Butlin's Skegness Experience - watch THIS before you visit // Butlin's Episode 1

I'm too poor to take the kids on foreign holidays. So, instead, we decided to vacation in England. Our nearest holiday resort is Butlin's in Skegness so we booked five days in some of their cheapest accommodation - Silver rather than Gold - and set off on a seaside adventure. ** NOTE ** We stayed in Silver ROOMS (not Silver apartments).

    Been going here since I was a baby, It's always a fun few days out with my family but being 18 it doesn't quite have the same special feeling as it used to. And a lot of the attractions I used to enjoy as a kid are now gone, it leaves me with a kind of empty feeling. Obviously I wouldn't be riding all the baby rides or singing a long with the singing along with barney the dinosaur now, but it's sad that all I have left are the memories. I think in recent years the queues have also gotten significantly worse. Last time I was there in August last year there was literally no place to eat. Every single restaurant had no spaces, you had to book days in advance and when there were a few walk-in tables they went very quickly, we ended up eating only burger king and fish and chips. Also up until a few years ago you could just walk into splash water world whenever you wanted, The first time I ever had to queue was a few years ago and once we got in it was absolutely packed. Anyway this video was very fun to watch and well presented, hope you had a great time!

    Thanks a lot for the insight and sharing your experiences. I've only been twice so you know much more about how the place has changed over the years. I definitely understand that it's a lot less interesting for adults than younger kids - and for adults Fantasy Island / Pleasure Beach have a lot more going for them. I definitely appreciate what you're saying about the queues. Everyone who has experienced it in the past now says the queues for everything are far too long. Perhaps that's to do with not having enough staff. Or maybe it's because they've kept adding accommodation, but the capacity at the attractions hasn't been increased at the same time. They do plan to expand their entertainments and experiences next year. Maybe that will help. But we'll see. I'm planning to return in 2023. 🙂

    Great Video, loved the short cut intro and the use of graphics. good film maker. We have been visiting Butlins for the past few days. We had words with the chef in terms of Vegan / Vegitarian options. They served a few meals each day and also had options out back. They even introduced oat milk for us a few visits ago as our baby is allergic to dairy and they cooked some things dairy free just for him, so accommodating.

    Thanks Jamie. I'm glad you liked it. I was really happy to see Butlin's were enthusiastic about supporting plant-based and dairy-free alternatives and, despite a couple of missteps we experienced, they do go the extra mile to provide vegan, vegetarian and free-from options. It's one of the reason I'm willing to keep choosing Butlin's instead of the alternatives available to us. I'm happy to hear they were able to cater to your baby's requirements. 🙂

    Thanks David. Your experience of Butlins far exceeds my own. I think leap of faith and high ropes definitely look like they're worth doing, and next time I'm there I'll be sure to try them out. I've not tried the caravan side yet, as I'm happy with the quality and price of the silver rooms. And yes it's great to have Fantasy Island so close. And we easily drove to pleasure beach in less than 15 mins. Really looking forward to going again.

    Went there for a weekend break some years ago. The chalet was none too clean and the bed was lumpy. Waiting to check in there were people who had prams loaded up with booze. We didn't have a good feeling about it from the get go - then having to share a table in the dining room with a group of 6 schoolteachers we had never met before finished it off. Haven't been back.

    Sorry to hear you had such a poor experience. Ours was completely different. Most of our fellow visitors were really nice, considerate people. OK, a few were a little rough around the edges, but nice people still. We never had to share our dining space with others at any point. Seems like there was always plenty of seating and we managed to find a table for ourselves, even during the busiest times. I've heard that the last few months of 2022 haven't been as nice for visitors because of staff shortages. Hopefully, that will be sorted for 2023 when we plan to go back and visit again. 🙂

  • @JayShareef

    @JayShareef

    2 жыл бұрын

    I think the situation with the queues at the pool are partly down to covid, but mostly due to staff shortages. If they have less staff, by law they have to have less people in the pool. I also think there is a lot of rush due to people buying Butlin's day tickets. Those people are not staying on the resort itself. They have just bought a day pass to use the facilities and that means bigger queues. 🙁

    Halal options are non-existent now. They used to serve Halal chicken a few years back, but the staff told me that's no longer the case in any of their restaurants. However, every restaurant will have vegan options (except maybe the Steakhouse / Firehouse) so you will always have something to enjoy. Alternatively, if you've got an apartment with a kitchen then you can make your own food. Be sure to take your own baking trays and some foil though. I don't think they'll care much about how people are dressed. There's nothing in their terms and conditions about it. I did see women wearing Hijabs on the resort quite often. I'm sure Burkinis would be fine in the people. Probably not an issue walking around in one either.
