Calculator fixing

Many years of not using, caused the silver plastic to deteriorate. So I thought of try and fix the screen and so I did. Like I said in the video if you have a larger transparent tape and a wrinkle-free silver plastic use that. The silver plastic that I had is from a lays packet It is not necessary thing that you should remove the plastic layer shown in 2:37 I removed mainly because it was difficult for me to remove all the glue above the plastic

make sure that you use a large transparent tape and a wrinkle free silver plastic to get the best result or else if you used two tapes which overlapped each other you would get as shown in the video 😅

I am too scared that I may break the glass. How did you take out the polarizer? Did you use some solvent?

I was wondering if there is a specific type of "silver plastic" that works best. Is the silver plastic just a metallic conductor sheet overlay-ed in a plastic sheet? is it the same material as a potato chip bag? or do I just need a metallic surface for the display to show?

I don't know whether it is available in the market. It didn't felt like metallic. The material is not same as the chips bag but it was the most similar looking and easily available material that I found. You could like try with different material( paper, various plastic, metallic sheets) and see which works better that is which material provides best visibility

I used flex kwik or you can use superglue, you can use any other clear glue for this. Even though I used this the plastic was not sticking

Mine still works but I had to replace the battery. I do remember my calculator still working without a power source but had to keep the solar cell in moderate light for it to work

@@TRASH2TREASURE but since the battery will leak, isnt it better to not put in battery and just use solar charging?

If you are planning to use the calculator it is better that you replace the old battery to a new one. Leakage happens when a battery is left in a device for too long, especially when it's not used. Relying on solar will work but there will be many situation like when you are doing a calculation and by mistake covered the solar cell you might have to retype it, this will become a problem if you are doing matrix or algebra

It depends on your calculator. In my calculator it is showing the size LR44
