I have been watching a lot of videos about soap making. Yours are more helpful than others that I have seen. I like them also because they are simple and honest, and I decided to follow your advices and knowledge better than many others that I have watched. I wish I had that wonderful red sand from Australia but I am making soap and adding some sand I just got from the bank of the Arkansas river. Thanks a lot!

When I moved to Australia (from the USA) as a 35 yr old, using the metric system felt like a monumental task. TBH, I still have issues with maths in general but learning to use the metric system became easier with use. I'll be honest, the hardest thing now is dealing with an american recipe for cooking food, because american tablespoons are 15 ml, but Australian tbsp are 20ml. Cup sizes are also different. To make things even more difficult, some cups & spoons are made for the american market and so have a different volume than the "standard australian" cup/spoon size. So.... I end up measuring by milliliters, or a tbsp = 3tsp, so I dish up the spices by teaspoon. I just have to make sure I keep my cup & spoon sets together instead of mixing and matching. I rely on Google for a lot of translations. And while I'm working one can often hear me randomly call out, "Hey Google! Convert 350° F to C" or "He Google! How many tablespoons are in a cup?" Etc. It's great for working while my hands are occupied.
love the way you make everything simple yet practical like weighting the mould. Love all your videos.
Understood completly, thanks Elly.

You’re videos are amazing and you’re such a good teacher. Very calming voice and very informative. So for your example of 70% oils the 30% would be lye solution? Would the calculator work out the NaOH and water needed? Thanks
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, that's basically right, except many soap recipes have added ingredients and fragrance etc. The lye calculator will work it out for you. This video talks about that part in detail kzread.info/dash/bejne/c6V_2sunYNSXkrA.html

@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking I'm still a little confused because if it's 70% oils and 30 % water. How does this translate into soap cal. Where do we type in the 30% water? Would that go under the water to oil percent plug in?
@Lovestgroup
3 жыл бұрын
@@zaiflowers2878 Aiden, I am new, hope this helps, I'm answering because I see no response. When you plug in your numbers for grams, lye and super fat, all your oils/butters, at the bottom you will click on calculate recipe and then right under that you will click view and print recipe, you will see how much water. Hope this helped you.

We made some soap based on someone else's video, before we found your channel. My husband is the wannabe soup maker. He is recently retired and was looking for something to do when it's too hot to go outdoors. He has watched several of your videos and just did a batch of soap today. He used this video plus the Formulate and Calculate your own soap recipes to determine how much of each ingredient to use. This was his second batch of soap. Each mold was filled and we were short just a little. He also used a 40% LC as opposed to his first batch which he figures was around 31% Thank you for your soap making videos. They are the best we have seen so far. My husband appreciates you taking the time to explain the technical parts of soap making. We are looking forward to watching more as he is also wanting to make sourdough bread as well.
