C.K. tries a Daxiongmao 8898 solder/hot air SMD rework station

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Another really inexpensive hot air/solder station, this onefrom Daxiongmao, their 8898, came in at US$39.
It's OK, with one real potential safety issue. The soldering iron is not very good, but the air gun is OK with added variable airflow, which is nice.
So it's OK for $39 with this big caveat;
The cables for the iron and air gun are NOT high temp silicon. They are low temp, brushing the iron against them will melt them. Inadvertently setting the iron down on the cable would melt through it creating a shock risk or potential fire hazard. For that reason I cannot recommend this one.
I did tear it all down in the last segment.

    I appreciate your video. I just ordered this one as it is the best I can get for now. I'll save up for a better unit.

    Thank you. And it should be good for you, just spend some time practicing on scrap circuit boards to get a feel for it.

    Very much appreciate your clear and honest look at this incredibly prolific unit. The price seemed a bit too good to be true. Seems you get what you pay for, but perhaps better off with a $10 stand alone iron with temp control and a $20 hot air gun instead of this "station". Would love to see you review the Bakon 881 two in one station. it is twice the cost of this unit but seems more capable and an excellent value, yet there are not real reviews for it anywhere. Thank you!

    Thanks for the kind words. I'll get a Bakon on order and put it through its paces. However, it will be at least a month until I can get it on the schedule, so pleas hang tight!

    @@CKHaunWow! Look forward to it. FWIW i think the Bakon 881 is the same as a Toauto DS882. At least they look identical on the outside. My hesitation in buying one is the lack of reviews and the unusual 600M tips (vs the 900M tips used by most everyone). Despite their limited availability they are on aliexpress for cheap. Thank you!

    Playing with new gear is my addiction. And sub US$100 gear is the funniest, my social security check pays for that ;). Again, be a little patient on this one, probably be the 1st week in May.

    Greetings, would you do me the favor of obtaining the value of R46 on the thin plate (the one with the soldering iron and heat gun connectors), it just exploded, and I can't read the value.

    @uriellopezgutierrez4436 Unfortunately there are two problems; (1) I'm away from my workshop for 3 weeks and (2) I think I threw it all in the trash, so I cannot help you on this one.

    Just bought one of these for $30, arriving tomorrow. Do you think I could do GPU repairs with one of these reliably? I mostly needed it for the hot air gun but the soldering iron is a nice addition I guess.

    I think it will work, but i’d practice on a junk board first if you have one available. You don’t want to heat the GPU chip too much, so you’ll need to work the pins up off the sides one by one. Not too bad, I pulled a 64 pin chip off an old Bose sound board the other day and it went fine. Just aim at the pins and pull slowly. And as I mention in the vid, high air flow rate works best.

    @devinguerrero8728 Turn off the unit. Hold the up and down buttons down and turn power on. An 'F' or 'C' will flash. Use the 'Up' arrow to select which one you want. Leave it alone for a few seconds and it will accept that choice.

    I was being sarcastic in the first phrase of that reply. Obviously I care a lot about safety, which is why I tested the power cable for its melting point to begin with, and cannot recommend this unit because the cord is not high-temp silicon. Sorry for the confusion.
