Very helpful tips you've given. We only buy solid wood pieces n in this we've found that some don't realize what solid wood actually is. So have turned items down after arriving at meetings for purchasing.

I heard it fine! I've got a few questions about the etiquette of this whole arena. If you send a deposit and then go to a person's house and decide--for whatever reason--that you don't want the item, do you forfeit the deposit? I assume that you never send payment in full ahead of time in case you get there and find that's it's not really what you wanted?? If something's listed as porch pick-up, and you get there and decide it's not for you, do you just leave, or are you obligated to tell the person? If you have time to answer these questions, I'd really appreciate it.

You don't forfeit the deposit unless they refuse to return it to you. Most people are honest and kind so if you change your mind they will return it. But it is a risk to give someone money without seeing them or the item in person first, which is why I always suggest keeping the deposit low enough that it's not a loss for you if they refuse to return it, but high enough to let them know you're serious. Also, yes if you do a porch pickup and arrive and decide the item isn't for you, it is courteous to communicate that you changed your mind. You shouldn't just ghost someone when you've been communicating with them up until you arrived.
