businesses are LEAVING SF and is not theft…

Ойын-сауық

The L Taraval Improvement project is to improve and upgrade the vital system that will support the community to thrive. But It’s doing the complete opposite. It’s failing its community a lot of stores and a lot of small businesses on both sides of the street are closing due to the lack of traffic and parking the project is taken for the last five years.
Construction for the L Taraval Improvement Project started in 2019 and was meant to be completed in the summer of 2021. But now is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024.
Leave your comments and opinions about the current situation on the San Francisco small businesses closing

I live in Tokyo and the apartment complex I'm living in is being renovated. One thing that impresses me is how the construction company and crew go out of their way to make sure the residents are not inconvenienced. They were installing tiles in the entrance and made sure to due one side only in order to keep it accessible to people coming in and out of the complex to the elevators. Then once they finish one side, they just open that up to traffic and work on the other side. Whenever workers are doing work on a floor they make sure to step out of the way and pause if a resident is walking by. This is the standard of service for any major construction project in Japan and making sure the locals are not inconvenienced is one of the highest priorities. This mess on Taraval and Noriega St in SF on the other hand just shows how backwards, and generally neglectful the City of SF is towards its residents. This is disgusting. No wonder people are getting out of that city. I'd be furious if I were any of the business owners on those streets and I'm sure they are. I remember the Sunset District being one of the nicer parts of SF but even this area is being flushed down the gutter. This city is just rotten to the core and I'm glad I washed my hands of it decades ago.

Tokyo sucks 😂😂 too small apartments and accommodation and paper-thin walls and too expensive. I know cause I go between Japan and the Philippines as a american. I prefer my big, soundproof condo in Manila with a balcony and pool and gym for 800+ per month. You will get more space in the usa than in japan. Don't make it Seem like tokyo is better 😂 I've lived there a apartment with size will be atleast 1500-2000$or more per month and still wouldn't compare to other countries.

As you can see in the media, Toyota, Nissan, and others have indulged in some shady practices. Most of the things about construction not inconveniencing residents are just cosmetic. Companies here do everything they can to get more money. You only need to look at their politics. Does anyone in America know about the ruling party's current scandal? I doubt it.

I'm happier every day that we moved to Texas 4 years ago. I loved living in the Bay Area from 1975 until about 2010, and then I started getting worried about the changes. Before 1990 we used to go up to SF regularly - it was a lovely city, and so much fun - and then it started to spiral down (there were used needles all over GG Park, so it wasn't safe to sit on the grass, and lots of it smelled like urine), and so we gradually stopped going. But its current state is beyond belief, and somehow it just keeps getting worse.

We owned a business on Ocean ave for over 50 years and lost over one half of the business revenue during the nine years that Muni replaced their tracks. Many small businesses simply closed down and never re opened. The solution is to farm out the project to the profit motivated private sector and allow them to work three shifts 24/7 and get the project done in one third of the time.

This just blows my mind. Back in the 1970s I moved to Boise, Idaho. And there they had already started a pattern of doing a major street construction project every year. They would essentially close one of the largest streets for an entire year, and then redo everything including going down and replacing the sewage and water pipes, to when they were done completely repaving it. And they would do this to several miles at once, and be done in 6-9 months. They had just started doing that when I moved there, and the first several times they did that they would be removing 4-7 or more layers of paving, some of which even still had the old turn of the century trolley tracks in it. But they would do 2-3 miles in one year, and it would not have to be touched for many years after that as all the services below the street had been upgraded or replaced at the same time. But typical of Baghdad by the Bay, they can't do anything in a reasonable amount of time.

The project was only completed last year. Minimum of six years to complete it. The change orders are the real scam and likely where a huge amount of money is being transferred back into the pockets of City officials.

And sadly, the vast majority of the population there and in most of CA is manipulated into continuing to elect the same self-serving grifters to run it. It’s a deep cyclical socio-political problem and I don’t think its going to come back for several decades at this point. It’s broken. The SF we once knew is permanently gone. If it rises from the ashes in some distant future, it will be a different place entirely and will perhaps even grow into something great again as the climate and geography favor it. RIPSF

In the 2000s the the Wenkee Wonton (40 seconds in) was a sandwich shop. It was a mom and pop operation. The owner was the president of the SF Classical Guitar Society. He was great player. He was a photographer by trade. He specialized in prints larger than 7' by 7'. I played there a few times and had a few friends who played there as well. That area is the feeder neighborhood to Lowell High School. At that time, one of the best High Schools in California - 7th (22nd in the US). About half the performers were students at the SF Conservatory of Music. Then about a 10 minute drive from there. The Conservatory has since moved downtown. We met once a month. It was convenient to get to.

My vets office is on Taraval, and it’s not only impossible to park, but walking across the street after you take a bus or a taxi (I don’t Uber) is impossible. They’ve made it extremely difficult to just exist. They want people out of cars, but they make it impossible to walk too. It took me an extra 25 minutes to get to my appointment and I was late, and I had given myself an extra 20 minutes. This city is so corrupt and I’m convinced that the supervisors are being bribed by the unions or something, because it’s constant construction. We lived on Sutter and finally had to move because the noise and vibration from constant construction was causing stress. It’s the city that hates its residents.

All that crap that is underground is being replaced...from the tracks to the sewers to the utilities. In todays economy and job situations, you wonder if they can even find workers in this type of construction.
