Chandigarh was one of the first planned cities in post-independence India. Do you know why Chandigarh is called a planned city? Do you know why it is the capital of two big states Haryana and Punjab? If you don't know, watch this video without skipping anywhere to know some interesting things about Chandigarh. If you are not watching our video for the first time, please subscribe to our channel Telugu family travelers.
Chandigarh was the dream city of India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Although the city has a history of almost 1000 years, it was only a part of Punjab before independence. When Lahore went to Pakistan after partition, Chandigarh was made the new capital of Punjab.
But how did Chandigarh become the capital of the two states? Its story is also interesting. Initially, Haryana was also a part of Punjab. On 1 November 1966, the Hindi-speaking eastern part of Punjab was formed as Haryana, while the Punjabi-speaking western part was allowed to remain in Punjab. The city of Chandigarh straddles two borders, so it was declared the joint capital of the two states. Although it is a union territory, it is under the control of the central government. French architect and urban planner Le Corbusier designed the city of Chandigarh. Spread over an area of 114 square kilometers, the city has a population of around 12,00,000. The literacy rate of this city is 86.05%. On the other hand, you will see PB 01 on the number plates of all government and private vehicles here.
Chandigarh is not only a beautiful city but also a developed city. It is a fast-growing economy with a GDP growth rate of around 8.3%. But the per capita income is 67,370, which shows the richness of the city. The economy here is mainly dependent on income from agricultural, industrial, IT, and tourism sectors, due to which the latest GDP here is around $5.5 billion.
Chandigarh is also a popular tourist destination. Chandigarh is named after the beautiful Chandi Mata Temple here. In Chandigarh, you can see Asia's largest rose garden. Along with this, the rock garden built from waste materials is also a pride of Chandigarh. You can visit many places like Sukhna Lake, International Dolls Museum, Terrace Garden, Fun City, Art Gallery, Thunder Zone to Elante Mall. Panchkula and Vamsa Devi Temple in Mohali are famous here in the city. You can also visit Gurdwara Nada Sahib. Although it has many unique features of the city, you won't find Sector 13 anywhere here because there is no Sector 13 in Chandigarh. There is a story behind it. This number 13 is not good. Apart from this, every road in Chandigarh is covered with 26 types of flowers and 22 types of trees. There are no statues of famous people who are not in any circles or parks. Because this is the condition given by Chandigarh planner Le Corbusier before giving the plan.
