cabelas carnivore 1 horsepower meat grinder 6 year review

well i have had my cabelas carnivore 1 horsepower #22 meat grinder for about 6 years now, and have put a good amount of meat through it and figured id share some thoughts on it. in short it is a beast of a meat grinder, and has worked perfectly over these last 6 years. some features i thought i would use have not been used though. and cabelas still sells this line of grinders. caltoncutlery.com

As far as grinding bone, there isn’t one brand that says you can grind bone other than chicken, even with chicken they don’t recommend it. I’ve been trying to find one that would grind a whole rabbit, and in my search I find that all grinders are made in China with mostly universal blades and plates. My advice is to find one that has good customer service and parts readily available. Cabelas grinders are made by Blue Sky Innovations and the customer service has been stellar. I have the 3/4 hp Carnivore, great machine but I’ve snapped the Auger pin twice not from being overnighted. The cutting knife fits on the shaft differently than the larger units which is why I’m looking to buy the larger machine.

I always run some of the grind back through just to make sure it pushes all the chunks through. Mine is an older 1hp Cabelas grinder. They are great grinders. Also have the cuber/tenderizer attachment. It’s a great addition.

Excellent review! I'm not a hunter, but I do like quality appliances and this one's got to be that. I'm gonna take a look at the three quarter horse model. My biggest problem, is I'm not sure if I'd use it enough, but boy, this sure looks like a good unit. Thanks again, for a good, straight foreward review. Marc T.

I've had a 3/4 HP Carnivore, for 4 years. It grinds it, faster than I can feed it LOL The Jerky Slicing attachment, is an awesome addition, also.

Joe we use to run ours thru a like 4 time but that was only because we added pork fat to our deer meat and wanted it mixed up really well with some seasonings in for our hamburger meat 😊. That's a heck of a machine 😊. Did you buy that right after I moved

hi which of the grinders from Cabelas would you recommend for home use to just grind up whole chuck rolls and whole ribeye rolls / pork loin / boneless chicken etc and make sausages too ? I am thinking this one would be waaaaay overkill for me ( i do not hunt ) just wanna grind my own ground meat thx was a great video cheers from Vulcan Canada

I'm looking to buy a grinder the next few days. I'll spend as much money as I have to but I'd rather spend 100 bucks then 3000 bucks. I have to grind a 2500 lb steer. So realistically I have 700 lb of burger to grind next week and then every year for the rest of my life a steer sometimes deer sometimes elk so 1,000 lb a year for 40 years. Is this my grinder or should I buy a bigger one?
