Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Welcome to 4K Motoring! On the heels of last weekend's Diamondback trip, we are installing a Fidanza Short Throw Shifter in our 2001 Corvette. This C5 shifter kit was under $100 and seems very impressive.

Enjoy! I see no reason these cars should not have come with a short throw shifter from the factory, it's an absolutely necessary upgrade to get the most out of these cars

It has definitely felt stiffer to get it in gear, but I kind of expected that as a trade off for the reduction in throw length. I must need to find a shift knob I like now!

Just ordered a fidanza short shifter for my 11’ sentra spec v. Aswell as a weighted shift knob. Excited to see how it does. Appreciate the step by step process.

Hey man I just bought my C5 and its short throw shifter is EXTREMELY tight, to the point that you cant even wiggle it in neutral... I am reading around how to loosen it and it seems you need to loosen a bolt and or lube up some things... I've been watching the install process and seeing how things work and I can't see anywhere that I would loosen a bolt, or even lube up for that matter. So I am very confused on how I can loosen up my shifter, it is absolutely brutal. Praying for a response, thanks man

This is not an uncommon issue. Notchy shifting has a few causes. If you're short throw shifter has it's own centering springs, they may be adding to the resistance of the transmission springs. If the linkage is out of sync with a transmission, that could also cause it. An adjustment process is possible from inside the car. Fluid condition and level in the transmission could be responsible as well. There are also several videos of people finding air in their clutch line, not allowing the transmission to disengage... But you should be able to shift fine with the engine off even if this were the case.

Is there any adjustment on aftermarket short throws? My gears don’t always get it and are really tuff

Thanks, a STS was going to be next on the list. Quick question about the shaft... does it have the hollow portion in the center for the wedge? I plan on ditching the stock C5 knob, but I want to know if I can go with an unmodified C6 knob or get a universal style one.

  • @4KMotoring

The shifter has overall held up well. The one complaint I do have is that the stick twists slightly due to wider tolerances. Makes it hard to use any shift knob that's not completely round. I'm soon switching to a more expensive brand to compare if the extra money is worth it.

@@4KMotoring sounds good to me! Just ordered one and expecting it on Wednesday. The only shift knobs that I like to use are round ones with no graphic, so thats not a problem for me. Looking forward to your opinion on whether or not a more expensive one is worth the price or not.

Biggest complaint is the metal shift knob gets really hot in the summer lol. The shifter does fine actually, hopefully I'll soon have a video up comparing it to an MGW shifter to see if the cheap price really gets you all the performance.

@@4KMotoring I have found mine to be extremely tight. I'm guessing that will ease up after a while. My tranny was already notchy so this just really highlighted it. Have you got the tick master cylinder? That was going to be my next buy. When I bought this car it was notchy and I thought it was the synchros then I had it flushed and it shifted very well. Now after 6 months it's back to it. Idk what your experience has been but that is what's going on with mine as of now.

@@shannontuttle5754 I had the LS7 clutch installed and fresh fluid in the trans. The factory clutch hasn't given me any issues (knock on wood). It has been driving great, the shifter is just a little firmer to get into gear than was OEM, but that's the nature of a short shifter

Fair point. Name brand products are nice, but with modern CNC production abilities, I see no reason a similar option could not be made significantly cheaper. This was more of a test to see what you get for a small financial investment and a few minutes if work. We may do a comparison to something like the Hurst in the future!
