Nice idea to flatten them with a cup. It saves some time needed to be invested in rolling, freezing and afterwards cutting the slices. I’m dreaming of matcha butter cakes: do you think that using exactly this recipe with the extra step of mixing some matcha powder would lead to an acceptable result?

That is a great idea, and they will look nice green. They would for sure work, I would add the matcha powder with the butter, and rest the same amount from the flour. I never worked with matcha, it might be that you have to dissolve it first, for more flavor. If that is the case, you can maybe dissolve it with some spoons of hot milk, and just leave the yogurt out. Experiment. It is a very forgiving dough, and since you shape the balls with your hands, it is really easy to form the cookies.
