C.K. builds a cheap Geiger counter kit
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
A geiger counter kit, unfortunately looks like I bought the last one, it's now unavailable on Amazon.
Very minimal (or no) instructions, have to build from the parts list. One resistor position jumped, undocumented. But an easy build once you have it figured out.
Electrically worked fine, LEDs lit up and good voltages across the board, but no activity when I put my radiation source directly on it.
Wouldn't recommend even if you could buy it.

I bought one of these as well, and mine also was missing any circuit diagram. I haven't built it yet but I'll be, (trying to..), follow the components on an online photo of this unit that's already built. I have to say that selling a kit without _any _components list or diagram is ASININE. I'm not at all surprised that the kit is no longer on sale. Only when I'm totally confident that I know what goes where, will I be building this. I hope you eventually had success with this.

Yes, irritating. I’m at the point of not purchasing things unless I can preview the paperwork that accompanies.
it don´t work because the j4 jumper marked as test aren´t shorted. It's needed to conduct high voltage to the tube

@allhobbyst Ah ha! I'm back in the U.S. in two weeks and I'll give that a try.

@@CKHaun Please change the description of this video to reflect the results. 40 min is a big time investment for someone interested in doing this. I'm sure you can find a way to get people to watch it without a huge disappointment 40 mins in. There are a million ways to clickbait a title while respecting people's time.
A fun kit to build, thanks, even though it didn't quite work out. I have one that works well. As a source, i bought a small bowl of vintage red/orange Fiestaware ceramic for 5 bucks off Ebay. Very effective. Thanks for the video.

Glad you got yours to work! I'm going to try another in a month or so (I'm booked ahead on kits through February) and see if I can get one going.
The led (bottom left D23) is supposed to blink with each activation - yours is permanently lit - so possibly a circuit issue. Also, I think the tube voltage shold be around 400v so that may also be an issue also. They do work well if you get a good one :)

Yeah, I’ll try another one in the next few months, we’ll see.
I saw what looked like a URL printed on the board where the tube goes. Is that the same URL you tried before? Also, it looks to me like the stand offs go on the bottom of the board and then connect to the clear plastic. This will elevate the board from whatever it is sitting on. It is like a motherboard in a desktop computer is elevated from the computer case. I believe the tube you have is available if yours are bad. Have you given up completely on this unit?

@theauricongroup I have not gone back to this one in depth yet. However, I did swap the tube with a known good tube from another Geiger I have, and it still did not work, so I’m questioning the circuit. I’ll get around to it some time….
Thank you for posting this, albeit you have faced difficulties. I really want to build one of these. I have to find a good source, I think.

I will be trying another one (a little more expensive) in the next few weeks, watch for that.
I don't really want to post another channel on here, but there are some other calibration instructions here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/daup0LSvgq3Ynqg.html Hope that helps. (Delete this if you want to remove)

Thanks, I'll take a look As I mentioned a bit ago I'n going to build a more expensive geiger kit in the next few weeks, we'll see how that works out. And no worries about posting other links! The only ones I remove are those that are simply selling something and not adding value to the video the one adds value.
Mighty Ohm has an open source Geiger counter kit for sale. You might try building that one next. Also, you might try its Geiger-Muller tube with this one 😉

I'll give another one a try. I did (off carmera) switch the tube from my working counter to this one, didn't fix it.
Did this geigercounter gets destroyed? My Geigercounterplat has a destroyed LED? Do you have the same problem? Sorry for my bad English, I am from Germany
@CKHaun

Your English is better than my German! It did not get destroyed, just didn't work. I did check continuity on the tube, and it's fine, so it must be something else. I will be building another model in a few weeks, stay tuned.
You have soldered multiple components wrong. Did you follow the instructions?

@@CKHaun IC2 should be NE555 and U80 should be LM358. R34 can be left open. I reccomend soldering pins to J1 and J4. Before connecting the tube, turn the potentiometer until it's at 50 ohms, then short the J4 pins together, power the board and measure the voltage between ground and J2. Turn the potentiometer until it's at 57 volts. You can now remove the J4 short and connect the tube. If J1 is shorted, the buzzer will click. Without it only the D23 LED will pulse. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions
