Bye Bye Blackbird (bassless backing track)

Another bass-less track brought to you by Bassless Backing Tracks. Please like, comment and subscribe if you found this video helpful!
Bye Bye Blackbird is a very well-known jazz standard penned in 1926 by Ray Henderson. It actually has a pretty interesting history, having been covered not just by great jazz artists like Chet Baker and John Coltrane, but was also appropriated by the Nazi-sponsored propaganda band "Charlie and his Orchestra" (with suitably altered anti-American/British lyrics). Anyway, you didn't come here for a history lesson. Good practicing!

It's tracks like these that have been introducing me to playing jazz. I could never understand it and didn't know where to start. These bassless tracks are opening a whole new world to me. Thank you.

i love these tracks and use them a lot. I am having trouble understanding the meaning of the heavy bars. do they just denote the end of an 8 bar passage?

Hello, and thank you very much! :-) Are you referring to the double bar lines? If so, they are used to denote the end of a section of the tune (e.g. the end of the "A" section, just before the "B" section starts). In fact, the final 8 bars of this particular tune should be labelled "A", as the B section ends at the second lot of double bar lines - apologies for that! We'll get that fixed with an annotation. Generally speaking, the end of the section is a good place for a bass player and/or drummer to do a fill (although it can sound a little messy if you both try to do too much, so watch out for that!)

Unfortunately, KZread disabled video annotations earlier this month so we can't add the final "A" section :-( But glad to help, and happy bassing!

That might be quite ambitious, but if you have any requests we'll certainly consider them!
