Yes! We moved in our house in December, and moved over a ton of things from our old home (so I wasn’t starting from scratch at all, had a good base to start from) and we are STILL just figuring out certain spaces and have other spaces still not done yet. I’m learning that things take time and it probably will look better that way, too. It’s the journey and process of “perfecting” our spaces and as much as I really want it all to be done at once, it truly does take time.
So, it’s worth mentioning to people: bring ur phone and do a price check on items online before you get all excited at your “great find.” I was in one of these places and found some Riedel glasses, thought they were an amazing deal, but quickly looked up their price on my phone- they were MORE EXPENSIVE at the “discount retailer!!!!!!!’ Don’t just think that because the “compare at $____” tag says a certain price, that it’s true. Its very often just a total lie.
It's the Home Goods giving Nick a full-blown existential crisis for me. 🤣

I'm not much of a HomeGoods shopper, I'd rather thrift and find vintage. That said, I understand the lure of walking into a store and walking out with a complete decorating scheme. We need the patience to decorate our spaces slowly, and as we heed your gentle advice to get rid of all our distressed word art, fill those spaces with authentic finds, we have to remember patience is the key.

Over the years I have have found some awesome stuff at Home goods. As I walk thru the store and I see something I like I put it in my basket. @sandrakicklighter2735

There are people that love the neutrals and go into ecstasy over 12 shades of beige. Not me. But as Nick says you do you. You can do the same principles such as best quality material you can afford, shopped second hand whenever possible, and still embrace jewel tones, and saturated color. Just build slowly so you can stop and live with it for a bit before adding more. Also, remember things like the color wheel to get a sense of colors that work well together and keep in mind the point of the room. Do you want to get energized for the start of the day? Do you want to relax and be in a soothing place? See how different colors affect you. I am all about greens/blues/even purples they just make me happy. Yellow makes me want to cry. Other people LOVE yellow. There is no right answer it is truly all about how it makes you feel.

I have to agree. I get bored to tears with people that are so mainstream and afraid of color and bold choices. Their spaces are rather put together but devoid of real personality and unique touches. Hi Nick, I gave a colleague a lift to a conference. She was running late and invited me into her home. The entire home, at least the first floor where I visited, was completely filled with Disney decor. Her family room had cathedral ceilings. The walls were clad, floor to ceiling, with framed Disney art. The living room was filled with free standing curio cabinets ONLY that were stuffed with THOUSANDS of porcelain Disney characters. The dropped cupboards in the kitchen…you guessed it…topped with hundreds of Disney characters. The refrigerator was covered in Disney magnets. The curtains above the sink…Disney print! That is just the tip of the iceberg in this 3000+ square foot home. Truth be told, I felt startled by the experience as if I was let inside the lair of a deranged movie character.

My husband was gifted some really nice wood pieces from a friend we were not sure what to do with. I love cutting boards so we decided to create one together. I think the wood is mahogany and maple. It is HUGE! (and heavy) but it's my favorite to bring out when I am cooking. Also, since my husband and I made it together it has a lot more meaning than anything I could buy in a store.
Idk if it’s just me or not but recently I’ve started to like things that are a bit colorful, in my home I’m surrounded by neutral colors (Beige, grey and white..etc) so I started to feel a bit suffocated like I want those popping blue or yellow bed sheets and since my kitchen is also bland I want to have more colorful cooking utensils

I always wait for the "Nick-ism" in your videos. "What in the Kelly Clarkson collection is going on!" Ya kill me Nick, but I agree with all of your picks. Keep up the great work!!
I almost purchased the rainbow colored wooden spoons yesterday but decided to think more about it. Thank you for bringing me back to my senses. I wish I had my own personal Nick to shop with me who could occasionally slap me when I stray from the path of class.
I should have waited till the end to comment, Nick describing the Chinese worker thinking to himself what is wrong with those north americans...chef kiss! Perfection.
Another problem with rhinestones...the cheap metal setting oxides very quickly so instead of a sparkly silvertone finish, the metal very soon looks like aged basement plumbing. Then too, the prongs on the setting are often loose and you'll soon be missing a rhinestone or two (or more).
As I age I find I prefer sleek lines that don't catch dust, dirt, dog hair etc.
My biggest homesense regret is a purchase I didn't make: a large white ceramic bowl in the style of vintage ironstone. It was kind of thick and unadorned with a classic, rolled rim shape. It was unapologetically farmhouse in a good way, very humble and beautiful. I should never have left it on the shelf and although I look for it all the time, ive never seen it again. P.S. and I live on a farm so don't come for me.
I do shop at Home Goods once in a while, but I keep my eye out for the timeless items. Nick, I truly enjoy your videos and look forward to watching them. You make me laugh, and who doesn’t need to laugh when there is some good humor going on!

I believe the white leather and grey chairs are meant for nail salons. They work fine there
Thank you Nick for consistently looking at value without compromising taste. Navigating the minefields at HG and Ikea is tricky. Thank you also for keeping in the 'also taking attention away from taste' line - whether planned or improvised that was brilliant. Love your channel.
The storage items for closets or under sinks/in bathrooms are also really good. And food storage containers - the ones that snap closed in glass are just so much more reasonable. Not exactly “decor” but probably what I buy at HomeGoods the most
I am still perplexed by your dislike of home sense/goods. It makes me laugh. I think they have some really great finds. Plus, if you live in a smaller town with no major stores, it is a great option.
This is my favorite type of content! I want more! And don't be afraid to upset some people with your opinions. I love the snark
I hate the faux distressed thing. Love that people are ok with second hand/old items because we don’t need everything to be brand new, but faux distressed defeats the point
This was so much fun, thank you. Also thanks for mentioning the poor factory worker and also supporting artists.
I personally really like Homesense, aka TJMaxx, aka Marshalls. Of course not everything, or even most things there are going to be wins. However, the point of those stores isn't to be a currated collection like other places like west elm, crate and barrel, pottery barn or whatever, they literally market themselves as a treasure hunt, as in you know you have to hunt and dig around to find great stuff for really, really good prices sometimes. This, as well as for some of the basics that you mentioned in this video, is why I like Homesense/HomeGoods. Maybe if I was rich I wouldn't care to put the effort to hunt for the more affordable finds at these stores, cause I would be able to shop in the expensive curated stores that you can.

That's the thing I think some people don't get. I'm not trying be mean but I'm just as brutally honest as Nick and I can tell Nick has never been in a financial place where he had no other choice but to pick stores like Homesense. For those of us that are not as fortunate, stores like Homesense offers us the opportunity to fill out homes with home decor that's affordable. The videos come off as a little snobbish to me if I'm being honest.

I agree. I like Homesense and I also live in a smaller town in Ontario. It’s accessible, budget friendly and you can find some high quality gems. I can’t afford or justify William Sonoma, Crate and Barrel or West Elm when o can get dupes at Homesense or thrift things.

@@stacey8346 Exactly! With the rise of social media influencers and those said influencers living sometimes fake and pretentious lives all online for others to oooh and awww over, people are more caught up on the prices of things than ever. Everyone wants luxury this or luxury that. That's fine if you can afford it. However, not everyone can or want to spend that type of money on things when you can find things just as nice at more budget-friendly places.
Okay - 100% agree about the frappuccino candle. However, I would have LOVED that as a 15 year old 😅
Nice save Nick "you're worth more than that!" They remind me of a Dollar Tree craft...😊
Literally walking into a HomeGoods at this moment. Can’t wait to buy so much stuff I didn’t know I needed 🥳
Agree with on all of the above! Right up there with the signs, for me, are any Rae Dunn items.
so close but then the WORDS has the same energy as shopping at forever 21 😂
You navigated through the rocky shoals of "corporate pride" like a wise seasoned skipper. Perfect.
“ I wouldn’t ever “. Best line ♥️
Always enjoy your take on things. Thank you for all the laughs!
Ha, I literally just got some glass containers for my pantry at HomeGoods, and I admit I thought about you while I was there. Mostly that I was breaking your rule of not shopping there, but I’m not paying more for glass containers to hold oatmeal 😂

@@sandrakicklighter2735 lol it’s all in good fun, I love Nick’s channel and enjoy poking a little fun at him where and when I can 😊 I’d never not buy something I need or want because of someone on KZread’s opinion, and I adore how Nick can find the worthwhile in a store he openly loathes.
I watched this video JUST so we could get to the “Disney Adults”…and you didn’t disappoint. Thank you.
I think you are incredible. Honest, humorous, articulate and correct on every issue. Enjoy your videos so much!!
Years ago I bought Dunoon mugs there for $9 , original price $28. Scottish porcelain. Love them, they’re light , thin walls.
If you have problems with your hands and wrists the Oxo Good Grips is excellent. I have replaced all of my kitchen gadgets with the Oxo type because their stuff actually does work better with arthritic hands.
Love your videos, energy, advised keep it up. I love that your videos get right to the point.
OMG *please* do a whole episode about Disney adults!! I would watch that repeatedly!
I agree with the 'words stuff. I don't like it at all. You have to keep in mind, Nick, everyone doesn't have deep pockets to spend $250 for a vase. Homegoods have affordable dupes.

@susanhaney3437 I actually looked at the one he featured and with the stitching of the basket, it couldn't be removed without compromising the stitching of the basket itself. It was sewn on as the basket was being made.

As a weird Disney adult, I thank you for passing on the Disney items so I can buy them ;) I do keep my Disney stuff all in one room (mostly) and watch your channel to figure out how to be an adult in the rest of my house 😂😂

A good friend of mine who is also my co-worker loves all things Disney. I immediately thought of Emy when he started about the Disney stuff. She goes to Disney at least once a month, sometimes more. She's actually at Disney this weekend! :). I on the other hand love The Peanuts. My office at work is full of Peanuts merch. I don't have it at home because it doesn't fit my home decor. However, I just wanted to say enjoy Disney and keep doing what makes you happy. You and my friend would get along great!

@@ambergerhelper7852 Yeah I watch Arvin Orlano and he has a more approachable manner and less snobbish tone. I've subscribed and resubscribed to this channel but I've finally realized today that his personality just don't agree with me. I like more down-to-earth people and he just doesn't seem that way at all. I'm not trying to be mean or knock his brand because obviously he has a following that loves it. I just happen to not be one of those people.

I am an interior designer. Trends come and go and they are impossible to keep up with. I question my clients about what they like and proceed from there. Their opinions should be taken into consideration. I actually found a very nice piece of cased Crystal at HomeGoods. I paid $300 for it but it was worth hundreds more. I admit maybe just extremely unusual to find such a piece but I guess it was my lucky day. I would not talk down to a client. Their opinions are important.
I find you to be a breath of fresh air! My god thank you. You say it as you see it. I have to agree with you on every item . Thank you for making my morning coffee and your show a perfect combination that would work in any room. I had to subscribe!
I love watching you! Thanks for all the great tips!! ❤

I never had until I moved to one nearby when moving. It's like Nick describes. There's so much cheap, throwaway, common, tasteless mess in that place that just screams " I was made in China" from ten feet away. 😂 I did find one thing, a Kelly Wearstler coffee table type book for around $20 that was nice, and a good buy. If one is near you, it is definitely fun to go with a friend to have a good giggle at all the (98% awful) stuff there, that is IF you can stand being around a bazillion people with long checkout lines with carts full of glitter and fake canvas word art. 😂

@@karenhollywood3523 In the 2000s I used to receive unsolicited catalogs (because I subscribed to Pottery Barn?) full of this kind of crap. Different styles back then but the same level of taste. Some of it was embarrassing.

I have a friend that lives for a bargain. When you do a store with her you find things the staff didn't know was there. As a result she comes up with the most amazing things at the best prices. One caveat though is trying to complete her looks. By the time she's managed to put everything together she's spent a fortune in time and gas searching for the items. Great if you're doing that for fun but not if you legit want to save money.

People were returning thrifted items to Home Goods…because of this fact. So many different things that who knows if that pillow, vase or lamp isn’t the same one with that tag attached.
I learned it’s important to curate purchases at any store.
The only bad thing about candles is that you can never get the same candle again! We fell in love with a candle scent, went to see if we could find it online and couldn't find it now we never want to burn it now !The OXO Brand is fantastic ! We've had our products from OXO : can opener, wood spoons and garlic press for 12 years!

Just here to agree with the recommendation of Lodge - I have a few Lodge cast iron pieces (dutch ovens primarily) and they are WORKHORSES. Really, really impressed with the quality at that price point. I have baked bread in my Lodge dutch oven, I've made hours-long ragu in it (in the oven).....and it's still going strong and has a lovely patina on the interior. Such a good value.
