I love me. I'm working on getting a Yellow 01. Hope to have it soon. And I'm in DE as well. When I had my 94 Z28, I had smoked corners. But had amber LEDs. They passed inspection with no issue.

I've been having my smoked corner lights now for years I hate to admit, but thanks to your video, I believe that I am ready, and have the confidence to get this done myself opposed to hiring someone to do it for Me... Mine is a yellow 2002 with carbon fiber style black racing strips. I like how you just painted your wheels, but think I'm about ready to buy the black Z06 style wheels... TY... :)

I'd switch to white fogs. And I'm definitely going with that option as I have black z06 rims on my white 04 c5. My son calls it the "stormtrooper" theme lol. Also going 20% tint next week hopefully. Thanks again for the great informative vids👍

@@YellowVette04 i have one fog light that is pointing down, and when I tried to see if it felt loose, it felt as if it was on a spring. Then I started looking at different options to buy two new ones, but now think I might just find out what's wrong with the ones I have... Any experience with the fogs??? Guess I should have just watched another video, huh??? LOL...

I just performed the installation of a new set of Ebay purchased DRL light fixtures. Actually only the driver side for now. It took me about 3 hours even using your excellent video instructions. What a pain for a 75 year old man. Sure would be easier if I could have used a lift somewhere. I did it lying on my back in the driveway with the car jacked up and tire about 4 inches off the ground then tire removed. You were correct as other videos stated the last, impossible to see, 10mm bolt was a killer. It was my fault though. I did move the brake vent to get access to it but I could not see it. I could feel it though. Feeling my way around I was able get a 10mm ratchet on it and turn it enough to get it loose but I could not push the light in as expected. I thought I had loosened the wrong bolt. I came back in the house to review your video to see where the bolt should be again. I found my error! I forgot about the spring! I went back out, unhooked the spring and the light practically fell out. Happy to see after about 3 hours of nonsense, using every tool at my disposal, I was able to re-install the new light and all covers in about 20 minutes. Tomorrow I will attempt to replace the passenger light and expect to have it done in about an hour...... Hopefully.... PS: The light looks great and thanks for an excellent video. The best I have seen on the subject! I will be an avid follower

Smart choice having the body shop install them Flash. I got one complete after fighting that 10mm bolt for 3 hours. I think I let out a couple of words that I never heard before. I'll try the other one when I have another 3 hrs!

Just ordered all the same stuff. Look forward to putting them in. My 2001 is black so the black will look great. It started when I was trying to replace the turn/side bulb which shattered and can be seen in pieces in the lens assembly. Couldn't figure out why it shattered. Looking inside you will notice the OEM bulbs get so hot they melt the plastic above, especially in Florida in the summer. This causes a crack and allows water to drip in hitting them bulb and bingo - the bulb explodes. The LEDs and new DRL assemblies will stop this in the future.

That's exactly what happens. You can kinda see mine cracked, but they weren't letting in water YET, so it was only a matter of time. Definitely a nice upgrade and one of my favorites.

I’m gonna do the same thing to my Torch Red C5. My drivers side turn signal socket is pretty burnt, gonna change out both sides while I’m doing it. Looks great on your yellow Vette!!!

Hi Dave, I love these lights and I put them on my C5. Only problem other than the effort it took to install them was going through inspection today. The failed inspection along with my side markers at the rear side of the car. What a bummer! I can't believe after the work it took me to install them I have to remove them. Just thought I would share.😤

I knew some locals require the amber light/lense on the front corner but didn't know the rear side markers were an issue. In NJ, they only care about emissions so lighting and other things are ignored. Thanks for sharing your experience

@@YellowVette04 I ended up buying amber tint and put it over the outside of the light. I removed it and s I'll save it for next time. The marker lights I temporarily put the old one's back.

The lights look great on that car! I have a question. In the end of your video there is an orange C5 with black wheels. I am guessing they are plastidipped? If so do you happen to know how long that lasted on the wheels? Would you do that again, recommend doing that ?

I have a video on the ones I installed, but those LED bulbs are 3+ years old at this point. LED tech is always improving so I'm sure there's better ones out there now.

Did you have to buy a harness add on for the LED switchbacks or did they not hyper flash without it?

I previously installed the halo taillights, so I already installed the hyperflash harness before installing the switchbacks. I have a quick video on installing that as well if you need reference.

What are switchbacks. I am confused. Does it have something to do with hyper flash? I am going to get these light smoked and buy a hyper flash to mount under dash but don't know what switch backs are

Switchbacks are the daytime running light/turn signal. They're white when the lights are on, but flash amber when the turn signal is on and also amber for DRL. The hyperflash harness prevents hyperflash when changing the taillights or front DRL to LED. If you have switchbacks or amber LED DRL/turn signal, or LED taillights then you'll need the hyperflash harness. I already had the hyperflash harness installed when I put the halo taillights in.

I recommend the harness since it will also take care of any issues with LED taillights if you go down that road as well. I have a video on installing the hyperflash harness.

Yes they are. They're amber during DRL, then switch to 6000k when headlights are on. They then switch amber-off-amber-off when turn signal is on. Thanks for the comment and watching 👍

Hey Dave, I've taken my C5 headlight (Buckets) out three times... rebuilt the motors, replaced the DRL melted sockets, replaced the stupid 3157A bulbs that melt the housings w/ LED's (This is a MUST DO!)... I bought new DRL housings and was thinking, do I approach this from above or below. Then I remembered this video. I can do this faster from above, yet the risk of damaging the paint; it's not worth it. Thanks again, for a great video! What did you finally decide on the fog lamps color and wattage?

Definitely can attack from the top, so personal preference which way to go. I did decide to go with white LED fog lights. I have a video I put out just after this one and that includes the bulbs I went with. Gotta love LEDs 🤘

How are both types of LED bulbs functioning 1+ years later? Any issues? I'm about to upgrade my 2003 Torch Red coupe just as you have done. Thank you for pointing out the ridiculous look. I almost bought the totally white/clear lenses like yours, but the law in my state is: "Front clearance lamps, identification lamps, and those marker lamps and reflectors mounted on the front or on the side near the front of a vehicle shall display or reflect an amber color." Bummer. Also I'll be keeping my yellow fogs. I rarely turn them on, so there's almost never the full ridiculous look. Which switchbacks did you eventually get? The ones in your listing above seem to be the too-tall ones that didn't fit.

I do know some states will fail your inspection for that exact reason. NJ only cares about emissions and they don't care about anything else during inspections, so I'm ok here but it's good you did your homework for your location. All of the LED bulbs I've swapped out have been working great with no issues. I didn't have any height issue with the bulbs i bought and linked in the description. A few have gotten the bulb and I haven't heard any issues. Maybe something changed in their design, but let me know if they don't fit. You'll need the hyperflash harness as well.

No inspections in my state but the police here have keen eyes.

Will try to do this in a few weeks to meet local requirements. Regarding DRLs, is there a way for me to disable DRL by cutting one of those 3 wires? I must pass local inspection and DRL must be disabled, but I still need turn signals. I've tried removing the fuses and those steps didn't work for my 2004 C5Z. If you could help or point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

You need a low profile jack and jacking pucks if you use the factory jack point locations. You can use hockey pucks instead of paying crazy money for metal jack pucks. If you're car isn't lowered, you can reach the front and rear cross member with an extended low profile jack. If it's lowered, you may need to drive up on 2x6s just to get enough space for the jack.

For this job and most jobs that would be fine. Still may need a piece of wood depending on how steep the ramps are.

I installed the hyperflash harness prior to installing these since I installed the halo taillights first. I've heard some people say they needed it the hyperflash harness and some didn't, but I'm going to assume there's a hyperflash issue if you don't use the harness or resistors.

@@YellowVette04 do you have info on the harness? I have a 99 and I blacked out the taillights, would love to have the led ones, and just got the smoked fronts. Love your yellow c5. I think that is by far the best color for a vette. You videos have helped cut my time in half on figuring out some of the little quirks on working on mine. Parts to expensive to break. When you switch to the LED turn signals or brake lights, you'll need resistors or the hyperflash harness. I installed the hyperflash harness since I also have LED brake lights and there is not issue with the lights blinking fast.

I've seen some guys remove the headlight and go in from the top without lifting the car. Maybe you could drive up on a few 2x6s to get the clearance you need from underneath.

They weren't that hard. The one screw a little bit of a pain to get to, but I showed how I got it. Took about 1 hour for both and the 2nd light took a lot less time since I knew how to do it better.

Get rid of the yellow fog lights..white would look much cleaner

Always been hesitant to tint my brake lights. There's plenty of drivers that'll hit you behind, don't want to give them even more reason lol. I have plenty of smoke tint left so I think I'll give it a shot.
