i got the feeling that if we do get calafiori, either one or all of these things will occur throughout next season: 1. Arteta will put him at LB instead of Timber, but Timber would move to midfield as a DM. Timber has played there before, he's good at recycling posession and he can transition defense to attack quickly. Rice will continue at No.8. 2. Calafiori will replace Big Gabi as Saliba's partner in the starting 11. It's gonna be Raya-Ramsdale episode all over again. 3. We will play a back 5 of White-Saliba-Calafiori-Gabriel-Timber. White & Timber will play the inverted fullback role or make overlaps while Calafiori will push/drive into midfield. This could allow Rice and Odegaard more freedom to impact closer to the box. Eliminates the need of a classic No.6. Either way, i am excited by the prospects of any one of the above to happen.

I fully get what you're saying about Kiwior - I think Calafiori is the player that Arteta wants Kiwior to be (and to be fair, could still be eventually). The mentality side of the job for our defenders is really important because of how exposed Arteta leaves them. The players need to be capable of winning their duels but they also need to be confident enough to throw themselves into those duels despite knowing that they don't have any support. There's been a few times where Kiwior has conservatively committed to a duel because he's on an island (meaning he'll lose the duel but be in an good position to recover), which results in us losing the stranglehold we had on the opposition, where White, Saliba and Gabi in their own way just wouldn't let that happen.

"Calafiaura" is a good one! 😂 ... And, that was one of the best intro to a sponsored video ever. I mean it!!! 🎉

Agree with your point on Kiwior's shyness translating to his game. It's exactly why I backed Martinelli to succeed after his first year at Arsenal - he was a little rusty and clumsy and all that, but you could tell this guy wasn't afraid to keep trying despite little setbacks and mistakes. Unfortunately, I haven't really seen any of that in Kiwior...

I loved the advert.

mikel’s usage of timber and tomi on the left comes down to a lack of trust in the current options. we have 4 right sided defenders who we trust 100 percent in white saliba timber and tomi. we don’t really have those numbers on the left so i understand wanting to go and get another left sided defender. on top of that i think zini and kiwior could still play important roles this season but in different ways. we relied on them too heavily which was the main issue. zini against a low block is still useful and we’ve yet to see kiwior get any type of consistency at lcb to give gabriel a rest. we need to rotate more this season with a huge fixture schedule if we want to be competitive in 4 comps

I think with Timber, Tomiyasu, White and Califiori we are close to perfect on the fullback positions. Great Signing! As Mikel doesnt like those overlapping fullbacks i think we got every other profile covered on the left AND on the right. We clearly need to do something in front and in midfield tho. Only Saka, Havertz, Odegaard and Rice are clear starters in our Midfield/in Front IMO

What do you think of the Bentley links? That is adding question marks rather than removing them. Play Ramsdale in ALL cup competitions, if Raya makes a mistake - bring Ramsdale straight in. That way whoever has the spot will concentrate on keeping it.

I hope Arteta starts to use Timber at cdm (where he has played at Ajax) which means we can keep a bit of money to be used elsewhere such as for a striker.

Calafiori was a market opportunity. Just like Raya.When A top talent is available no matter the position.Top clubs should be there looking. We was there and swept in. What makes it better its in a position we needed. Judging by artetas comments in that vid that sounds like depth quality. Our rotation squad be it worse has to be good. That sounds like getting quality depth to me.

Kiwior is very good. He came into a title challenging team ostensibly out of position and didn't look out of place at all. Now the likes of Juventus are after him.

Kiwior is in demand so will be sold. Calafiori is def a Kiwior upgrade. Nuno will go. Only real question is Zinchenko - high wages so not easy to shift but let’s see. If we can sell him we have room for another overlapping LB as well, like Ferdi or Davies…..
