or Indian person can dance like that here they cause a stir. But the youth is more integrated so among them it's more common now as they dance together.

@@micksolo2912 Nice to hear from that perspective. I'm just some german guy who always loved to hear techno and house music since childhood. After learning alot about dancing in general I just stumbled over this wholesome house culture and try my best to learn this dance with as much love and passion as I can get out of me. Hard to get the groove though, little stiff, hehe. But I will give it my best so that someday I don't look like that cringey dude trying to be all hippy-di-hoop-la without understanding a thing. Wish me luck and have a nice day!
