Folks. What do you think? These tires had another 40k miles of life in them! What if you paid $900 for a set of tires and they started breaking belts at 1/2 of their usable life....for no reason! Would ya feel safe? Does treadwear have anything to do with this? What makes it right for a manufacturing issue to adversely affect a consumer? What does treadwear have to do with manufacturing and material issues?

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer when a belt fails it sometimes wads up and makes an big lump in the tread. that's what happened to my Cooper's making them ride like stop signs. The quality of all manufactured items seems to be going downhill. You wouldn't believe the issues I'm having with a new CPAP machine. I have to side with you on this issue,as when you buy a 70k premium tire you expect near 70 k miles with years of no hassle service. Personally I don't care that the tires are supposedly half worn out,the tires didn't meet your expectations and weren't manufactured with due diligence. There once was a slogan, the customer is always right , Companies have forgotten that and deserve all the bad rap they get. Rest assured I will shy away from any thing continental! Sorry for all the people that want to bite you on the ass,but if the same people bought a 70k truck and started coast to coast and it gave it up about Kansas and the dealer said, what the hell did you expect? We'll give you 50 % Off on a new piece of crap, they would be singing a new tune!

When I buy replacement tires, I buy from Michelin. My GM vehicles came new with Goodyear’s but they are too noisy! The Michelin tires are slightly more expensive, however, they last longer and are better quieter tires. I check the tire pressure every month or so.

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer belts can break at any point of life. There is no proof you didn't overload them, didn't overheat them, over pressurise them. If all your tyres malfunctioned on this car but you haven't had any issues with continental on other cars there seem to be a strong correlation that something has happened to the tyres on the car rather than all continental tyres being manufactured incorrectly. 50% for 50% wear is a fair deal for everyone

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Let me phrase it a different way than he did. You used half of the tire's intended usable service life. They are offering you replacement tires at half price to reflect that. To put it into numbers, let's say you paid 200 bucks per tire(don't get too hung up on specific numbers, this is just an example number and the math works out no matter what price you put on the tire). You should expect to get 200 bucks worth of usable service life out of the tire(based on the fact that you paid 200 bucks per tire). You already got 100 dollars of use out of this one(based on getting half the intended usable service life from it). Now, they are offering to get you replacements for 100 bucks each. If you get what was intended to be 200 bucks worth of use out of these(that you will only be paying 100 bucks for), you will be at 300 bucks of total cost per corner on the car, and have gotten 300 bucks of use on each corner. Seems pretty fair to me. Sure, it would be a lot better if nothing ever broke, but we don't live in a perfect world. Things go wrong, and with you having a couple years on the tires, I think they are being pretty fair with you on the deal, especially considering they don't know your driving habits, the roads you drive on(maybe you drive on pristine roads, or maybe the roads around you are like here where there are potholes that could almost swallow an elephant), if you take the vehicle off road where additional damage can be caused, if you overloaded the tires, or if your vehicle is properly maintained or if it had an issue that could have caused the failure. Obviously, everybody in your case would be happier if they got free replacements, but that doesn't always happen. They are offering you a deal that, if you accept it, should give you a total usage that reflects your total investment in purchasing the products.

The dealer I went to said he is not going to carry this brand anymore. The dealer too is loosing money and customers. The dealer called on speaker phone and was treated very bad while I listened. Continental Tire company didn't care about their dealer or the customer. I filed a case with our state Attorney General well over a year now. To date nothing has been settled. The tire company that went to sold me four tires at their cost and mounted and balance for free. I will always be grateful and tell everyone in our area about this dealer. Just buy the best deal and when one fails just replace it. Shouldn't have to be that way but unfortunately that's the way it is.

I feel if a tire manufacturer gives a warranty of 70K and the tire fails before that mileage is reached with signs of normal wear and tear - they should prorate to the mileage used. So Josh got 40K - they should prorate the set of (4) accordantly. Bottom-line - the tires failed prior to the warranty cap. Continental Tires owes you for the remaining 30K miles. Period! We the consumer are loosing our butts when manufacturers don't make good on their stated warranties. My opinion... I AGREE and STAND with Josh! Wooooo!

The credit I was offered was off the full retail price of tires and at the time Firestone was deeply discounting the tires as they had quit making the model of tires I had and I could buy for less than what the prorated price was. I tried and failed to get Firestone to discount off the sale price to no avail. That was last Firestone tire on my farm over 50 years ago. I walked away from 2 new tractors and 1 truck that came in with Firestone tires on them and I had advised all 3 dealers that any Firestone products were unacceptable.

My wife's 2012 Highlander has just over 52,000 miles. Even though the original Toyo tires looked great, they were 11 years old. They had tons of tread left but I got a little paranoid they would blow out on the interstate. At our old age, we have no desire to replace the car unless it gets in a wreck of something. I replaced not only the four tires but the spare also. I bought Michelin as I have always had good use. I figured a new tire could still blow out and I would have to put a one spare on and it blow out two more miles down the road. I told some friends about purchasing 5 instead of 4. They thought I was crazy. At the same time I had the pressure sensors replaced on 5 tires. Total cost, just under $2,200. My 2018 Tundra has a new set of first time owner Cooper tires. They ride really well. We will see how they hold up. So Josh, I am not sure what to say here. It does seem no matter the tread left on the tire, it is coming apart. Not good as all. Hope you get what you want from Conte.

Ended up switching over to Toyos like I have on my other vehicles and have had very good results from them. Those tires must be poorly made if that little Honda is breaking down the belts. Those cars don’t weigh that much compared to what most people drive. I wouldn’t pay 50% of the cost of 4 tires that I know are garbage and will fail just like the previous ones. You have already waisted a lot of your time on these. I think they should credit you at minimum the cost of a new set of a different brand since you didn’t get your money’s worth out of these. If a product fails before it’s expected life span due to poor build quality it should be 100% free replacement in my opinion. People are too comfortable with getting ripped off these days.

Josh Unfortunately, in the tire game, I use that word "game" for a reason. They're betting that the tire or tires either wear out or you have a road hazard. They could care less about you or the tires. Find another tire manufacturer or take their offer. Personally, i would tell them to go pound sand. The only warranty you have is a 5/ 50. Warranty. 5 minutes or 50 feet out of the parking lot. My tires on my truck cost 450.00 each. Imagine how I felt when I hit a piece of angel iron that fell off a log truck to find out the tires on my truck had been discontinued with only 10,000 miles on them. I agree with you but I work for a massive corporation and I can tell you how these people view cases like this. It’s a numbers game for them, they would rather let you fall off their bandwagon and move on without you, than to make it right and try to figure out whether you are an honest loyal buyer or not. They are so massive that hundreds of customers can walk away without them ever noticing on their earnings reports. New customers will replace you. Goodyear pulled this with me on a set of MTRs one time that wouldn’t balance and I will never buy Goodyear again. This is an easy call. Go with Nitto, Toyo, or another premium brand and never look back. Great vid tho, Continental would have been money ahead if they just sent you a new set. Bad press hurts.

I’ve had plenty of trailer tires brake belts with hardly any miles but had some age and never once thought to email the company and ask for a discount. Could you imagine if everyone acted like this what a world we’d live in. They don’t know your driving habits, I mean it seems like your traveling on dirt roads a lot where you live, would you consider that normal driving compared to rest of the customers running those tires? If you were driving at 60 MPH and it blew apart, you could get into an accident and possibly get injured. continental is wrong and should pay to replace all tires. Years ago, I had a set of Kelly tires on my car, and they actually wore out way before the warranty was up/ Kelly replaced all tires free of charge. I had about half the tread life left. Kudos to Kelly for that.

Back when Firestone Steeltex was having problems with their tires. I had put new tires on my Ford Excursion even upgrading to 10 ply. Had less than 3000 miles a friend of mine took it to Ohio from Florida. Got half way there and the left front tire started throwing rubber of it. She put spare on. Coming back 9:07 from Ohio on I75 she blew out the left rear. The whole sidewall blew out nothing left but the bead and the tread. Everything else was gone. Went to Firestoneand after some discussion with managers they replaced all 4 tires and it cost me $50. Then went to the Ford dealer where they had a new set of take off rims and tires from a King Ranch. BFGoodrich Rugged Trail. Smoother ride and better in the rain. I put Coopers on my Grand Marquis. Love them. Also Mastercraft. Cooper makes them too.

If I bought a 6 inch subway sandwich and got halfway through it and there was no meat on one side.....would I want them to replace it or give me a 3 inch sub? $5 or $500 stand by your product if it's improperly built ....if it were a tractor tire would mileage matter? Then why would it matter here? That's my way of thinking I guess....if I bought a roll of net fence wire and half of them rusted and the other half didn't....does that mean I only get credit for the wires that didn't rust? Wear has no bearing unless the warranty claim is for wear in my opinion. Make it right...stand by the product!

What I hadn't noticed at the time was that it had damaged my fender behind the wheel. When I noticed it a couple weeks later, Walmart wouldn't cover that because it wasn't noticed the day the tread let go. Hi Josh you are asking the manufacturer of the tyres to replace them. I think for what its worth the seller that sold the tyres to you should be liable to replace the tyres as they are not fit for purpose. If there is a manufacturing problem then the dealer that is selling you the tyres should be fighting the manufacturer for you. This way you are not wasting your time chasing the tyres thats the sellers job. If the seller doesnt look after you or acknowledge the fault or problem with the tyres then you can look at other avenues of recourse to fix the problem. You may have dealt with continental tyre company in the past thats fine and good but in this case you should take your complaint to the store that you bought the tyres from and if the tyres have a manufacturing fault they should either replace the tyres or give you a full refund allow the seller to deal with continental tyre company as they have purchased the tyres that went on your car.

All of the tire manufacturers have recalls, some more than others. That is the reality, dangerous as it may be. I have used Continental for years and have had no issues … yet. But take Goodyear as an example. If they had to replace all 170,000 tires they recalled for just one model, they may well be out of business. Maybe that would be satisfying to the affected customers, but it would have other negative repercussions. Sometimes you just have to pull up your britches and take the good with bad of our technology expectations.

They would no longer charge. After a polite email exchange stating that I would not be replacing them with Reolink is this is the longevity I can expect, they replaced 2 cameras with new, the only stipulation is the new have no warranty. The new ones appear to have fixed the issues that led to the failure of the previous. Sad that you have to push to get them to do the right thing.....but at least they got there eventually.

  • @fixtherustbucket

Tread wear and a manufacturing defect inside the tire are two different issues…… If you want to know how I know this…..I’ll tell you at the end. Now to the issue at hand….. Some people, including @continentaltire, are getting stuck on the tread wear percent left on the tires. I did not hear a complaint or issue with tread wear. The complaint brought forward is a manufacturing defect of the tire(s) when they were made. I am sure there are more tires of this style we are not aware of do to customers being told to go pound sand. This is a “Bad Batch” of tires that someone does not want to admit or fix. If a tire manufacture is offering a XX thousand mile tire, then their tires should be lasting close to, or at that mileage life defect free. This is NOT a discussion about tread depth/wear. Its about an inner part of the tire failing and not meeting the manufacturers guaranteed XX thousand mile life…. Prorating a defected product is not correct. When a product is an inferior product direct from the manufacturing processes. That product should be 100 percent replaced at zero cost to the consumer. No matter what the product is. Continental Tire is in the wrong with this issue! and....here is how I know. This was about 15 years ago. I purchased four Good Year tires for my truck. In one month, the truck tires had the same issue like the tires in this video. Went back to Good Year, they test drove my truck and checked balance. They were looking for a bent wheel. No bent wheel, bad set of tires. At no cost to me, they put four more new tires on my truck. Another five or six weeks went by, same problem came back. Took the truck back, they checked them again and it was the same issue with the new set of tires. Once again, I patiently waited as they put the third set of tires on the truck. Yup, you guessed it, the tires failed again. At this point the Good Year Tire shop called Good Year. Good Year said that it was probably a bad batch that came from the plant and they pulled all that style tire from this shop. Then the Good Year distributor sent the shop four new tires from a new batch the very next day. That afternoon I had my forth set of tires on the truck and they were good. The set of four tires cost me somewhere around $800-$900 installed. The tire shop in the end, broke down 5 sets of tires and mount/balanced 4 sets on my truck. @goodyear did the right thing and made it right for me. No questions asked, just fixed it. I thank Good Year for that! Fix the Rust Bucket. 🚜-Woooo!!

But they look at as if you've gotten a certain percentage of life out of it before it failed, parts stores do this on batteries, and other stuff also. Their warranty TOS spells this out what they cover. "The tire (except TS tire) may still be eligible for a pro rata replacement up to 72 months from date of original purchase until the tread is worn down to the tread wear indicators (2/32nd of an inch or 1.6 mm of tread remaining). If an eligible tire becomes unserviceable under the stipulations of this Limited Warranty and Adjustment policy it will be replaced with a **comparable new Continental brand tire, charging the owner a pro-rated amount. Owner pays all applicable taxes (including F.E.T.), mounting and balancing charges. The replacement tire price will be determined by multiplying the percentage of the useable tread worn by the Dealers Selling Price (excluding all applicable taxes) at the time of the adjustment. The useable tread is the original tread down to the tread wear indicators (2/32nd of an inch or 1.6 mm of tread remaining.) "

Replaced all 4 with Goodyears, though i have had issues with Goodyear in the past too, they are not perfect.. For whatever reason i cannot find Michelin tires in my German car so i have to keep buying Goodyears, this car gets driven tens of thousands of miles a year. The worst offender have been Cooper Discoverer offroad tires for my truck, the sidewall inflated and ballooned on one side like crazy, it was about to explode. I thought it was a fluke, bought another one. My mistake, because another tire on the other side DID THE SAME THING. Ended up returning the one extra i did buy and just took a loss on it. I said screw it, bought 4 Michelins for like $1800, was not cheap. But never looking back on any other brand if i have the option.

Oh by the way in case you all didn't know it the new trick is if your tires are more than 10 years old places like Discount Tire will not patch the tires .... so heads up when you buy the tires look at the date codes on them and make sure that they are very recent tires not a couple of years old so they can cut you out later on....
