Lets say the patient has an interventricular septum defect with a left to right shunt and he/she has a Swan Ganz catheter in place. Do you measure pulmonary veins oxygen saturation to calculate Qp? (and how do you obtain blood from the pulmonary veins?) or do you just assume it is 100% in the abscense of an intrapulmonary shunt and in the abscense of lung pathology?
