The roses you picked are beautiful and I really like how Green Acres has potted them up for you. I have many roses and some are in containers and some in the ground. Since I have so much rock in my garden, a lot of mine are in containers and I do shift them around as needed. I have not grown any that you have on your list. Bliss Parfuma is a wonderful rose and has bloomed for me even during last summer's heat wave here in Texas. I bought it at the Antique Rose Emporium in Brenham which is worth a visit in spring. The gardens are beautiful.

Charlene de monaco is a gorgeous and fragrant rose. Earth Angel is also a beautiful rose. I have Julia Child in a container and while pretty, I do not detect much fragrance compared to the former two. I have to grow most in containers due to limited space but they need to be planted in fairly large containers such as 20"-24" diameter by maybe 20" deep. So far it appears my 12 roses in containers survived the freeze here in my area of Houston which got down to 20 degrees. No leaves have dropped so far. Of course I'll be monitoring them over the next couple of weeks to see if that changes. By the way, these roses were only planted in October, so young. I lost all 17 grafted roses I purchased last May from local garden centers to our horrible summer. Because of this, I only purchase "on own root" roses and buy them from Antique Rose Emporium in Brenham. Also, prior to the freeze, I sprayed them with the Microlife Ocean Harvest which is a seaweed based organic concoction. Then watered them with seaweed and SuperThrive as recommended. Hope this helps.

Yes, own root stock is much more hardy and also much more expensive … but sounds like it is worth it if you lost 17!

@wendy5006 I lost 10 roses to our summer as well :( I planted them two years ago early spring although I suspect quite a few of my roses had rossette virus because a few of them showed some of the virus characteristic symptoms and so they weren’t healthy enough to withstand the crazy summer last year. I’m trying to learn more about roses and their care since I love them and would love to be able to have them in my garden, I think I have to keep them in pots to better control the elements, I’m in the northern Houston area, the woodlands and I’m not sure wether is the high humidity plus the intense summer heat that makes it so difficult to keep roses healthy and thriving or the clay heavy soil but it is a challenge for sure. I still have a couple of roses on the ground, one iceberg and one hybrid tea rose that are holding on but they’re struggling with black spot and also were attacked by beetles this past summer; I sprayed them with a mix of peppermint and tea tree oil Castile soap, oil, hydrogen peroxide and water and that helped a bit so I’m waiting to see if they’ll recover or if I’ll need to take them out. I still haven’t made it to Antique Rose Emporium and that’s definitely on my list this season, I just don’t want to give up trying to grow healthy roses 😅 When you say you spray your roses with the micro life ocean harvest you mean you used it as a foliar spray, right? Would you mind sharing what dilution you spray your roses with and how often that can be done? I really need to go to Rose Emporium and pick some varieties that will do better in my area and hopefully learn a few tips from them 😊

apologies for the late comeback reply. I'm definitely a novice rose grower. I joined the Houston Rose Society just to watch the online meetings and get their newsletter. You can spray the Micro Life Ocean Harvest every week if you want to. It helps strengthen the plant tissue to resist diseases. It's sprayed at a dilution of 2 oz/gal. It should be sprayed when it's not going to rain, so maybe for 24 hrs. Right now, rossarians are spraying with either Neen (does triple job-fungicide/bactericide/insecticide or a combo of copper spray (2 oz) with All Seasons Dormant Spray oil ( 2-1/2 tbls). The copper and Dormant oil can be mixed together and sprayed. I recently sprayed the copper/oil combo. I plan on spraying and my roses with the Ocean Harvest next week again. I watching the weather for tomorrow Saturday 2/10 as Enchanted gardens has a seminar on roses presented by Marie Jenkins who is the manager at Antique Rose Emporium. Hopefully it won't be rained out.

@wendy5006 thank you so much for your reply, I did joined the Houston Rose Society a while ago as well but got busy with so many things and didn’t keep up with the membership, I will renew my membership as I know they do have great information in their online meetings. I’m just reading your comment two days after because for some reason the notification went to my spam folder :( but I would’ve loved to attend that seminar by Marie Jenkins, although we got rained out here in the woodlands pretty much the whole day Saturday

Good morning Amanda, Julia Child has been one of my best roses out of 50+ for several yrs. It is incredibly beautiful, smells great and is a prolific bloomer. It was my favorite until last yr when Gabriel Oak showed up and stole the show! 95% of my roses are own root and since they often start out smaller, I plant them in a large pot for a yr or two until I see how they perform. If all goes well, the ones not suited for pots will be planted in the ground. I do have a lot of big pots mixed in with my landscape, I love the way that looks. I have experience with some of the roses on your list; Cinco de Mayo is gorgeous but very thorny, Iceburg is prolific, beautiful, dependable. Altissimo was one of my favs but give it room, it can get huge! Mister Lincoln and Don Juan are both incredible, the rose petals look like velvet. They were both planted last yr so not quite up to speed yet. Funny, I have been tempted by Eden but decided against it since it's a repeat bloomer not a continual bloomer, I go for the latter. Iam keeping an eye on your America climber, it is on my short list. btw, I am in Ca. zone 9a, formerly 9b. hot/dry July, Aug, Sept. we never go below 20 degrees in winter.

Great idea so you can move them around your garden. I have knock out roses. I have 2 bare root roses that I bought a few years ago on the clearance rack for a 1.50 each, but can’t remember there names, but they are beautiful, fragrant and rebloomers.

What I do is when I see something perennial at the garden center that I think I can’t live without, I do a mini-class with myself on the spot. I can usually find at least some user feedback about whatever I’m looking at. It helps me TRY to not buy zone 3 plants for my zone 9 garden. 😅

I got "Garden Party" from Aldi about three years ago as a bareroot for $6--one of its parents is "Peace" and mine honestly looks exactly like "Peace" and not like "Charlotte Armstrong". I had very low expectations but it is a really beautiful rose! It bloomed the first year (planted in the late spring) but in subsequent years it has bloomed more and the flowers are bigger with almost english rose type petals. It smells amazing, too. Maybe keep your eye out.

Years ago I had Mister Lincoln and Chrysler Imperial red tea roses. They were both beautiful and had the most amazing fragrance. I'm in zone 4/5 so I had to give them winter protection and eventually they succumbed to the cold, but perhaps where you are they would last. Another rose I really liked is Winchester Cathedral that has an unusual almond fragrance. It's a bushy rose and quite hardy. Iceberg is a tough rose, not large, but pretty classic rose shape flowers. I have a pink Knock-out rose that survives my cold winters and blooms nicely, but no fragrance.

Those are beautiful selections! I got a Julia Child in topiary shape for Mother’s Day from Shades of Green and had it in a pot initially. It didn’t like. I was afraid it would die, so planted it on the ground, amended soil, east side facing with rose tone. Oh my goodness it flourished!! Love, love love it. I think it needed afternoon protection from our scorching summers( I’m in North Plano). FYI, I saw roses at Green Acres last summer that clearly had rose rosette. It looks like the roses you got just got delivered, just keep an eye out for any symptoms.

Those roses you chose are really pretty. I have the best luck with knockout roses. I have real problems with deer eating my plants, so I hate to spend money for David Austen or Heirloom roses. I'm not going to give those pesky critters a chance to eat a beautiful rose. Also I cannot grow Proven Winner roses in my sandy coastal soil. They don't like any spot in my yard, and they just die. @@shesamadgardener I love watching your videos. I learn a lot about gardening in Texas since I’m still new here. Now you got me wanting to “wander around” in green acres lol. But you know how dangerous that can be. I’m trying to get organized and come in with a plan for my new garden areas.

Yep, they have some as well but now always the ones I’m looking for … but I did find 3 at Walmart for $10 each that I’ll be posting about this week!

Best to purchase #1 grade for best results. Sometimes the bargain roses can be problematic. I think $32 is a decent price, very reasonable for good quality.

Ok so here’s the deal. Your Don Juan roses are not finished yet: if you crowd it, you’ll restrict air flow and then invite diseases. You have the absolute right idea to wait another season or two. I have discovered a sopping wet area along my veg garden fence. I cannot and will not plant anything there this season until I figure out how to fix it. I’m 90% sure it’s from my attempt to rid a rock garden of invasive weeds. I used black bags to block out light and water. As soon as I remove them, the drainage should improve. But it’s always best to wait if in doubt. OH and that ZZ plant: in my area, indoor plant NOT the one that you showed us (reddish leaves) a very small one is $24. I’m sure the large reddish ones are the ones that are more expensive.

I thought the price for the ZZ seemed insane but sounds on par with your description.

Sorry if I missed it if you mentioned this: are these own root or grafted roses? I have no experience, just that I planted over 10 own root roses that I got from Heirloom Roses last year in my Hill country lot and I am very excited to see how mine will perform. You have a few on your list that I've got planted, my priority is fragrance, then petal counts and last is color. :) The parfuma is both extremely fragrant as well as full, almost peony like so I like that one very much, I only got 1 bloom that I was able to cut and believe it or not it was last week right before our state got that big freeze! Mine are all in the ground.

Truthfully I don’t ask … my guess is most likely grafted as that is the state of most roses these days …. I think the price would have been much higher if it was original root … what do you think?

Heirloom Roses is where most of my roses come from. They start out smaller but it's worth the wait!

@@shesamadgardener All of mine were less than the prices on your video because I can't buy ANYTHING without a coupon code LOL. The sizes are the same and the plants were well packaged for shipping. You should definitely give them a try if you can't find a particular one that is on your list. So far I am very happy with my purchases, they are very reputable.
