I used to help my buddy mount up engines to an engine stand ...after too many oily messes or too many engine drops ...we took the mounting plate out of the fixture .. mount the fixture to the engine ...then slide the stand in...booyea ...your on your way ..

I agree with you that holding the engine in a stand is far and away better then working on it on a bench. I have had the chance to use one of the American Honda engine stands and they go a lot further in holding the engine by the top crankcase only which allows you to turn the engine over and remove the bottom case to inspect and work on the crank and transmission. If you were to connect the two top brackets with a cross strap, you could bolt or weld on a bar or arm over the top of the crankcase that would hold the engine when it is upside down. I'm thinking of making something like that myself.

I have to agree with you, my design works Okay but improvements could be made. I would be interested in seeing some pics of your design when finished. Thanks for watching my channel.

Just a public service, he said 9”, a Honda 750 is 9.25 on mount width. Also the biggest I have in my shop to justify a max width.

Nice oil mess, I bet that clean-up sucked... I don't think I've ever been able to pull an engine without making a mess, even after draining it.

Yeah, funny thing. Carpenter ants built a nest inside one of the cylinders, that's why the engine was froze up. Nothing damaged, cylinder hone cleaned up nicely. Cat litter took care of my Valdez oil slick.
