Buster Beagle 3D MK3 Injection Molding Machine in Action | Custom Upgrades | Semi-Automatic

Ғылым және технология

This is just a quick sneak peak of the Buster Beagle 3D Injection Molding Machine in action. It has some custom upgrades on it that make the machine semi-automatic but the core of the MK3 machine is the same. I will go over some of the upgrades I made in a future video. You can also see how I cut a high detail aluminum mold with a fiber laser. Hope you enjoy and stay tuned to more to come.

    That laser cutting the aluminum. HOLY MOLY! You can do a simple mold cut with Fiber Lasers!?!?! The deeper cuts were CNC'ed???????

  • @BusterBeagle3D

    Yes the main molds were CNC'ed. But the coins were engraved in with a Fiber. Not sure I could ever have gotten that detail with my hobby CNC.

    @@BusterBeagle3D Do you think a Fiber Laser could do the same trick, maybe even deeper. To a solid block of 3D Printed Resin for molding? Sounds counter productive, but I think a galvo laser can still get higher quality than a LCD screen.

    I know you can use fibers on plastic so you might be able to do it. At that point though I would assume you would be better off doing it in metal since you’re already going through the trouble of using the fiber laser and you can get raw aluminum bar for not that much more money.

    Any limitations to how deep you can etch? Could we go say 10mm deep? Maybe if done slow enough to let the stock cool down. Could you try a test to see how deep we can make the molds please? This would be just awesome if it works

  • @Xenomorphin1

    What's the maximum depth for a mold the laser can go to you think? I wonder if it's usable for thick parts, instead of a coin shape like you have here

  • @BusterBeagle3D

    @BusterBeagle3D

    You can move the head down an keep cutting deeper so as long as you plan correctly you can probably go pretty deep. Again this doesn't replace a CNC but you can get pretty good details with it.

    A few questions about the laser: is it 8h per side, so 16h alltogether? Are you shure your laser can cope so long work repetedly? I would be scared to ruin it for just a mold (3000€). Appart that, the result is just amazing!

  • @BusterBeagle3D

    @BusterBeagle3D

    This was 8 hours per mold half. The laser should be able to work that long as it has a work life of around 100,000 hours. I'm also only running it at 75% so that probably helps as well. Also all of the heat is far away from the lens so there is not really any chance of the laser burning the lens unless you don't have a good venting system which I do. I haven't heard of fiber lasers dying because they ran too long but I suppose it's possible.

  • @BusterBeagle3D

    You would have to run some tests on the material and see how many passes equal what depth. It was not something I really focused on but if you were going to attempt to reach specific depths it’s something you would really need to test out. 10mm might also be pretty deep. The issue is that the focal distance of the laser is in a certain range. So perhaps you would need to run it about 2mm with the laser at a certain height and then lower the laser head 2mm and do the next 2mm deep. That might not be the exact range you need to work with but something along those lines.
