Paired up a metanium mgl to a st croix legend x 7'4" heavy, and a shimano sustain to a st croix legend elite 7' medium fast action. I love both of these combos. My only combo in this category is a 7'0" MHF St. Croix Legend Elite with a made-in-Japan Daiwa Zillion SV TW. I use it almost strictly for fishing finesse football jigs on 12 lb fluoro. It is probably my favorite technique, so I splurged. Highly recommend it. I have also been unfortunate enough to break one rod and have the reel seat come unglued on a second and St. Croix's awesome warranty has made replacement so easy and affordable. You should certainly keep this warranty in mind if you are considering a St. Croix. The more expensive the rod you buy, the better value the warranty is if something goes wrong. Edit: Also, have you guys ever tried a Phenix rod? I picked up the Composite X14 for magnum deep divers and the 7'7" XH in their Feather line for punching and have been very happy with them. They are a bit more on the moderate side for all actions so if you like St. Croix, the overall feel is very similar.

Some of the links bring you to the model you are talking about but there’s like 5 or 6 different lengths/power. I’m going to get a couple of these and don’t want to end up with a 7’6 rod when you referring to the 6’10 lol.

Enjoy your stuff. Think this series would be better if you did 50, 100, 200, 300 and high end.... for the individual rods and reels... then we can put together our own combos and decide where we want to break the budget. As it is, I go into the 200 and hope to find 100 rods and 100 reels or 400 to find 200 rod and 200 reel...to build my own combo, but they commonly aren't that price. Just a suggestion.

Missile Baits Baby D-Stroyer was the ticket today; perhaps you've heard of it. 🤣 . Some amazing gear in this video; I was kind of surprised it ended up leaning so much to the "finesse" side of things, but I think once you reach this rarified air, increased sensitivity is probably the main reason to reach higher up the ladder, and deeper into the pocket. Nice catch by Matt that things were trending that way early on, and a great call to pivot to some power gear at that moment. We have similar tastes for similar reasons, Matt. Being a braid to leader guy has really kept me away from a lot of Daiwa stuff over the years. It’s not because they’re “lesser” than shimano (I have a daiwa spinning combo and it’s great). But they lean so heavily into their t-wing, etc. I just CAN’T bring myself to pick up a bunch of their casting stuff. I’m thinking about picking up a Zillion this year for straight braid on my toad/light frog rig…simply to get a Daiwa into my rotation and see what they’re like long-term. We’ll see what happens as frog season gets closer… EDIT: Completely agree about the last combo…the NRX853 with an aldebaran is a *stupendous* combo. Mine saw a ridiculous amount of use this year.

Videos where you go in depth into a line of rods/reels and what each action/power are best for would be helpful. I’d love to see that for bassX, mojo, curado rods/reels, slx rods/reels, intenza rods. Also curious to see what you think about 6th sense rods and favorite rods but I know you don’t mention what you don’t like.

Love this weeks Videos. Ya'll hinted that a BFS video was coming, very much interested. Just got a very very very low end BFS reel, going to put it on an existing rod until I figure it out, then upgrade. I use braid to leader on all my spinning gear. I'm having some trouble with the knot going through the rod tip. Maybe mention the guide sizes in your reviews. Maybe show the knot you use. Keep up the good work!!!!!!

The reason diawa doesn't want you throwing braid to leader on that rod is because the knot has been knocking the guide insert out. Well that's 1 reason, I know a guy who works for diawa us, and he told me that's a big reason plus it has also been putting micro fractures in the blank causing them to fail.

I have a NRX+ 852s and a Vanford 2500 bc of y’all recommendations. It has turned me into a rod snob. I pick up a 200-300 rod combo I’m like 😒. Everything is compared to the NRX+. I tell everyone either step up to an Expride B or lose your mind and get a NRX+ and be blown away. Everyone else except Megabass is playing catch up.

The TW site is down this morning….I guess a lot of fishermen are purchasing tackle…….I’m blessed I have been able to purchase some of the high end gear over the years I have fished. That gear really does spoil you. So the new Daiwa Exist didn’t make your lineup this year….I bought a Daiwa luvias Airity (eBay) for hundreds of $$ less than the Exist…I’m very happy with that purchase…it is a great reel. I hope you’ll get to try out the new P5 Destroyer Flyssa next year when it hits the US market….although if you’ve already fallen in love with the NRX+ 901, you may not need to…☺️

I think everyone who has looked into them is wondering just how they compare to the Conquest which I think was one of the rods used for sensitivity comparison testing. I'm sure that a comparison to the NRX+ rods would also be of interest.

When u guys kayak fish, do u tend to use shorter or longer rods? U have less room & are closer to water when standing so that makes me think of using a shorter rods on other hand a longer rods may keep them pinned better with kayaks having less resistance in the water.. What's your thoughts? Nothing like hooking into big striper on a kayak. I just started striper fishing past year sense we moved down to southern SC from southwest Ohio. I haven't gotten anything that big yet but I know 20lb striper isn't no joke. I can't imagine getting into 30+ fish!!!.
