How easy/hard is it to remove that spare trunk hump? This gaudy stuff doesn't do it for me. I wonder if the paint under it is damaged? Or else it would just need a lid repaint. And that grille cap would have to go as well. I wonder if they had to drill into the hood for that, or if the holes would be covered by replacing the original hood edge trim.

@@bml33 My guess is the car is pretty much shot after adding that crap. This wouldn't be a concern of mine though as I'd never consider buying it anyway, it's been "molested". Most cars like these have seen too many days in da 'hood and you'll find even more issues to contend with.

The glass plastic windshield was a somewhat experimental windshield that GM made standard on it’s Cadillac Seville Elegante in 1984. In Early 85 they made it standard on all Seville models. By the end of 1987 GM ended installation of the windshield on all of its models. The concept was a plastic lining over the glass windshield that was designed to encapsulate the glass fragments in a crash reducing injury to occupants who would come in contact with the flying glass. GM produced roughly 210,000 vehicles with the windshield before halting their use. GM cited high warranty costs and high replacement costs for customers as the reason for ending their use.

In 1982, I was 13 years old. I was crushing hard on this girl in my class at the private school I attended. Every morning before school started we had to stand around outside, so I would make note of the different cars fellow students arrived in. My girl and her sister were brought to school in a two-tone light green over dark green bustleback Seville every morning by their Mom. I remember watching her get out, with her rabbit fur coat on, every morning. I think I loved the car as much as I did her. It was so different looking, but always reminded me of those big 1930s' Sedans with the long hoods and the actual "trunk" in the rear.

Great story, well told! I feel like I can relate to this with a similar story. I'm 3 years older then you and I vividly recall being in Religious Instructions (every Wed I'd leave the Public School and go to a Catholic school for several hours). I had a fondness for Lincolns as a young boy and LOVED the Mark III and Mark IVs. One day in early 1977 when I was 11 it was almost the end of the class/day and I looked out the window as the Moms were lining up parking to pick up their children. I saw a Triple White Mark V pull up and I was in AWE over it! I thought it was the most gorgeous and fancy car I'd ever seen to date. I rushed out to get a better look at it and wouldn't you know it was the Mom of a classmate whom I had a crush on! LOL I made small talk and said Hi to her mom when she got in the car and said "OH NICE CAR by the way" as if I was there for any other reason. When I got home all I could do was talk about this Lincoln to my parents. I said Its definitely a Lincoln and it looks kind of like a Mark IV but it has these three flaps on the side of the front like a shark! LOLOLOL The mind of an 11 year old. That brought me way back. Thanks for the memories. I'm 58 but thankfully am in great health/shape and feel 23 still so I guess that was only 12 years ago right ???

@@jakereal3604 Thanks for sharing your memories as well! My mind is still around 19 yrs old. My mirror tells me the other stuff is way older. As a side note, I think all car guys are the same in some respects. I always identified people by what they drove and could pretty much name every car, in all of my past memories, going all the way back to around 4 years old. Down to year, make, and model. Very strange.

It is one of the last Seville badge to offer bench front seats with a column shifter. When it came to the next model, they were shifting to the bucket seat models leaving the bench as an option. I love column shifter vehicles. The glass is impregnated with a rubberized plastic so that if it is damaged, the glass isn't supposed to shatter into pieces, the glass will shatter, but stay in one piece.

I like those, and its interesting to see one (haven't seen one on the road in a long, long time). Looks like a well cared for example (interior is beautiful). If it was mine, that horrible "Continental kit" would be gone immediately. Looks ridiculous, makes it almost impossible to open the trunk with the key, and puts stress on the trunk shocks. I think I would also ditch that aftermarket grill (its not terrible, but its not great either) and go back to original. Return it to stock, new tires, new headliner, fix a few little bits like the passenger front ashtray, and put her up for sale. Please get rid of that "Continental kit"!!!

Where Is the chassis Number? I have a plate under the windshield, another plate on the left over the left beam, a Number stamp on the right over the right beam. And on the chassis? For me Is important because the Rimini motor division want to punch a new Number called office Number into the trunk and the same behind the rear left wheel. Thanks

The inside of the windshield has a plastic coating . GM thought it was a wise design to keep the windshield from shattering and getting in the eyes of the occupants in a event of an accident. I hated doing a state inspection on them. You need a plastic razor to remove the inspection sticker when changing it. At least you used to here in Texas. Thankfully we don't do stickers for inspection anymore.

Happy 51st Papa Bear! Anthony you really should look up Rare Classic Cars and Automotive History on KZread, the gentleman Adam Wade from Detroit has one of these and has a multi video documentary on this bodystyle including in person interviews with Wayne Kady the man who designed this car personally as well as the beloved Brougham and all the other good Cadillacs. I do not like that continental kit personally, but my 85 Toronado Caliente also has a period aftermarket third taillight! The E Body is definitely tight and short inside compared to the C body! Beautiful car another absolute jewel! Enjoy the weekend! EDIT - I believe adjusted for 2022 inflation these cost somewhere around 100,000 in todays money. Back then a Caprice Classic sedan, or also a C/K Silverado either one equipped with V8 automatic ac power and appearance options was just at 10000 maxed out this was like a 25,000+ car base price.

One of my neighbors had one in gray/silver for many years - they loved that car! At the time I was conflicted on the bustle back - I had preferred the cleaner 1st generation Seville. With the passage of time I now appreciate the unique design although I wish they had done something different with the side trim rather than just having it droop right at the back.

These were really fantastic cars a road great they really did my friend had one and it did not have a fantastic amount of engine power but it was extremely comfortable I used to get the ride in the backseat I feel like a big wheel millionaire it was extremely comfortable and the car was well done all the way around and I also thought it was very sharp

Hi Anthony! Well, first things first. I know, everybody's got an opinion, but, I would remove the god-awful fake spare tire thingy and fill the holes & repaint the trunk lid. Then I'd remove that chrome tailpipe extension and make sure it's an OEM tailpipe - probably with the resonator all one assembly. The grill isn't too over the top so you could leave that I guess. The car is nice otherwise! Supposedly if you treat the car nice and don't beat in it especially when it cold, the 4.1L engine will last and is fairly durable. By 1985 most of the kinks were worked out of them and it's got the latest audio system... I'm saying all this 2:03 into it so I'm gonna get back to you now...

Love it. Keep the grill and the rear tire. All she needs is a sunroof and a vinyl top. Add real wire wheels too.

I rented one of these in the late '80's for a short trip to LA. Wow, such a boulevard cruiser! Full leather interior too. Very slow though--tail end of the malaise era. Styling a bit feminine too. But certainly an icon of the time.

I really love those model Seville even as a kid I thought they looked awesome. From that sticker and highway department study it sounds like laminated glass. A difference being it also had a coating on the inside of the glass not just in the center for strength. I'm thinking something to do with noise possibly. That or they were trying to make it sound more technological. I did come across a highway department survey including 1985 Seville's oddly enough. It seems like that glass was on most Seville's as they mention some in the test group could have had standard glass. BY the look of those ash trays the owner may have kept a small amount of water in them, which was a thing.

Never cared for that style of the Cadillac Seville. Too each his own. That color blue combo was really sharp. You could find it on several different different models from GM. I thought it looked great on the 77-78 Pontiac Grand Prix, Olds 88-98, etc. God Bless you for your passion for these cars. Even though it's not perfect, I feel the 87 Brougham that you and Papa Bear have been resurrecting is a much more stylish and classic
