Back in 2003, my father bought a new C5 - 50th Anniversary. He paid cash for it. He absolutely loved that car. Then he started having "buyer's remorse". It was not a reflection on the car. He had never spent that much money on a car and was thinking he should have held off. I said to him at the time, "if not now...when?". He seemed to agree with that logic. He had plenty of retirement built up. Then, some years later, his health started failing. Eventually, he moved in with my wife and me. He made it another 6.5 years living with us, before he died at 88 years old (in 2019). Well, that C5 is now mine and it has a very special place in my heart. Besides loving the C5 for what it is, it has special meaning to me for what it meant to my father.

Wanted a vette since I was a kid but always to busy or to practical to pull the trigger. Days before my father passed in may of 2017 he said to me, son NO regrets on your death bed get your Corvette ASAP you never know how much time you have.. I am now a happy 6 month owner of a beautiful 15,000 mile C5 Convertible.. Thanks Dad!!

As part of the team who wrote the service manuals for GM at the Tech Center, I watched this car evolve in the mock-up studios from clay and wood. Its an affordable exotic for sure. Great performer.

i remember seeing a blue c5 when i was a kid and i told my dad i would own one of those one day. that was 16 years ago , last month i bought my first corvette, a nassau blue 2000 model. I've owned several different sport cars, several mustang gts , a 2000 cobra, 3 camaro z28 and a camaro ss. this car is by far the best sports car i have ever owned . i could have bought a c6 but when i saw this car i fell in love and automatically reverted to the conversation i had with my dad so many years ago. wish he was here to see this car i know he would love it to

I just bought my first Corvette ... 2000 Torch Red Coupe .... Love doesn`t even begin to explain how I feel .. I can hardly wait till spring to get it out of the garage and oh yea ... I`m 60 yrs, old !!!!

I wanted a Vette at 17. My dad lived to see me own more than one. He was wise NOT TO HELP ME GET ONE. Too much torque and power for a wild kid.

Just bought mine because my dad had one when I was growing up, it's like driving a memory 💜

These Engineers were on top of their game...amazing knowledge of the Vette' heritage and how to keep the brand improving time and time again!

C5 was the generation that truly saved the Corvette IMO

I loved mine till i wrapped it around a tree..turns out the C5 ZO6 is tail happy and the wheelbase is near 10in too short..but the C6 fixed that

mine is not a daily. It's a weekend car that see mostly canyons, few autoX/track day a year. Now I have small cam, ported heads and other internal goodies.

I always thought one day as a kid I'd own a 69 or 70 Vette. When the C5 came along, everything else paled in comparison. I have a 2001 6 speed. It's by FAR my most favorite car I have ever owned. Inside and out. Just amazing!!!

I’m 21 and can finally afford to own a sports car and I wouldn’t settle for less than a corvette. Even now in 2020 the c5 is most definitely still a technologicaly advanced sports car. Looking at a 2001 coupe right now

I was born in 1997, and I was about 12 when my uncle bought a 97 Corvette to teach me how to drive. Thought this car was meant for me and have loved Corvettes ever since. I drive a Silverado but I'm planning after retirement to get me a 97 Vette. Don't care that'll be another 20 to 30 years, forever a Vette man. Thank you Chevy for bringing a god to earth.

This was the first car I saw as a kid and recognized because of Need for Speed videogame. I said to myself I will own this car someday. Gladly, my dream came true 3 years ago. Love the C5 Corvette.

Great video, Wil Cooksey definitely earned his own commemorative edition in 2008, I think his 15 seconds was the best part of the whole video, great pride!!!

They had everything right with the C5 platform & still to this day looks & best bang for the buck not saying the other generations aren’t nice , but C5 is that special generation where the horsepower stepped up 💯🇺🇸

I love my triple black 2004 convertible!

My red on red 6 spd just turned 20 and she looks and runs like she just rolled off the line at Bowling Green. I've put about 50k on her in 6 yrs of ownership and the only mx I've done is an oil pressure sensor replacement. Cost $15 and took 4 hours to replace. The car always gets 30+ mpg around town and I've seen as high as 33.7 mpg on the highway. Amazing engineering!

Very interesting video. I learned quite a few things about the C5 Corvette. Now, I just want to learn more about the C5 such as the actual efficiency of the engine cooling system while driving downtown at high temperature.

2004 black on black z06, just turned 25,000 miles. 405 hp. they only made these for two years. i plan on keeping this gem for a long long time

2001 Z06 was 385 HP, 2002, 2003 & 2004 all had 405 HP I believe.

I never really was interested in having a Corvette in the past, then one day I saw a very nice clean 94, something about it that particular day, I have no idea. I started thinking about getting one. Once I started looking at them and seeing how affordable they actually were, drove a few was totally impressed at how they drove. Its a very refined car, but even with all the styling, gadgets and technology that went into, it still has the feel of the 60s muscle car. I just bought a 1996 LT4, Z51 package Corvette. It's not perfect, its a 20 year old car that has been used but not abused, but with all the available parts to restore and improve performance, I can fix it in a manner that suits my taste and what I expect out of it without having to do a 100% rebuild. I love driving it, I'm enjoying working on it and anticipating what the final car is going to be like.

I now what you mean, something just clicks with you and it all makes sense. I almost bought a black '85 auto coupe for $7500 a few years back. Sat inside and it all just felt perfect. It's a different kind of perfect though- my main love is '79-'94 Ford panther platform cars. Different flavor of the same necessary project car cocktail. You can easily build these older Corvettes to go faster, stop faster, handle better. Even just a good set of sporting tires will do them a lot of good. Buddy of mine has a '93 convertible.... even if it's just a 4 speed auto that thing still goes pretty good. I'm betting your 6M Z51 drives like a beast.

That late C4 of yours is basically an affordable exotic. 5 link independent rear suspension (all suspension components forged aluminum), transverse fiberglass leafs, reverse clambshell hood, big tires (285/rear, 255/front), V8 power with reverse flow cooling, aluminum heads, roller cam, and sequential port injection, longitudinal spine from trans to rear diff (direct from Lotus), targa top, 13s in 1/4 stock.....incredibly trick design. Plus the late C4s are the last sexy Corvette (low, long, lean, curvaceous). Newer Vettes are big and muscular, but they arent sexy and sleek like a late C4. Great cars the C4s and their value is climbing fast now.

Love my 95 Corvette. I had a 85 and 87 but I think the late c4s are the best. I may in the minority but c4 is my favorite one. Hate the new ones.

C5 is the most timeless Corvette. 50 years from now it will still be beautiful while the C6 and C7 will be more divisive designs.

My 1998 Torch Red on Black interior has 188,000 miles on it!! Best driving car I've ever owned...no issues at all except for normal 22yr old car issues...example: weatherstripping..bout all!! Love my C5!!

My 20 mile country drive to work every day is the best part of the work day. So happy with this ‘04 C5 Lemans Blue Commemorative 6 speed coupe! Then, I get to drive it home and everywhere I want to go. It is a truly fantastic daily driver 👍 long live the corvette!

The C-5 took the Corvette out of the smog-control dark ages....I drive the 2004 Commemorative edition ragtop....I will have this car till the day that I die....this video shows the multiple technological advancements that make it special...

34% fewer parts in an INCREDIBLE engineering feet. All these improvements and a reduction? WOW!!!

C5 is a classic..it still looks great today in 2020. The interior gets a lot of flack..but for it's time it looks great.

A Cup Holder : / Come on. This is a Racecar and not a Cadillac or a Mercedes. In Cars like this you dont eat, dont drink and dont smoke. You just drive them. And when you wanne do something different you can stop.

Mine works fine keep a stop watch in it seriously it holds a micky d medium coffee just fine a foam huggie for cans and bottles and i hear the new Toyota minivan has 11 cup holders in it haha

I live only a couple miles from where the desert GM Proving Grounds was in that video. Sadly, it's been gone for a number of years now only to make room for more houses and retail 😢. I absolutely love our 01 convertible. Still one of the best looking Corvettes ever designed.

No other car has each of its generation of sports cars this good looking and combined with perfornance and price ..nothing touches it.

To be honest, they should have kept the round taillights for the C7 and C8. To me, that is unique and honors the Corvette legacy.

I do think the C5 was the most groundbreaking and the best looking car. I love the C6. The C7 and C8 are great cars but not as attractive. I do love them as well. It just takes time to love them. I need to drive the C8.

Exactly why I got a C5. Could of got a C6 or maybe a C7 but nope, C5 just looks better to me personally. Love my 04 vert in Millennium Yellow.

I have an LS1 out of one of these in my truck it's got the harmonic balancer with the weights and the oil pan. I'm doing the Fitech Texas Speed to er.

Had a 1985 Black Corvette coupe in 1990 always wanted a Red Convertible 2004 which I got July 5th 2022 Torch Red Black top Black interior took 30 years to get back in a Vette but well worth it
