    I'm so glad we went back to the real uniforms last year (yeah, I marched last year). And I LOOOOOVE old-school Garfield Cadets. I'd have to say that my favorite show from the 80s would be 1987. From the 90s would probably be 1992, 1996-98.

    I don't know why but even when they have poor corography, they're good. I am a huge Cadets fan and always will be. I hope they stop those narrations soon though.

    wait, double take WHAT?! (is it another case of them not wanting to buy the rights to something, so they had a similar piece arranged? (which is apparently exactly what happened with the closer of this very show, (They wanted Medea, from Star 93, but went with a tune in the same vein called "False Mirrors" by the brass arranger, wonderful guy he is.

    I think its around the 8th minute, but its toward the end that sounds like triplets, its from the movie Vertigo. It's a vibe part and its sooo friggin awsome the crazy thing is that its not triplets its actually 8th notes. We played it for the opener and our show and got 4th place in the state...yeahh

    Just a bit of trivia and so everyone knows...the right foot step off came from 1985. Profanation had so much mixed meter that they were having trouble with direction changes and stepping off in general. The staff tried switching it to right foot and it worked so well that they kept it from then on.

    with all due respect, this show is exactly the same in caliber as the cavaliers 2002 show. The reason why it's gotten so much bad feed back is because of the bad tv broadcast it was given. If you could see this show from the high cam, OH WOW!!! it's just mind blowing. I was just like you wondering why it got such a high score. But my friend who bought the dvd, showed me the high cam of FINALS night and wow, just wow. This show does match the cavaliers 2002 show.

    @AllStater09 The Z-pull is one of the Cadet's signature drill moves made by the great late George Zingali Check out the Cadet's 1983 show to see the Z-Pull the drill that Zingali designed for the corps he worked with were ahead of their time! I've heard stories he also verbally told each member or section where to go in each drill...That man was a GENIUS!!!!

    @motomachirox yes bad feedback. ALOT of people gave bad feedback when they broadcasted their performance on ESPN. The problem was the coverage they got on their show didn't give them a chance to tell what the show was about. People just started talking bad because of the short 5 minute excerpt they showed on espn. That's what I ment by bad coverage. Not the corps! AND YES! one of the high rated shows of all time

    George already knows why people hate talking, the vets from forever ago until now dont like it. So basically 90% of the fanbase dislikes it yet they swim against the current just to prove a point. The goal of this activity is to provide kids with an experience, not deal with personal agendas. Musically the Cadets are always outstanding but this WGI crap doesnt belong in DCI.

    Total agreement that narration is not necessarily more artistic. Yet I'm playing Devil's Advocate here, because it seems every time I thought I disliked some category of thing, somebody spins around and does it in a way that knocks me out, so it appears I only disliked particular predecessors. I might also suggest a challenge: what if the vocals were not amplified electrically? (Say, limited to natural megaphones, etc?) And what about singing and musical speech (scat, etc)?

    All very emotional, but you haven't said a word about WHY narration "doesn't belong" in DCI and somehow lessens the kids' experience, or WHAT exactly your beef with WGI is, so it's pretty hard to take your comments seriously. Sounds like you're the one who's all personal agenda, and you don't at least have an artistic one to justify it. Score: Hopkins 3, You 0.

  • @brown55061
    @brown5506116 жыл бұрын

    Nobody said narration reduces the kids' experience or that WGI is a bad thing. WGI shows dont belong on a field. When all you have is the pit to color the drumming, you need narration and theater to make a show. But DCI shouldn't need it with 135 horns, a guard and 30 drummers. The fans that BOO these kids are losers but narration is not furthering the activity, its losing the Cadets fans. THAT is my point. Narration is not more artistic, you've forgotten what the "music games" are!
