UTV SXS Bearing Grease Tool explained with bearing cut in half to review what happens on the inside. Used with Can-am Maverick X3, Polaris RZR Razor 570 800 900 1000 Turbo S, Honda Talon.
Here we explain how exactly our wheel bearing grease tool works. This is an important money saving tool. In the video you can see how the bearings are lacking proper lubrication. By using our tool you have saved yourself time and money in bearing replacements.
We make these tools for the Can-Am, Polaris and Honda UTV SxS OHV products.
On all makes we have a couple different ways to go about greasing your bearings:
On vehicles primarily used in water and or mud conditions in which they may spend a fair amount of time submersed and where bearings are more susceptible to outside contaminants. It is advisable to fill the wheel bearing just enough to begin to push grease out of the bearing and then stop. This allows grease to form a protective barrier around the ball bearings, cages, and the race to protect it from water and mud intrusion which is a large factor in bearing failure. On used bearings inspect grease that is expelled from the bearing for overly worn or already contaminated grease. On new bearings skip this step and stop when grease first appears around the seal.
On vehicles primarily used for fast pace riding where water is rarely seen and high speed is a normal activity, only apply 4-6 pumps of grease into the bearing, As you are not in need of a protection barrier and simply need to apply grease to the inside for lubrication and longevity purposes.

I purchased their tool and it worked great. Just as he indicated, it took 5 pumps at each position, 12, 3, 6, & 9. You could buy a competitor's tool that has 4 holes in their tools groove, but their's cost more. Why pay more? This one works just fine for less!!!!. So what, you rotate it, big deal. I'll put the extra cha ching in my pocket... thanks fellas..

Why doesn't the wheel bearing just come with enough grease in it in the first place? This video (how to) is about the 1100th I have seen on what to do to your $28,000.00 machine direct off the showroom floor, before you actually use it. Or at least in the first few months. Can Am should charge $1.29 more for the machine and have the wheel bearing packer do 5 more pumps before they install it. Not sure, from all the replacement, after market parts if we are suppose to use the machine or work on it the first 4 months we own it.

For one dont use any kind of grease, you'll want to use polyrex grease as that's meant strictly for ball bearing, and secondly pumping them bearing plum full will create heat and due to ball bearings dragging, I would highly recommend not putting grease in New bearing than 5-7 pumps a year there after.

Nice video and great explanations but can you explain the benefit of having more, or extra grease since the bearings are riding on the races . If you are claiming that manufacturers are not putting enough grease in there in the first place that is a whole different issue. How do you know if the grease is compatible with what is already in there?

Sounds like you may need to bleed your grease gun, you may not have applied any grease if there is an air bubble. I would check that out first. But if your grease gun does not release as much grease as others then you may need more than the recommended number of pumps.

This little tool can be a sxs owners best friend but in the wrong hands, it could destroy wheel bearings. You really need to spin the bearing while you're filling it. The new cutaway bearing you showed could have a little more grease but you can get too much. Once a bearing is slap full of grease, the balls will not roll . Instead they slide and will ruin to your bearings.

The tool you see in the video is for a Can-Am X3 which is only able to have one O-Ring. All grease tools for the RZR will have two O-Rings. As for the appearance question, all grease tools have a raw machined finish as when they are taken off of our lathe they go straight into to bins to be shipped after cleaning. So the dull appearance you are seeing is attributed to two things likely one from a poor camera quality, and two being this is a tool we use in our own shop for service work, so there is no telling how many uses we have on it.
