Classy and sharp-witted, aristocratic amateur sleuth Lord Peter Bredon Wimsey was born in 1890 and educated at Eton and Oxford, before serving in the military during the First World War.
Ian Carmichael appeared as Lord Peter Wimsey for BBC Radio from 1973 to 1983, in addition to the BBC TV adaptations that were broadcast between 1972 and 1975.
First published in 1937 and adapted in six episodes by Alistair Beaton.

As the debts of murder victim William Noakes start mounting up, the upper crust sleuth grows suspicious of one of his relatives.
6. A Chain of Circumstance
With no clear murder suspect, the arrival of the removal men helps the upper crust sleuth to spot a vital clue.

Carmichael's accent is awful in this. He keeps sliding into a wishy-washy mockney ebonics (there are individuals who've a much more nuanced and skillful grasp of this way of talking, sadly in this production, he's not one of them). Tis' a shame, because his delivery and interpretations are outstanding on the Agatha Christie audiobooks. He's an absolute master of different voices regardless of gender.

That's how the Bright Young Things of the 20s and 30s spoke..Very Wodehousian;perfect for the character of Lord Peter Whimsy as described in the book.

@keymeter1917 you do realize this is a radio play, correct? Ian Carmichael is Lord Peter and that's it. The other voices belong to the actors portraying the parts.

Ian Carmichael sounds exactly as his Lord Peter Wimsey persona in the recorded dramatizations. Very familiar to my ears!
