🛑 CALCULATE LIMIT OF DETECTION (LoD) AND LIMIT OF QUANTITATION (LoQ) | Adwoa Biotech

The limit of detection is referring to the lowest amount of your analyte that you can detect, but not necessarily be able to quantify. The limit of quantitation is the lowest amount that you can both detect and quantify with a predetermined precision. There are several types of limit of detection; you may be interested in the instrument detection limit (IDL), the method detection limit (MDL), the practical quantification limit (PQL) or the limit of quantification (LOQ).
Two methods for deterring the limit of detection and quantification limit are presented in this video. The first limit of detection and quantification method presented focuses on measuring blanks, then using mean and standard deviations calculate the limit of detection and limit of quantitation. The second method uses a standard curve (calibration curve) and the regression line to calculate the detection and quantification limits.

Nice video.Quite explanatory. Looks like it was made for me. Some examples on calculation would have helped.

Informative video. I would like to ask a question about detection limit for ion selective electrodes (ISE). Have you worked with ISE before?

Thanks. I'm sorry that I am not familiar with detection limits for ISE.

What does it mean when you multiply the LOD by 10?

Multiplying the LOD by 3 gets you to an area in the curve where you can start to quantify amounds. While I do not know what multiplying by 10 specifically indicates, it may be that you would now be well enough away from the noise and perhaps in the linear response range.
