Many people have said that it resembles a gen 2 horse, and it’s because the animations were definitely based off of the trakehener..the stiff back legs in the walk, trot and canter are very similar. The head carriage in the walk is from the Lusitano too

I honestly think their based on the gen2 hannivaton (however you spell it, I spell it differently every time I swear). This is Bc I’d the walk and the gallop. I don’t see much of the treckner as they have- idk- I haven’t seen their animations in FOREVER though- so idk, maybe some taken off that?

I deeply care about the accuracy of the horses 😅, my mum keeps telling me im being too picky when i complain about horses looking like theyve been put in a false frame or having incorrect biomechanics or stress/pain behaviours in games but im really passionate about horse welfare and the fact equine pain is becoming more normalised. In the spoilers i think they looked like they had improperly developed toplines and extremely long backs but i think theyve adjusted that because they look a lot better here

Honestly really love this horse, but the fast gallop kinda reminds me of how a dog runs lol xD

naw girl u ain’t reading in to it too much that fast gallop is just… not good. it looks like the legs are all scrunched up underneath the body. i can barely explain it, but it put me off so bad when i was trying the gaits out in game myself 😭

The faster gallop is just not it like the back legs like shrink down and front legs are just all over the place they don’t look right and neither does the rear end at all in the faster gallop. I honestly was so excited for them but when I seen the gallop and the stiffness in the walk and trot in the back legs I just couldn’t buy one. so I’ve decided to wait a little and go back and have a look at them again

I think the gallop is choppy. I think that’s kinda the word you were looking for. It’s not the worst but the legs and the body don’t really match. The legs are striking fast and hard and mismatched, while the body is going in long slower powerful movements.

First off, happy birthday to your sister! Planning on getting the sooty buckskin. I love all of the gaits but that full gallop 😭 but when you mentioned that it looked better going uphill, it makes a LOT more sense!

The fast gallop looks like a deer running in panic. As a former rider, and a French one on top of it, I’m very used to Selle Français. They are one of the most common horse breed here. To be honest, I expected a lot from SSO and I’m a bit disappointed. Selle Français are not only championship horses, and I agree with you on the excessive part of it all. You won’t see it like this IRL… not to that extent.

Rainly v3 is so freaking adorable! I can't wait to get one too, warmbloods are amazing, I own 3 dwb and a bwb so like- Also, happy late birthday to your sister!

In my opinion they are VERY detailed and VERY Beautiful horses. I am not a person who records roleplays I mostly make edits so I have no experience in video game creating and animating. The gallop is a little much it kinda looks like it’s running in fear but agian I mostly buy the horse after how nice it looks. If it’s one thing that’s bothering me for ex. The gallop, I will most likely still buy the horse. In conclusion I think the Selle Francis is a HUGE step up from the past horses and Star Stable has improved a LOT on anamating horses. :) pls excuse my spelling and grammar mistakes :)

looooong reply Walk - the hindlegs looks stiff in the walk because the the fetlock joint does not flex and flick the hoof back, nor does the hoof make contact with the ground for long enough. If you look at it side by side from any horse walking you'll see the hoof hit the ground, the body pushes forward, the leg picks itself up again when there's a stretch from tibia -> hock -> fetlock, the fetlock then picks up and the hoof flicks back a little, then returns into the track of the front leg. For this animation, this means the leg looks like it never fully reaches. The leg looks stiff. Another subtle detail is that when the hoof strikes the ground, the fetlock doesn't immediately flex. It happens about a half second after, creating even more stiffness. Trot - not bad! Again, could use a bit more time on the ground from the hindlegs but it's actually not bad. The lack of movement in the neck seems to come more from a lack of swing in the shoulders. I like the head carriage, it's by no means vertical but it's a natural head carriage. The horse isn't very round over the back though. Canter - same as the trot. Just not a lot of swing in the shoulder which makes the upper body looks a little stiff but the leg track is nice. I would say that the left hind leg could track forward more, it is stiff like in the walk. Extended canter - bleh, it's fine for a cross country thing. Honestly, this should've been the gallop animation though. The neck and head position indicates a full effort gallop. Gallop - bro... The anatomy of the legs are not anatomying. The entire hip area is circling like a ceiling fan? It's a bit odd. It looks like an older animation to be honest. Same problem with all the other gaits, no upper body swing or muscle action, it's all in the legs which are just not working very well. It's certainly not a terrible horse. I like the colours and the gaits are cute up until gallop! Seeing as most people are galloping around the map, it's just a bit disappointing that it's not satisfactory.

It looks like it’s galloping uphill and really tucks the back end under in the gallop! And the front legs looks like they are doing a small jump! Why so high compared to the back end?!

I love the model, the idle animation in the buying window feels realistic, the extended canter I like but wish it was the gallop instead of that monstrosity - Everything else is stiff and awkward. So disappointing. Bleh.

OMG you’re the first person who actually calls the Exctended Canter by the proper name. Everyone else calls it a slow gallop, but they’re all wrong because when you slow a video down of someone in that gait you can see that it is actually a 3 beat gait not a 4 beat one. So for example this horse is on the left lead so in the extended canter beat 1 is the back right, beat 2 is the diagonal of the back left and the front right, and beat 3 is the front left. Since it’s a 3 beat gait it is an extended canter not a slow gallop. You can also apply this knowledge to any other horse breed in the game, they’ll just be on different leads for some of them, but it’ll still be a 3 beat gait. Also I agree that the gallop looks odd, especially the front legs. It looks to me that the front legs bend to far at the knee when the horse brings them back. Maybe if they weren’t held so tight and made slightly looser then it would look a bit more natural. I also agree that it didn’t look weird when you ran up the hill.

What I've seen in the gallop is the horse isn't extending its following front leg. It stays bent which seems to be where the "shrinkage" comes from. If you slow-mo cross country horses galloping you can see that full extension through the shoulder and knee in the front leg:)

definitely not reading too much or being mean about the gallop. Everything about it is weird, the legs are flying everywhere. It looks scary and frantic, that’s not a horse that’s a demon fighting to come out of a horse.

I actually have a horse that looks exactly like new Rainly, so its great to find a horse that is "mine" in Star Stable

Funny I love the gaits on this horse. xD The gallop in particular looks like the horse is actually engaging its body while running. The fast gallop is okay, I just feel like the front legs are bending a bit too much but not bad. Overall I find the gaits a lot better than most Gen 3s. The Belgian, Dutch and SF are by far my favorites in regards to their gaits!

i'm gonna be real i saw someone running around on a selle francais and. i genuinely thought i was looking at a gen2/early gen3 horse from far away. the movements were a bit choppy? still super cute tho!

I agree with u on the gallop and the legs. It gives the impression that the horse is moving really fast when it’s really not😭 and the legs do look a tad bit crooked to me while it’s galloping, but other than that, I kinda like them

The Selle Francais breed failed the jump landing test for me, I always test out what each horse looks like when they land from a jump… At the canter jump the front hooves sink into the ground, and at a gallop jump the front hooves land (make impact) in the air. Maybe it’s just me who cares about this, but I feel like pointing out these sort of animation mistakes should be pointed out. One of the reasons I love the Lippy’s sm is because their jump landing isn’t ruined!

I am kinda sad rainly will be replaced but also it makes sense as he is out of box rest therefore less chonky (also the gallop is weird😭)

I actually like tha gallop. I personally think its the trot, walk, and canter that look off, but thats just me. I like that the gallop is pretty extended, someone else here or on reddit compared it to the TWH and I agree. The back end is bad in all the gaits though.

The fast gallop looks like the horse is really digging its legs into the ground, the walk, trot, canter look really stiff like the horse is being over collected or is just unsure of its steps

I bought one, but the fast gallop is really bad It’s the front legs snap, if you look at it in the buying window- it looks like a gif 🥲 Also my news wasn’t loading so I had to look up where everything was and what would happen 😭 Also I can’t be the only one who saw the fleabitten and went “she’s gonna make it rainly”

The hind legs Definitely have some kind of problem in all of the gaits tbh. Talking about the gallop though, in slow motion the front legs bend too far in and the knee is also very bent upwards and it just looks uncomfortable. I can see this when you were in photo mode. 😖

i actually think the worst offender in the gallop is the back legs. horses stretch their legs pretty straight and far back when in full speed gallop, and the selle francais seems to lack these frames where the back legs are fully extended. this causes the front legs to look more messed up than what they actually are, because the front and back aren't in sync because of a crucial frame lacking. i compared the gallop to the new (gen 3?) arabian and unlike the selle, the arabian extends both its back legs in a quite extreme manner (like real horses do). selle *does* have some extending, but it does not go for both the legs and is not as extreme as i think it should be. so i think that alone messes up the pacing. couple that with the extreme head bobbing, it just feels like the horse is spazzing out while not really doing anything productive. also it does seem like the front legs get shorter in the fast gallop?

I've never really been a huge fan of chestnuts but the chestnut paint selle francias really stuck out to me and I name him cashbox as a joke because and I was annoyed that day so I brought the horse to cheer myself up.

i started laughing so hard when i saw that gallop 😂😂😭 but i think their gates remind me of the Trakehners (idk if they have another name in english 🙃)

Excuse my lack of horsey knowledge but in the fast gallop the horse looks like its more focused on stomping on the ground full force instead of going forward lmao. How did noone at sso look at it and think it had to be redone. I hope theyll fix it like they did a lot of other horses

Girl at 9:06 you called that a canter (I wouldnt even call that an extended canter, extended canters are still way more collected, you can look it up here on KZread if you dont own a horse)....the canter was before that, that is def a gallop then the gait after is a faster gallop. The trot and the canter both look wrong on this horse so it shocks me that some are saying its nice. The issue is the trot and canter on this horse are collected at the neck....then when you look at the legs, they dont lift enough....the trot and canter looks very similar to the Mustang (it works on the mustang because it is meant to be a more relaxed trot and lope) this horse is meant as a dressage/jumper......that is not how horses in this disciplines trot or canter and certainly not when the neck is pulled in and collected. The normal gallop and faster gallop actually look correct, EXCEPT in the fast gallop the hind end is bizarre and the butt wiggles a ton from the back which is not how horses move. Both gallops though (at least the front end) look actually pretty good.....the neck should extend at the gallop......the head should push forward. Those of us who own horses and have ridden for decades can see it pretty easily. I think the issue is that a lot of people have opinions on horse movement that dont actually ride and own horses and it can be frustrating because they will criticize movements that are actually close to correct and praise other animations that look way off. Oh and just to be clear, its totally cool that we disagree on the animations, I actually usually agree with your takes on the animations, just not this time lol. Still great video as always.

i rode for 15 years and still currently have a horse. i don’t ride anymore because i got a brain injury from riding. i have prior knowledge so your comment is coming off passive aggressive LOL 😭. if that wasn’t your intention then correct me, i just woke up and I can’t tell my left from my right rn 😭 i never said anything about the accuracy of the gallop, & i stated in the beginning of the video that i looked at these horses from both a breed accuracy standpoint & a quality standpoint because im in schoole for game design. while the the gallop may be accurate to an actual horse like you said, i never denied that, it still doesn’t help the fact that it’s a mess. it’s jolting, missing frames, the front legs are shrinking & off beat & it really only fits in the setting i showed at the end of the video. as for your first point, 9/10 times these horses (look at bwb , dwb, & etb) have gone from a canter to the next gait representing something similar to an extended canter/nearing a gallop, sso has even said that themselves before. i was just shocked it went from such subtle canter to a gait that looked so intense. i don’t know much about the selle francais, that’s why i said i was coming at this review from two different directions. i appreciate your comment but i feel like it could’ve been worded better LOL Edit: I wrote this comment before you edited yours OOF lmao thank you for doing that. sorry if my response was too aggressive too im just so tired rn 💀 it definitely fine to disagree, im not disagreeing with you at all btw !! i totally understand everything you said i just don’t think people really understand what i was trying to get at 💀

I havent read your whole comment yet (still currently reading), but I wanted to comment first that it wasnt passive aggressive at all (I know text can come off that way as there is no tone). Im a little confused about what you state in your comment though. You say you rode for 15 years, but didnt you say you say you were 20? Im a little confused on how you could have ridden for 15 years and you claim you stopped a while ago due to an injury, if you are only 20? In the Q and A with your boyfriend you said you were in 8th grade in 2017 which would make you 20.......I also thought you said youve taken lessons on a horse before, but you dont own one? Although I may be wrong about that part so please correct me if Im wrong. That being said Im so sorry about your injury, riding is so dangerous and can be fun, but terrifying at the same time. I do want to also say, I clearly stated in my original comment that I agree with your takes 90 percent of the time, I just didnt this particular time, which is fine. @@TheBakingSlave loose estimate, i was on horses from pretty much the time i could walk because my aunt owned a barn. i stopped riding in 2020 (pandemic gave me an excuse bc I healed during it and just decided to never go back fully) i quit on and off during middle school, so yes 8th grade but i inevitably went back my freshmen year. I fully quit showing & IEA when I was in 8th grade so that’s probably what I meant. i bought a horse from my trainer in 2019 & he’s leased out currently. i post pictures of him on instagram sometimes. I’m also 21 now lol. if i ever decided to go back he’ll be there. i rode lesson horses pretty much all my life aside from a few ponies i owned when i was younger.

Ah ok, I hope you do get back to riding, I know how hard it can be when you have an injury and either cant get back on due to healing or just arent ready. My husband and I own land and a few horses so its always nice to be able to ride without boarding (I boarded my horses through high school and college and it got so expensive lol). We were lucky to buy land in like 2012 since right now housing is so crazy expensive. I hope you are fully healed from your injury and can get back to riding soon, Im sure you miss it tons.@@AmeliaDreambell

SSO is *so* capable of making accurate horses (look at the mustang, the APH, the Shire, ETC) then they pop out these. Are they studying lame horses or something? EDIT: Regards to 11:27, I’ve noticed that in this game - horses with lighter coats tend to reveal more of the flaws in the animation. The darker coats hide it.

The cannon bone of the hind legs looks bent, like a bent spoon. It looks weird.

i’d like to say, i hate this horse as much as i hate the Gen3 freezy. It moves way to damn much for me, i was looking at them and i hate everything about them besides the coats. they’re not bad looking besides the body and animations. But they have really good heads on them i will say. their heads are my favorite thing on them😭😭

You have to give honest reviews. If sso didn’t like what I was saying, they wouldn’t have made me on of their partners / affiliates.
