    Love the race between this Flirt and the Pendolino long-distance VR train. These Stadler Flirts seriously are like sportscars on rails with how they accelerate.

    Loistavia videoita! Suomen oloissa jopa verrattain harvinaisia nämä kokonaiset reittivideot.

    So this is Helsinki to Helskini Airport and back... That underground part halfway is the airport, right (or so the signs told me). But the way back does appear to look different and judging by how the railway ends I guess Helsinki central station is a terminus station... Still is this some kind of "round" then, rather than a back and forth ride? I also saw a very low number of light signs... Are you in Finland using signs inside the cab (in my own country (Alankomaat... Yay, I know how to say that in Finish) I've only seen that for the international high speed tracks, but not for the local railroads)? Of course the Dutch railroads belong to the most crowded and most complex railroads of the world, so maybe it's hard for me to imagine the Finish railroads have so little traffic it's not needed so much? (I could imagine that country inward, but this close to Helsinki, though?) This is also the third country I've seen trains keeping left all the time, while the cars are to keep right all the time (the others I've seen are Belgium and France... Yeah, I don't count Japan and the UK, since the cars keep left there as well). I wonder how many countries do this.... Anyway, this is a nice ride... I've never set foot in Finland (or must I say Suomi?) myself, so it's nice to see the country from a train's cabview ;)

    Yes, this is the new Ring Rail Line, joining an existing commuter branch line (formerly run by M trains) off the westerly Coastal Line to a new flying junction on the northerly Main Line towards Tampere. You can see where the new line and stations have been built, as they look a lot nicer than the tired concrete and steel of the older lines, except that a couple of the bigger commuter stations on the Main Line have recently been renovated. The I train shown here operates the line anticlockwise, using platforms first at the east side of Helsinki and Pasila stations, then returning via platforms on the west side of those stations in reverse order. It would then return clockwise along the line as a P train. When arriving in Finland via the airport, the P train is the fastest direction to Helsinki city centre (by about 10 minutes), but both ways get you there in the end. Finnish railways have both lineside signals and cab signals. The lineside signals are only used when the cab signalling system is out of order, or by the few remaining (museum) trains which don't have cab signalling at all, and in those cases the speed limit is 80kph for a clear signal or 35kph for a diverging signal. The cab signal can permit considerably higher speeds and enforces both signal aspects and speed limits, but I think the block size is the same. The lines in the Helsinki area are all bidirectionally signalled and could be used in either direction, but normal running appears to be left-hand on the slow lines and right-hand on the fast lines. During most of the day, I think the service frequency is at 10-minute intervals on this line. Between Helsinki and the junctions there are also other slow commuter trains which continue along the main lines to Kerava and Espoo, so there are even more trains sharing the line in practice. It's a busy railway, and delays can occur in bad weather, but they usually do a good job of keeping a useful service running.

    @@Kromaatikse It takes 30min from airport to Helsinki Central if you take P-line and 34min if you take I-line. So actually it doesn't matter which one you take, the first one that you catch will be the fastest one. Distances between light signals are usually 1200 meters, but for example between Helsinki Central and Pasila the distance between two signals is around 400 meters. So if cab signalling is not working properly between this stations, the speedlimit is reduced up to 40km/h.

    Yritän taas saada lähiaikoina kuvattua jotain uutta. Kelit on olleet viime aikoina aika huonot ja märän tuulilasin läpi kuvaaminen ei oikein kannata.

    very surprised that music is playing in the background. or even closer than that. is it the driver or conductor. either way, it wouldn't be allowed in the UK. France or many other countries as it distracts the driver

  • @Fillu94

    In Finland it's allowed to listen music in cab as long as it doesn't distract driver. It's actually easier to stay focused (at least for me) while listening to music than just backround noise. We have very rarely any contact with anybody during shifts, sometimes not even a single call from dispatcher/signaller during 12 hour shift, so it really helps when you can listen to radio. Sometimes I also listen to podcasts or audiobooks, so I can educate myself.

    What's that platform at 26:05? An abandoned station, a future station or just an emergency exit? It is between a slight right curve and then a left curve. According to openrailwaymap it must be in kilometer 28,5-29, under the intersection of the road number 45.

    As a former retired driver myself I find it hard to believe that you are allowed to listen to music. In most countries that operate trains this would be not be allowed. How can you hear controls on the train? or other communications with controller.

  • @Fillu94

    @Fillu94

    In Finland it's allowed as long as it doesn't disturb. So when the controller calls to me I just turn down the volume or even turn music of.
