C501 is coming home! Seymour Railway Heritage Centre 'Returning Big George Tour'
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
After spending time north of the border in Junee, majestic locomotive C501 (George) was ready to return home to Seymour. On the 18th January 2020 the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre hosted the Returning Big George Tour; to head up to Albury in New South Wales to pick up C501 and bring him home.
Hauled by T537 and P22, we chase the train from Seymour to Albury where we see the train shunt around. Not long after, Southern Shorthaul Railroad's 4911 & 4917 arrived from Junee with a hornshow with C501 in tow. After hitching up C501, we chase the journey home to Seymour.
The Victorian Railways C Class locomotive is very popular with rail enthusiasts, with C501 being the class leader and the only one in preservation. 10 were built from 1977 - 1978 and were the last new locomotives ordered by Victorian Railways, and the most powerful. C501 is the only one in preservation, the other nine are either in regular service or stored.

C501’s S5T sounding bloody magnificent. Great they had it internally restored. The most powerful locomotive horn when they sound right. Great vid, good sir. 👍
That P22 looks beautiful in the shiny VR livery even though P’s never wore it!
Awesome . . .
Amazing video! I really like the C classes, especially C502 in orange and grey V/Line livery! 😁

My mistake, I heard it was Junee. I know almost nothing about the NSW rail scene.

The locomotive was transferred to Coota in 2018 for a minor repaint to the fuel tank, battery box and bogies. Three washes were given to the locomotive before the tour. It was then taken down to Junee Roundhouse for rust removal. Most of it being done around the cab. The inside of the cab was also repaint. The cab has since been repainted and has now received ICE. The turbo will be the next project to do.
Why was George in Junee for so long?

Why does C501 need a tow? Can’t it do the trip on its own?
Is the train running on standard gauge?
