A very professional and unbiased appraisal of both products. It was very interesting to see the comparison between the 9 yo technology and today’s. The ease of switching to and from slope as you point out could be a cheaters dream. Bushnell need to embed this video on to their website, great work Randy 👏👍👊

Thank you. This video helps me a lot to make a decision whether to buy the pro x2 or the hybrid. I have decided to buy the hybrid instead because of the built in gps. I agree bushnell has a reputation of making great product. I own a v4 with slope edition and it’s great. It’s fast compare to the other product I own. Thanks again for the video.

Biggest reason I went with the hybrid because some of the golf courses I play can’t always see the flag to use a laser range finder, which is when I’d need the gps to figure out which club to use. I had to have a gps watch and a laser range finder, now only need one. Now if only I could hit the green let alone the pin more often then not.

Bought a Bushnell 7-8 years ago (second hand) and I haven't thought about parting with it since. It's reliable, compact and easy to use (granted I haven't checked the precise yardages it gives). I did for a while use a golf GPS (sky caddie or something like that) when a friend loaned it to me. Have to admit using it just made me like the rangefinder even more, although the rangefinder can have its draw backs like obstructed views or sometimes measuring to a hazard can be difficult. Overall though I don't think either of these new products would tempt me to upgrade as I just don't see the need if my old piece of kit works well. Great review though, very thorough!

This is such a great and through video. As an IT analyst I really appreciate you physically walking the yardage (4 times) and keeping each product honest. That takes time and effort to be that detailed. I loved the aerial views of the green as well. Really helped visually. I watched every minute and have to say this was very well done. Kudos. Now, which range finder should I buy (considering accuracy is still viable in a 9 year old device)? 🤔

Now that I could get behind! I've been debating getting one, but just like my clubs, I dont often buy brand new and like some testing and reviews to be done by trusted sources. Maybe review the high dollar rangefinders and then some budget friendly ones? In the mean time I use the Swing by Swing app for yardage.

Great video on two rangefinders from a reliable copy. I find it interesting that comments at the end about combining the two technologies. How about the Garmin Z80 Approach in theory that rangefinder does extacly what you're asking for, the only downside is the price, $599 is a hard number to take for a rangefinder.

Very thorough comparison video. I bought my wife a rangefinder, but she still wears her GPS watch, so the hybrid would be a good product for her. It's nice to know when the pin is on the very front or back how much room you have to the pin. Any indication on how long the hybrid's GPS holds a charge (e.g., 18 or 36 holes)? Great stuff - thank you.

Great review, Randy. Very helpful in guiding a future purchase. Any idea about more budget models? I suppose central point will be that the Nikon at $170, and others of this ilk won't have the pin finder? How valuable is this feature, please? Many thanks. Big fan of the blog. I got myself some i200s and backed them up with wedges with ES grinds and a 60 degree with a TS grind recently after watching your father review grinds with you. Thank you for the great video. I have a question. I use Garmin S60, which is enough for my current game. But for some good practices and for when I become=) a better player, I'm thinking of getting one range finder. Bushnell Tour 4 is enough for that purpose? PRO X2 looks great but the slope function I may not want to use. Still I'd better go for the latest version?

Great review Randy. I too had the Pro 1600, sold it last year on eBay. It was a great laser rangefinder. I currently have a Precision Pro NX7 Pro laser and I use the ARCOSS 360 app on my iPhone which gives distances to the front, middle and back of the green. I’m possibly interested in getting the Bushnell Hybrid, especially since they just dropped the price to $350 for the holiday season I use the ARCOSS 360 for club distances (I haven’t been able to measure the accuracy of the ARCOSS) and the last several rounds I haven’t even used the NX7 Pro Laser. I play off a 4.6 handicap and I have a good idea on how far I carry each of my clubs. I think the ARCOSS phone app should be good enough to get me to the middle of the green/close to the flag. Also, The ARCOSS does give distances to hazards Looking for your opinion on whether or not it makes sense to buy the Hybrid when I already have an app that is accurate enough Thanks Stephen

And on another note... As someone with essential tremors, I went with the Nikon coolshot 80i vr because of the built-in image stabilization. Bushnell's jolt does a good job for me from maybe 175 and in, but anything beyond that, I'm just too shaky and it's inconsistent. I can grab a flag with my Nikon from nearly 240-250 yards. Not everyone has the same problem as me though. Nice job.

Great review thanks for posting... with the bushnell hybrid... does it need to be kept out of the case in between shots for correct gps numbers to kick in quickly? when you put it into the case in between shots I’m assuming the gps cuts out and takes a bit of time for it it to kick back in again? I really like the idea of the hybrid but I am thinking this could be a problem and not ideal for pace of play as I use a trolley and so would put it back in at case between shots. Thanks for any advice on this

Fried Eggs Golf thanks a lot.. does putting it back in its carry case in between shots affect the how long it takes for GPS to give accurate reading. As I carry my golf bag I would put the rangefinder back in its carry case in between shots but don’t want to wait for GPS to kick in when I get to next shot if this takes some time. I am trying to decide between the hybrid or the pro v4 and buying a separate standalone small gps unit which will attach to my bag. Thanks

Even though I’m 7 months late, I wanted to add my real world experience with the Hybrid during the last month. 1. I loved having the GPS and laser in the same device, especially on a course with very firm greens. 2. Having to recharge the GPS battery after every round is a bit of a pain, but ultimately worth it. 3. My pinfinder/jolt measurement varied on the same pin with multiple readings. Maybe my technique was wrong? 4. Turns out the plastic Hybrid casing is not strong enough to withstand being accidentally run over by a golf cart. :-(. I’m serious. I probably will replace it though.

I know some public courses have the "fancy" tips on top of the flags that have mirrors in them to help with lasers. Does Riverbend have those? Bushnell's have always been top notch, and it's fine IMO that the 9 year old tech works as well as the new stuff. Makes explaining the big purchase to the wife much easier. Have to factor it over 9 years, honey. It's really inexpensive if you think about it

Randy, with the gps rangefinder does it tell you how far you've hit your last shot?

Hey quick question. Do the two range finders require flag sticks with prism laser reflector? I noticed the flagstick in your video had the reflectors. My local golf courses do not have them in their flag sticks. Thank you!

Mr. Nick Neither of these units require a prism on the flagstick. They should work just fine on any ole flag. Thanks!

Will you compare to Nikon range finders? My i40 with slope is super difficult to zap the flag. Even when sober!

Only missed one thing Randy. How does the gps affect battery life? I know my phone and watch gps eat up battery life. My Nikon laser rangefinder goes years on a battery.

The GPS works on a separate rechargeable battery... I had it out on the course for 4-1/2 hours and it still had plenty of juice left. The Laser runs on CR2 which I'm sure will last a couple of seasons. Thanks!

Did the flags have the mirror reflectors on the top?

Yes, they had them in the center of the flagstick (you can see the two dots at kzread.info/dash/bejne/l3qG29SyeqSYqaQ.htmlm2s), but I have used these at other courses with no prisms and they worked just as well. I should have mentioned that in the video. Thanks!

Philip Inness I will tell you I’ve used and tested them all as well and the pro being waterproof is nice and don’t have to worry laying it down. I will say my brothers unit was dropped on the cart path and the die cast aluminum body cracked just above the eyepiece, and it still works! The V2s come with a silicone sleeve and is much lighter but the lens is probably more prone to break or come loose if dropped vs. the pro imo. If you can handle the weight and extra cost I prefer the Pro for durability and having the lit reticle and better focusing. Take care of it and she will last a long time

The gps on the hybrid only knows middle, front, and back right? Your tests just happened to be with a pin that was very near middle? Cause if not... that is some voodoo. Also what do the front and back say if you are off to the side of the green. Not that I am every off to the side of a green. Just asking for a friend.

LOL, the flag was near the middle, but just off to one side of the green... and no, it won't reorientate front/middle/back according to your position. Thanks!
